He was expressing deep, un-filtered joy. I marveled at how free he was in that moment -- free to express the joy that was clearly in his heart, free to just "be" in the moment. As we grow older, there are so many different, and important concerns that seem to creep into every crevice, nook and cranny of our lives and more often than we would like to admit, eclipse our ability to simply and profoundly enjoy the present. Broderick) Lately, I've been reflecting more and more on what eternity with God will be like. I have always been fascinated with science and, in particular, astronomy. I have watched with awe the many advances in space exploration that have occurred in recent years and I regularly ponder the vastness of the night sky and its "billions and billions" of stars, to quote the late Dr. Carl Sagan. As our knowledge of the universe increases, so, it seems, do its mysteries. To look deeper and deeper into the cosmos is to look back in time to the moment of creation itself, and perhaps, beyond. In various passages of the Scriptures, God is referred to as the God of the living, of the present, not so much the God of the past or the future. "A thousand years in your eyes are merely a day gone by. Before a watch passes in the night, you wash them away" (Ps 90:4) Eternity with God, then, must have little or nothing to do with the passage of time as we know and experience it in the here and now, but rather it must engage a wholly different capacity of our humanness -one that carries the imprint of the divine that has been enfleshed into us and beckons us forward. I've often preached at funerals about the experience of timelessness that we encounter in fleeting ways when we are with the people we love, doing the things we love... and all is right with the world. In these moments, hours can whiz by and we eventually glance at a clock and wonder, "where did the time go?" I can't help but think this is one way that God prepares our hearts for the eternity to come, by giving us little glimpses in this life of what God has prepared for those whom He has chosen. It is about freedom and joy. In your prayers please remember all the faithful departed. The priests’ schedule is subject to change without notice. ♦ ♦ This weekend in the Gospel, Jesus invites his disciples who had just returned from a flurry of activities to take a few moments and go away by themselves to rest. Spending some time reflecting on what we are doing in the Lord's name isn't a luxury afforded only to a few, but is an essential part of discipleship, as it is only in taking time for prayer, rest and contemplation that we can truly discern a path of holiness that will lead us to the eternal present of God. St. Ann-West Newbury Nativity –Merrimac Continued on the next page 3 Immaculate Conception Parish, Newbury & Newburyport MA July 19, 2015 Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Maybe dancing around a font is a good place to start! It is my hope that all of you will be able to enjoy a bit of rest in the weeks ahead, and in those precious moments, come to a greater awareness of the presence of God's love that permeates our lives. Offertory $10067.00 Monthly $1770.00 The second collection next weekend is IC-Haiti. Please make checks payable to IC-Haiti. Fr. The Consolers Circle provides a simple luncheon to families and friends after a funeral Mass. This service is provided on a free will donation; there is no set charge. The set-up, serving, and food are provided by the teams within each circle, and people have come forward to generously support this ministry. However, we are in need of more volunteers. I would like to have five complete circles to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters who wish this service. If you feel that God is calling you to serve in this capacity, please email me snoonan@newburyportcatholic.org or fill in the sign-up form below. Drop it in the collection basket and it will be passed on to me. Thank you for all you do in the name of the Lord. The people of the parish have been more than generous in the first two collections of this year, and we are confident we will raise enough money to fund the Fr. Marc Piché Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Puit Cha Cha, Haiti, along with its vital food program, for the upcoming 2015-16 school year. So, you are encouraged to keep up your generous support, knowing that IC-Haiti is the sole financial source of funding for both the school and food program in Puit Cha Cha. We originally funded the construction and operation of the Fr. Marc Piché School in 2013. To stay the course, let us ever be encouraged by Our Lord’s challenging promise: “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers/sisters, that you do unto me.” $75,000 $59856 Heating/Cooling To date $59856 .00 The Knights of Columbus have generously agreed to match your donations dollar-fordollar up to $75,000 towards the total cost of $150,000 for the project. A gifted teacher, Father Broderick not only explains the meaning of the Scripture passages, but also presents rich description of the period and places cited, as well as the culture and practices of the people involved. He connects the events in the New Testament to Old Testament prophecies and events, as well as to our own time. This is a worthwhile way to spend an hour and fifteen minutes on a Sunday afternoon. All are invited to attend these sessions and grow in knowledge and faith! 9 PRINTING SERVICES for Small Businesses Professional Printing for Small to Medium-Sized Businesses Door Hangers Envelope Flyers/Brochures Greeting Cards Letterhead Booklets Bookmarks Business Cards Calendars CD Covers Posters Presentation Folders Stickers Table Tent Cards & much more Magnets Newsletters Notepads Plastic Cards Postcards Our Newest Feature: Large-Format Printing Banners Car Magnets Posters Booklets & Newsletters Flyers Graphic design services are available for all projects upon s Wellness Serie The Standish request. for Women Brochures What’s Inside " ! % $ ! ## + " 4 ! 5 ! 4 -./. &, 2 *& )))*&+ 2 " ! !& '( 0 &$ 2 2 ! % $ " ! ! , , +- #$% " 6) & & / . / 2 ! 0 !! ! ! 1 ! 78 2 2 ! !
