It is not the goods you purchase that I am referring to, but ensuring your cyber security. This is a perfect time to change old passwords – choose one that is a combination of capital and lower case letters, at least one number and symbol – that you and ONLY you- will remember. There are numerous websites and increasingly, many financial institutions, that offer free services that will store your passwords in encrypted fashion that require you to only remember one password to access all of your others. Keep emailed receipts of on-line transactions; shred – do not just throw away- expired credit cards and those “pre-approved” cards with your name on them that you receive in the mail if you are not going to use them. Log-off shopping websites if you have a sign-in and be sure to close ATM screens before driving away to do more shopping. So, enjoy the holidays, caveat emptor and be cyber-safe! Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2016! LOUIS OPERATION SCHOOL BELL Operation School Bell (OSB) is one of six of the Assistance League's philanthropic programs. OSB outfits deserving school children in the St. Louis area with a complete school uniform: pants, shirts, underwear, toiletry items, a new book, and a fleece sweatshirt. The OSB program marks its 25th year this fall and as of November 13, 3,000 children from 26 schools have received these items. Those fittings were from fall through November 17, then continue in January for two additional dressing weeks. Since its inception, 56,750 area school children have received new school clothing. The OSB program receives funding from the Old Newsboys Day campaign. Assistance League volunteers greet the children as they arrive, then with kindness and care, patiently measure and outfit each child in new uniforms. Additional volunteers educate and entertain them with learning activities, laughter and fun, as they await their fittings. Respect and cooperation between school administrators, teachers and volunteers make the challenging work of OSB seamless. Shared dedication, hard work and tireless commitment to the children make it a success. Sales from the Assistance League resale shop, Fantastic Finds, located at 12778 Olive Blvd. in Creve Coeur (at the southwest corner of Mason and Olive) fund OSB as well as the five other Assistance League philanthropic programs. The phone number at Fantastic Finds is 314-579-9500. Assistance League of St. Louis is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization whose members identify, develop, implement, and fund ongoing community programs to serve the specific needs of children and adults in the St. Louis Candid shot of Taleah Byrne selling newspaper to Dr. Hyland community.
