His surgery was very extensive and recovery will take some time. FINDING OUR CALLING Esther Farnstrom, and her daughter Nan, have gone to Oregon to attend the memorial service for her brother, Willis Langford, who passed away recently. Another brother, Howard Langford, will be starting chemotherapy soon for Stage 4 cancer. This year has been all about “Taking the Next Step” in our Christian walk with the Lord. I feel we have made some great “strides” forward. Sometimes, however, it is a continuing struggle as we seek to follow Christ and find our “calling” in life. While we often think in terms of occupation and location, perhaps a more important issue is one of character—the being that undergirds the doing. “Lord, who do You want me to be?” Yuri Duran requested prayers for her marriage. In Ephesians 4:1-2, Paul wrote, “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you who walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.” He followed this with three “be’s,” as one translation renders it: be humble, be gentle, be patient, so you can bear with one another in love” (NIV). Paul wrote this from prison, a difficult place where he continued to live out his calling from God. He continued to, “fight the good fight and keep the faith.” Oswald Chambers said: “Consecration is not the giving over of the calling in life to God but the separation from all other callings and the giving over of ourselves to God. Letting His providence place us where He will—in business, or law, or science; in workshop, in politics, or in drudgery. We are to be there working according to the laws and principles of the Kingdom of God.” Sherryl Murray’s brother-in-law has been having serious health issues for several weeks including multiple surgeries. His doctors are having difficulty determining what else to do. When we are the right people before God, we can do whatever task He sends our way, wherever He puts us. In so doing, we can discover and affirm His calling for us. Remember—it’s not what you do but who you are that is most important. I love you all, Stan Gustafson, Elder Please remember the family of Chris McKebbons. He passed away last week. Betty Mathis tore a muscle in her leg and will have to be off of it as much as possible for a couple of weeks. Bill Falk’s niece, Lori, fell and broke bones in both of her arms. Renae Jefferson is having difficulty getting her blood sugar levels to stabilize. Carolyn DeFeo has been having several health issues and will be having more tests to find out the cause. Orval and Diane Welch will be travelling the next couple of weeks. Donna Nelson’s nephew, David Harris, has been deployed to Afghanistan. Marilyn House requested prayers for the Campbell family whose father has been placed in hospice care.
