But they all share one quality in common: a concern for their community that translates into positive action. At a gala celebration dinner held May 17 at Centerton Country Club, the three received the Chamber’s ––and community’s –– accolades and appreciation as the year’s Outstanding Businesses and Person of the Year. Newfield National Bank was originally chartered in 1934 as the “First National Bank in Newfield” at the corner of Salem Avenue and West Boulevard, where it remained until 1969 when it moved to its present location at 18 So. West Blvd. The same year, the Malaga branch office opened, to be followed by an additional 10 branches. The most recent was in Washington Township in November 2006. Newfield has been a business presence in Vineland for 73 years and has always been involved in supporting the community. In addition to corporate giving, many employees of the bank are active members of local civic and charitable organizations with the backing of the bank. Some of these organizations are the Police Athletic League, Boys & Girls Club, Vineland Rotary, Greater Vineland Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Vineland and Cumberland County College. Many employees are mentors in the local school system, and the bank conducts a program to teach children about savings, credit and fraud prevention. Dondero Diamonds & Fine Jewelry was established in 1948 by present owner Ken Dondero’s grandfather Charles in his home on North Delsea Drive. After Charles’ death in 1959 the store relocated to 848 Arbor Ave. but moved back to the original location on Delsea Drive in 1988 when Ken, along with co-owner Kevin Kleiner, was searching for a larger facility. Dondero’s has long been associated with local charitable projects. In its 58-year history as a Vineland business, it has always been generous in its support of projects by local schools and community and service organizations. Its philosophy is to “get involved and make a difference.” Luigi “Lou” Tramontana, successful in his two careers at Ware’s Van and Storage and Torchio Brothers, has combined his professional know-how with a dedication to volunteer projects that have enhanced the quality Tuesday, June 12 of life for the people of Vineland. He is a “Chamber Chatter” strong supporter of the Vineland Fire Luciaʼs Ristorante, Vineland Department’s campaign to help burn victims 5 to 7 p.m. and has long been involved with the Vineland YMCA as a Board member and past presiThursday, June 21 dent.
