Their mission is to carry out Christ’s command to preach the Gospel to all nations through pastoral and sacramental ministry, teaching and working among those in need. Their work takes place in the most underserved and remote areas of the world. They share Christ through service, teaching and caring for the sick and the poor. Some of their ministries include building and staffing schools, hospitals, orphanages and hospices. Please help to make their work possible through your generous donation. This week’s second collection at both parishes is for Catholic Relief Services which supports emergency relief, human development, and peace initiatives in 99 countries around the world, where nearly half the population lives on less than $2.00 a day. The collection funds the ministries of several Catholic Church organizations including the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Social Development and World Peace (SDWP), and The Holy Father’s Relief Fund. Next Week’s Parish Second Collection At both parishes for our parish utilities. Thank you for your continued support! August 3, 2014 3 The Parish Communities of Ste Marguerite d’Youville and St Rita Steubenville East Youth Conference This year’s Steubenville East Conference was held July 18 - 20 at the University of Rhode Island campus. I was blessed to be able to join the 18 young people from our parishes to pray with over 3,300 other young Catholics for this year’s theme, “God is Real.” The conference was a powerful retreat experience of God’s presence and love for everyone in attendance. We’re also very happy that beginning next summer, Steubenville East will be held at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, right here in our own backyard. Youth Ministry is at the forefront of the New Evangelization and our parishes are committed to supporting our young people grow in their faith. We’re all blessed that Sara and Christina have volunteered to share their experience of the weekend with all of us. Thanks again for all your prayers and support! God bless, Fr. Chris “When thinking about whether to attend the Steubenville Conference, I was convinced that this weekend would not compare to the days spent in Rio de Janeiro at World Youth Day. What I was forgetting is that any time spent in the presence of God, with youth who share the same faith, is an extremely fruitful and unforgettable experience. Besides being surrounded by thousands of faith-filled people, the team of speakers was inspiring and thought provoking. They each spoke about what “God is…” to them, which was the theme of the conference. They also touched upon how, as children of God, we are never alone, even in moments when we feel abandoned by the people around us. Where can we turn? We turn to our faith in the fact that God loves us and is willing to forgive us, no matter how grave our sins. He is always waiting with open arms. Being in the presence of the Eucharist is a great reminder of this. This weekend challenged me, through the testimonies of others, to reflect on how much I embrace God and the values of Jesus in my own life. It is not always easy to be catholic and embrace who we are with the possibility of being judged by others. The key is to turn to God for the strength to say, “I am who I am.”” - Sara Guilbeault “Steubenville East was such an incredible experience. I went into the retreat with a shaky faith and not sure what to believe. Leaving it, I was one hundred percent sure that God is real. I’m trying to think of words to describe everything and the words that keep coming to mind are miraculous and awe. Saturday night Adoration was so powerful and it truly opened my eyes to the wonders of God. I felt so uplifted afterwards. The day we left we asked the Holy Spirit to be with us and to come to us, and I felt my heart get very warm. It was a strange yet beautiful sensation. I knew it was the Holy Spirit because every other part of my body was freezing due to the air conditioner. Overall, it was such an amazing trip and I am so blessed to have gone and bonded with some great friends and made a real connection with God that I will cherish and carry with me for the rest of my life.” - Christina Laderoute 4 Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Dracut/Lowell, MA Ste Marguerite Parish Club The Mission of Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Parish Club is to encourage and foster Christian fellowship for the purpose of outreach and growth of our faith community, through social, spiritual, and fundraising events. Or do you like to take control of something and run with it? Do you have limited availability? If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, please consider joining us! We understand that your time is valuable; we know that your opinion matters and we’d love to have your expertise. We agree that being part of something worthwhile is important. You’ve heard the sayings “the more the merrier” or “many hands make for light work.” How about this one from Roma? “New ideas can make good things great!” Come be part of the planning, preparation and discussion of the numerous events that we will be hosting, attending and/or sponsoring throughout the year. Consider dropping by on August 18th to meet some of the members or just to pick up our Calendar of Events. Hope to see you there! August 3, 2014 5 The Parish Communities of Ste Marguerite d’Youville and St Rita St. Louis School Registrations are being accepted for the 2014-2015 school year. Anyone wishing a tour or more information, please call 978-458-7594. We would like to meet you and show you our wonderful school. Many new students have registered and classes are quickly filling. We are accepting students who are 3 years old up to grade 8. One of the reasons that St. Louis School is thought of as a family is because children are with us so long - age 3 to 14. During this time, we get to know and love the children. We become a caring family wanting only the best for each other. Men of St. Joseph The “Men of St. Joseph” is an established men’s ministry whose mission is to call men to become the strong and faith-filled husbands, fathers, and leaders, whom God has created us to be.
