Volume 4, Issue 3 Page 3 Main Street Committees Are you looking for a way to become more involved in Downtown New Braunfels? Are you brimming with great ideas to improve the community? Are you curious about the activities of the New Braunfels Downtown Board? If you answered yes, then please consider joining one of the four Main Street committees. Under the 4-point Main Street approach, many Downtown initiatives spring from the work of these committees. All are welcome to join—you do not need to be appointed by City Council to be on a committee and your input and participation would be greatly valued. The board has four standing committees, the design, promotion, economic restructuring, and organization committees. The design committee meets on the last Friday of every month at 7:30 a.m., typically in the New Braunfels Railroad Museum, and is tasked with planning and implementing projects to enhance the visual experience Downtown. The promotion committee works to promote Downtown as the center of commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors alike by undertaking promotional campaigns and planning community events. They meet on the third Thursday of the month at 8:30 a.m. at Granzin’s BBQ on W. San Antonio Street. The economic restructuring committee meets monthly on the second Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. at City Hall. This committee seeks to identify new market opportunities for the traditional commercial district, find new use for historic commercial buildings and stimulate investment in the area. The last of the Main Street Committees is the organization committee, which meets jointly with the promotion committee. This group seeks to develop and foster broad based support for all aspects of Downtown and creating and maintaining a community ethic that values Downtown. In addition to these four committees, the Downtown Development Board recently created the Arts and Culture Subcommittee, which was formed to apply for grant funding to create a strategic plan for the arts in the community. The board is still seeking members for this committee and meeting dates and times are to be determined. If you are interested in joining any of these committees, please contact Amy McWhorter, Downtown Development Coordinator, at 830-221-4057 or by e-mail at amcwhorter@nbtexas.org. Wassailfest 2014!
