THE HEISEY HERALD THE NATIONAL CAPITAL HEISEY COLLECTORS CLUB Volume XXIX, No. 8 W ashington, D.C. May, 2001 Page 2 The HEISEY H E R A L D M AY, 2001 America’s Most Wanted! (Heisey Dealers that is) Keepers of the Gate Bob Hefflin and Chris Maskaleris In spite of the above welcoming committee, the 29th Annual All Heisey Show and Sale was a big success. If you did not attend this year’s show, shame on you, because you missed out on many rare and beautiful pieces of Heisey glass. Starting out with the rare and beautiful, how about a Zircon Cane? If you didn’t stop by Norm and Jan Thran’s booth in the first ten minutes of the show, you missed it! Heisey workers made these canes to carry in parades. In the dozen or so years I’ve been attending the Heisey show, this was the first Cane I have seen. If you didn’t need a Cane, how about a 1225 Plain Band Toy Table Set? There were 3 to choose from! Orphaned pieces were in plentiful supply, for those people looking to match up and complete cream, sugar, and table sets. Speaking of cream and sugars, there was a 7068 Four Arch set, and an 1189 Yeoman Individual Footed set in Moongleem. Both sets would occupy a place of honor in any Heisey cream and sugar collection. Unfortunately, my wallet was not big enough for either set! Do you like Crystolite? Our dealers had a couple of pieces. The Cake Salver, Basket, 13” Shell Tray, Five Compartment Shell Relish, Shell Chip and Dip, Cocktail Shaker, and Stems were all prominently displayed throughout the show. If you were looking for something rare, and missed the Cane, there was a 357 Prison Stripe Spooner, and 300 Peerless Berry Bowl, both Opalescent! After the piece was pulled from the mold, it was placed back in the fire until the top turned white. The effect is quite lovely with the piece fading from opaque white, to milky blue, to crystal. Candlesticks and Candelabras were displayed in abundance. There was a 520 Innovation Candle Lamp with a nice cutContinued on next page M AY, 2001 The HEISEY H E R A L D NOVEMBER MEETING Page 3 Message from the Prez Monday, May 14 - 7:00 P.M. Potomac Community Library 10101 Glenolden Drive Potomac, MD Well, the dust has cleared, and most of the checks have been written. As expected, the 29th Annual All Heisey Show and Sale did quite well. We will be deciding how to disperse the show profits to HCA at the May meeting, so if you have any suggestions, please let us know what they are. PROGRAM Officers, for next year, were elected at the last meeting. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss! That’s right, the club voted to retain the current officers for one more year. John Martinez - President, Knobby Ross - Vice President, Maezene Walker Secretary, and Chris Maskaleris - Treasurer. Thanks to everyone for serving another year. Fancy Loop Please bring Examples Whatzits & Finds/Fakes Continued from page 2 ting, and a pair of 126 Trophy Candlesticks in Moongleem. One of our club members purchased a pair of 134 Trident 2-light Candlesticks in Alexandrite. Also, there were two pairs of 1488 Kohinoor 2-light Candlesticks in Zircon, one pair with Bobeches and Prisms, and the other without. And don’t forget about the pair of 1469-1/2 Ridgeleigh 1light Candelabra with Experimental Blue Bobeches! If you do not care for Candlesticks, how about a Cracker Jar? There was a 1205 Fancy Loop, 1235 Chrysanthemum (Beaded Panel and Sunburst), and a 325 Pillows Cracker Jar, all of them looking for a new home. Our program for the April meeting was a Review Of and Finds From the Show. Cindy Silberblatt (The Queen of Green) had a 501 Fogg Flower Box in Moongleem. Rachel Keith added to her collection of Nimrod Carving with a 4044 New Era Cocktail. She also found a 1255 Pineapple and Fan Tumbler with good gold around the rim, and an 1295 Opal Beaded Swag Tumbler with a nice floral decoration. Sam Martinez brought in a 394 Narrow Flute Covered Cheese and Cracker. He purchased the bottom at the Salvation Army in 1994 for $4.00, and finally found the lid at our show for $8.00. One of our dealers was selling the set for $125.00! Andy Martinez had the distinction of buying the ugliest piece of Heisey at the show. It was a Sparky with painted red lips, cigarette stained teeth, a white mane, and blotches of gold and black covering it’s body. Andy says it has character. I brought in a 473 Narrow Flute with Rim Griddle Cake Set. I purchased the Syrup many years ago thinking it was an Individual Cream. After years of searching, I finally found the Plate and Cover to the set at our show. Yeah for me! The program for our May Meeting is 1205 Fancy Loop, so please bring examples. This is our last newsletter for the year, so if I don’t see you at the next meeting, have a great summer, and find lots of Heisey for our September program... “Finds of the Summer”. See ya at the next meeting, Can I interest you in a Heisey Pitcher? Just about ever dealer had Continued on next page John Martinez Page 4 The HEISEY H E R A L D M AY, 2001 15” Greek Key Tray? It was yours for the taking! Continued from page 3 a great Jug or Pitcher for sale. There was a seldom seen 427 Daisy and Leaves Pitcher, a 1280 Winged Scroll Pitcher in Emerald, and a 4165 Shaw handleless Jug in Cobalt. Is 433 Greek Key your pattern? If so, how could you do without a There were Candy Jars and Boxes in all shapes, sizes, and colors for that sweet tooth of yours. And, who can do without a Heisey Syrup to use when serving pancakes and waffles for Sunday Brunch? As you can tell from this article, our show had something for everyone. The only thing our Dealers did not bring was a Cut Block or Winged Scroll Custard Cup! Oh well, maybe next year. See ya at the 30th Annual All Heisey Show and Sale.
