Crossville FUMC Newsletter Volume 2 - Easter March/April 2014 Need to email a staff member? John Purdue: john.purdue@gmail.com Easter Power: The Power of the Resurrection! “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection” (Philippians 3:10) creation. And, it is the heart of Easter, the heart of our faith, and the heart of love. On Easter, we celebrate the risen Savior who conquered Satan, sin, and death. We celebrate new life in Him. We celebrate the hope of heaven. We celebrate the power of the resurrection. Our power for living and our power for loving flows from Christ’s power over the grave. It is played out in a thousand different ways, but the heart of it is that when we know Christ we know His power. When you know Christ, you have His power. And all that is required for us to have Christ’s holy power, which leads to eternal life and to a life of value and purpose on this To raise the dead body of our Lord from the tomb was as great a work as that of creation. It was a work of power, majesty, of love, and of new life as was earth, is to let go of this life and accept the life that Christ has for us. Jesus called this being born again. Join with us on Easter Sunday as we celebrate the victory of Christ over death and sin. ~John Purdue Eliud Martinez: eliudyjaneth2000@yahoo.com Kimberly White: kimberly@crossvillefumc.com Kelly Thurman: klgentry@gmail.com Jill Kemmer: jill@crossvillefumc.com Robin Galyon: robin@crossvillefumc.com Carol Bond: carol@crossvillefumc.com Holy Week & Easter Schedule Palm Sunday *Coat Drive: Bring a coat to donate to the Clothing Closet. Which is why on Palm Sunday this year, we invite you to help us proclaim our love for God and our love for our brother by bringing a coat to donate to our Clothing Closet. On Palm Sunday, crowds laid out their robes before Jesus as he entered into Jerusalem. This year on Palm Sunday, let’s join together as a church and offer Him coats as we enter into His house of worship. As the crowd laid out their robes for Jesus as a sign of honor, what better way for us to honor Him than by offering something of ours to be used as a blessing for those in need. did for the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me.” On April 13, 2014, let’s experience a beautiful time of worship as we offer Jesus our hearts as well as our donations of coats to be used to warm those in need. ~Kelly Thurman As Jesus said, “...Truly I tell you, whatever you Holy Week Noon Day Services for Children On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Holy week during the same time that the adults are gathered for the noon service, we invite all children to join us in the small sanctuary for a children’s version of the noon day service. We will join together for a time of singing, Scripture reading, and a fun learning activity. Parents are welcome to join their children or may attend the adult noon service in the main sanctuary. Good Friday Musical Service On Friday, April 18th, the Chancel Choir will present a musical reflection on the seven last word of Christ. This service of darkness will be at 7:00 p.m. in the ultimate joy and hope of sanctuary. As followers Easter. of Christ, it is important that we walk through the ~Kimberly White darkness of Good Friday to experience the Easter Tulips The Handbell Groups are selling Easter Tulips as a fundraiser this year. The cost of each Tulip plant is $10 and will be used to decorate the sanctuary for Easter Sunday. Your purchased tulips may be picked up on Easter Sunday after the worship service. If you would like to purchase a tulip, please stop by or call the church office at 484-3537. The Clothing Closet The Clothing Closet continues to grow and prosper. Thanks to our generous congregation our hallway leading into the Clothing Closet is often filled with containers of donated clothing. It is a constant exchange of receiving and giving which brings great joy to all of our volunteers. At our monthly meetings, heartwarming stories are shared where a community member was touched in some way by our clothing ministry. Often, it is a fire victim or someone in need of clothes for a job interview. If you have not had the opportunity to see the Clothing Closet, please do. We are open to the public on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Our monthly staff meetings are on the first Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. Please join us to learn more about the Clothing Closet. Thank you again for your never-ending generosity. ~Fran Gospodarek 2014 Graduates Please join us on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center (gym) to celebrate our graduating seniors!
