Sales Model Improvements
At the 2013 Partnership conference,
the IRWIN Team had the pleasure of
addressing the members. The content of
the presentation was simple and to the
point, “thank you for your business”. We
know that you have choices for power tool
accessories and hand tools and are flattered
that we are growing year over year with
such a fantastic collection of Distributors.
Your trust in our products makes us try
harder for you. Our goals are to be the
best performing, most profitable line in
your portfolio.
Newell Rubbermaid is a business
that is built on acquisitions. Our Brands
include; IRWIN, LENOX, Rubbermaid
Commercial Products, DYMO, Sharpie,
Rubbermaid, Graco, Calphalon, Goody
and the list goes on. Until recently, each
Brand operated independently which
explains how fragmented and inefficient
we were to service our Distributor
partners.
In the wake of the economic downturn
in 2009 and increased competition, we
decided to stay relevant to our partners and
review our cost to serve. Our sales model
improvements will soon include; one
purchase order for multiple brands, one
ship from distribution center for; IRWIN,
Sharpie, DYMO and
Gott industrial coolers
and more to come
early next year. We are
also investing in our
sales team. Recently,
we hired 19 more
sales professionals
to increase our
coverage for our
Tools businesses.
Fall 2013
Vol. 14 No. 1
The additional sellers are charged with
driving end user demand and servicing
our Distributor partners by not only
driving our primary Brands but also our
well known sub-brands such as; StraitLine, Speedbor, Marples, Vise Grip,
Quick-Grip, Unibit, Hanson, Vari-Bit, T2,
Master-Band, Wolf-Band, Lazer, LENOX
Diamond/Gold, Rubbermaid Commercial
Products and the list goes on.
Our pace of change has been slow and
deliberate but as you can see we are trying
to improve our distribution model to allow
our partners to share in our efficiencies and
generate a greater GMROI with our lines.
Combined orders and lower collective
prepaid minimums should generate
improved turns and greater margin for our
partners.
National Tradesman Day –
September 20th, 2013
As you know,
IRWIN has set aside
one day a year to
“thank a tradesman”.
Our 2013 National
Tradesman Day was
our largest effort
yet. We kicked off
National Tradesman
Day season with
the IRWIN Night
Race on August
24th, 2013. At the
race, we hosted over
300 Tradesman to
start the festivities by chanting the most
famous words in racing; ladies
and gentlemen “start your
engines”…It was a fantastic
event and started this year’s
National Tradesman Day
with a bang. We also
supported NTD with a
nationally televised 15
second commercial that
was shown over 2400

Helping kids find success in their philanthropic efforts has always been a core value at Contractors
Supply, Inc. This past spring, Contractors Supply,
Inc. learned of a particularly motivated group of
Denver high school students who would spend part of
their summer break volunteering their time improving living conditions in and around Todos Santos,
Baja California Sur Mexico. Their projects included
construction at a private residence that was in poor
repair as well as improvements at a local orphanage.
The teens had already raised $20,000 to fund the
project and were prepared to purchase gloves, safety glasses, and hard hats. Contractors Supply, Inc. donated the personal safety gear for each of the student volunteers. Upon their return,
the students reported that the time spent doing construction and with the
kids at the orphanage was immensely gratifying.
CSI held their annual Contractors Expo,
June 14, 2013 at the Denver, CO location.
Attendees enjoyed the Bronco Cheerleaders and took advantage of DEWALT
promotions. The days DEWALT totals included; $140,000 Show

the tangible assets; it was the employees that will be coming with the acquisition of the company. With this merger we will be adding over 50 years of fastener experience and knowledge
to the already experienced staff in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I would also like to take this
time to welcome John, Lee, Frank, and Dean to the Southwest Fastener Team, home of the

Fisher Tools held a very successful
Makita PRO Innovation Event focusing
on their strength which is concrete and
granite fabricator companies. The sales
event was so busy that there was no opportunity to take photos
until late in the day. The picture therefore is not representative of
the amount of attendees. If the quantity of food consumed is an
indication, Fisher's had a great turnout. By days end over 100 lbs
of chicken and 50 lbs of hot dogs were served.
The Makita Team has worked with Consolidated
Fasteners in Salt Lake City to prepare for their
Oct. 1st Contractor Event. The photo shows
Consolidated's new display. The team effort
resulted in sales doubling that of last year. Thanks go out to all for
a great effort from Larry Larson and Curtis Zeeh and the rest of
the sales department working with Makita's Gary Johnson. Great
Team work by all!
Neu’s Building Center held their Makita Days June 18th.
The event provided a great opportunity for customers to learn
more about the value of Makita innovation. Most interest was
in the AVT anti-vibration technology and the LXT 18V LiIon
cordless system with over 65 models
using the same battery. Traditional
Wisconsin fare of brats, soda and chips
was served to customers.

increased Makita sales YTD. Thanks to the Brinker Brown team for
the participation and support for Makita products!
Big D Bolt and Tool's demo day
started with rain, lots of rain. But
the weather didn't ruin the Sept. 20th
event. Sales were double any previous
Makita demo days. Great specials and blitzing customer
locations and jobsites to promote the event prior to the day are
credited with the overall success. Many customers purchased
cart loads of tools. Miss Makita was on hand to autograph
posters and take pictures with the customers and staff. Food for the day was a traditional Texas
sized BBQ. Thanks to Bob Coursey and the staff for all their support and hard work that day! CSI EXPO was held on June 14th. The Expo
included over 50 vendors and 300 to 400 contractors in attendance. Customers were treated to
lunch from 11am to 2 pm. The day was followed
by a VIP, invitation only, dinner featuring filet mignon and rib eye
steak. Senorita Makita was signing posters during both events,
as were cheerleaders from the Denver Bronco's. The DJ played
requests throughout the evening. Some lucky guests left with prizes awarded during a drawing

Stanley Black & Decker Supports Wounded Warrior Project.
Earlier this year, DEWALT announced a partnership with Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) to help support their vision of fostering the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in U.S. history.
The launch event took place at the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) ‘Last Cowboy Standing’ Professional Bull Riding (PBR) event in Las Vegas, NV, May 10 – 11, 2013. The event
featured bull riders dressed in co-branded riding attire, public service announcement messaging, WWP Alumni, current military service members, and fan giveaways. To top it off, Stanley
Black & Decker rider, Silvano Alves won the event!
Later that month, we continued our partnership; warriors and guests were invited as honorary VIP to the NASCAR All Star Race and Coca-Cola 600 Race, where they met Marcos
Ambrose and had the opportunity to watch races from the pit box. To further exemplify our
partnership, the WWP logo was on the racecars during these events.
DEWALT has made a commitment of donating $250,000 to Wounded Warrior Project in 2013.
In order to do so, the company has created a “Portion of Proceeds” Program. DEWALT has
created a lineup of products that feature Wounded Warrior Project logo on packaging, point of
purchase, or directly on the product.
These products, Cordless Drill/Drivers & Impacts as well as a mig-welded hammer, 25’ tape,
storage box, and drill/driving accessory kits will launch starting in mid-September.
Over the next twelve months, look for signs of our partnership with the WWP across the U.S.
including the STAFDA Convention in Las Vegas, NV.
Show your support by purchasing our limited additional Wounded Warrior product, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Wounded Warrior Project. Reach out to your local sales rep to

Sphere 1 members focusing on the concrete segment of the
market including Dust Extraction. The catalog also shows direct

exposure, conducting medical surveillance, training workers about silicarelated hazards and recordkeeping measures. Makita has developed a
class to teach your sales department about dust control. Contact your
local Makita representative or your Sphere 1 primary contact, Theresa

Pioneer Fasteners and Makita sponsored a Soccer Team in the
North Texas Premier Soccer Association's over 30 league. Team
Cuauhtémoc's record after 5 games was 2 wins, 3 ties. Soccer is
a huge passion with many
local contractors. Often they participate in the sport
after work with area Soccer Associations. With the
upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil soccer is attracting
more attention. For additional information about Makita
