Products Built in the USA,
with Global Materials
On November 11, 2013, DEWALT Professional Power Tools announced their line of
cordless SKUs that will be Built in the USA with global materials, increasing the total number
of products DEWALT manufacturers in the U.S. to over 600 SKUs across DEWALT branded
product categories.
Consistent with their strategy to move their manufacturing operations closer to their core
customer base, this localization initiative optimizes the DEWALT manufacturing footprint by
leveraging their newly revamped 75,000 square-foot Charlotte, NC manufacturing facility and
Fort Mill, SC distribution center to deliver DEWALT cordless products to DEWALT’s core
customer base in the U.S. The DEWALT brand will retain the same Guaranteed Tough quality
that their customers have come to know and expect, while delivering with greater efficiency
across the U.S.
Production of DEWALT products that are Built in the USA with global materials began
in October 2013 with DEWALT’s line of 18V and 20V Cordless Drills at their Charlotte
Manufacturing Operations (CMO) facility in North Carolina. The location will be fully
operational before the end of 2013.
DEWALT officially announced their product offerings that are
Built in the USA with global materials to distributors and the
media at the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association
(STAFDA) annual convention and tradeshow in Las Vegas,
NV. In addition to their announcement at STAFDA, DEWALT
continued its commitment to America by sponsoring the Las Vegas
Veteran’s Day Parade, the largest Veteran’s Day Parade west of the
Mississippi. Staff from DEWALT saluted veterans by marching
in the parade alongside four DEWALT trucks, a five-ton military
vehicle and a replica of the DEWALT branded NASCAR race car.

Board Chairman’s Message
Welcome to the New Year!
As business people charged with
leading our companies, growing sales
and revenues, and developing plans and
finding solutions to that end, we end one
year and enter another with expectations
of better things to come, as it should be.
In my mind, unquestionably, that inner
drive for a better product, a better process,
a better solution and a better answer is
what defines the company and its level
of success. However I would be remiss
if I simply laid it at the doorstep of the
quest for increased sales and revenues.
Where is the joy in that? The company
that successfully couples that revenue
quest and at the same time builds an
environment that encourages, promotes
and celebrates the individual achievement
of its people is the ultimate winner on all
fronts.
I like to think that Sphere 1 is such
an organization. For fifteen years we
have been a value delivered organization.
We have carefully explored options and
opportunities to deliver that value, all
the while building a body of distributors
and suppliers that shared a mutual vision
and level of expectation that has come to
define Sphere 1.
The result of that mutual effort, vision
and expectation is that 2013 was a good
year for our organization, a very good
year. It will be our best year ever, but more
importantly, in a very challenging business
and economic climate, we accomplished
it together with a sense of dedicated
partnering. Through the process it is my
sincere hope that each of you felt that ever
important joy and satisfaction that springs
from a job well done. To all a heartfelt…
job well done.
With a new year ahead of us, I would
like to take this opportunity to sincerely
thank all of our members and suppliers
for their dedication and commitment
to Sphere 1. I would also like to thank
and commend Carol, Mike, my fellow
Directors, Melinda, Nancy, Colleen, Kathy,
Barb and Joe for their outstanding efforts
throughout the past year. Again together,
you have built a wonderful organization.
Wishing you and your families a
Happy, Healthy, Successful New Year!
Bob
The following day on November 12, 2013, DEWALT made a tool donation to the local
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post tool in downtown Las Vegas. The DEWALT tools
will be used to setup a tool bank from which local veterans can borrow and utilize tools for
projects, at no cost.
The complete line of DEWALT product offerings that are Built in the USA with global
materials, including some of their top SKUs, such as the 20V MAX Lithium Ion Compact Drill
/ Driver Kit (DCD780C2) and the 20V MAX Lithium Ion ¼ Impact Driver Kit (DCF885C2),
can be found at www.toolsofthebrave.com.
DEWALT partners with the Wounded Warrior Project®
In October 2013, DEWALT kicked
off their partnership with the Wounded
Warrior Project® (WWP), to help
support their vision of fostering the most
successful, well-adjusted generation of
wounded service members in U.S. history.
The partnership includes DEWALT’s
promise of a minimum donation of
$250,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project
and hiring more than 100
Veterans by the close of 2013.
A special Chair Build
Event was held at Stanley
Black and Decker University
in Towson, MD on October
31, where six WWP Alumni
were invited to build
Adirondack chairs with members of
the DEWALT team. The teams used
DEWALT-WWP special edition products
to build the chairs, and each chair was
engraved with the DEWALT logo and the
WWP Challenge Coin was embedded in
the back. After the event, WWP Alumni
were able to take home their finished
chairs along with the tools used to build
the chairs, and an additional supply of
tools from DEWALT for their homes and
gardens.
The special edition lineup of DEWALT
-WWP tools includes cordless drill/drivers
& impacts, a mig-welded
hammer, 25’ tape measure,
storage box, and drill/driving
accessory kits that launched
in mid-September within
the Independent, 2-Step, and
Military Exchange channels.
A selection of these products
will also be available at The Home Depot
and Lowe’s.
Visit www.dewalt.com/wwp for a list
of SKUs and more information about the
partnership.

"Jim" James P. Stahl
February 27, 1949 - January 5, 2014
The Executive Vice-President and CoFounder of Specified Technologies, Inc.,
Branchburg, New Jersey, held numerous
patents for fire protection. Considered one
of the fathers of the firestop industry, his
work as an engineer, chemical formulator,
and researcher predated many of the modern
codes and standards that mandate use of such
products. Many modern firestop materials are
based upon technology that he first developed. He was a founding
member of the International Firestop Council, a member of the
NFPA, ASTM and Chaired the NEMA firestop section in the 1980’s.
Jim was a classic car lover and an enthusiastic participant in countless
cruise night events throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was
passionate about genealogy, and traced his roots to a family church in
Marietta, Pennsylvania. He owned a second home in Tarpon Springs,
Florida, and spent some of his happiest moments there fishing along
the flats or on Lake Tarpon, and cheering his beloved Phillies during
spring training.
Peacefully passed away at 90
years young, with his family at
his side. He leaves behind his
wife of 65 years, Arvilla; sons,
Scott (fiancee Marcy), Mark
(Linda) and Ron (Deborah)
Credit; grandchildren, Adam
Credit, Brett (Disa) Pevear,
Brooke Pevear, Amy (Matt)
Bukowski, Emily Credit, Lisa & Barbara Giudice; his
great-grandchildren, Chelsea (Chad) Collier, Morgan
& Abi Pevear and Kinley Zaretsky; great-greatgrandchild, Cayden Collier; as well as loving extended
family and numerous friends.
Harm grew up in Avon and was a proud WWII Veteran
serving in the South Pacific. Forty-five years ago, after
retiring from Eastman Kodak
Fire Dept., Harm and Arvilla
started Harmco Fastener
Company, growing the
company from their basement
into branches in Rochester
and Buffalo. Harm and Arvilla
traveled extensively, and
enjoyed many happy years in Boynton Beach, FL with
good friends.
A Memorial Service and reception were held Nov. 17,
2013 at the First Baptist Church of Penfield. In lieu of
flowers, and in memory of Harm, those wishing may
contribute to the First Baptist Church, or Honor Flight
Rochester, PO Box 23581, Rochester, NY 14692.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Teresa Fowler Stahl;
a son and daughter-in-law, James P. Stahl II and Monica Stahl; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and Sean Hoopes and Corinne
and Joseph Ansel; and five grandchildren, Emma and Tyler Stahl,
and Zachary, Sophie, and Sarah Hoopes, with his sixth grandchild,
a granddaughter, due in May. He is also survived by his sister and
brother-in-law, Mary and Gene Rutter of Media, PA; his sistersin-law and brother-in-law, Mary Fowler, John and Rose Bell, and
Elizabeth Fowler; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial
contributions in Jim’s name be made to the Hunterdon Medical
Center Foundation, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822.
"It is with heavy hearts that
we say goodbye to Jim who
fought courageously to the
very end, but had been at peace and looking forward to life in the
other and better world. As co-founder of STI, Jim built a successful
company and in the process changed our industry. One of his greatest
legacies since retirement a year ago was to leave a strong team
behind him. We will miss him sorely."
– Charbel Tagher, Co-Founder and President
