Gn 15:5-12,17-18/Ps 27:1,7-9,13-14/Phil 3:17- 4:1/Lk 9:28-36 (Living Liturgy 2015-2016)
Living the Paschal Mystery
Luke’s allusions to Jesus’ death in Jerusalem prompt us to consider
our being plunged into Jesus’ dying and rising in the baptismal waters. We are invited this Sunday to see our baptism in light of the
transfiguration.
Baptism isn't simply a ritual we preform, but initiates a covenant
with God that we live out the rest of our lives. During Lent as we
walk with the elect through their final preparation for baptism we,
too, prepare to renew our covenant with God at Easter. This means
that we not only already share in God’s Life and look forward to that
day when we will share eternal glory with God, but we also embrace
the suffering and death.
Let’s face it: constant dying to self gets tiresome! This Sunday we
are given a glimpse of glory to help ease away the discouragement
of a lifetime of self emptying . This tells us something about how we
might keep Sundays. If each Sunday is a day of rest, a time to be
good to ourselves, to do something special that is uplifting, to enter
into a moment of glory, we would be better fortified to continue
dying to self. Sunday is weekly opportunity of us to enter into the
glory of transfiguration.

Did you know?
Building your child’s self-esteem could help prevent abuse
Bullies and predators typically pick easy targets to victimize and
abuse. This could be a child who has low self-esteem or confidence.
An abuser may use low self-esteem to forge a bond with a victim, or
even to make a victim think that he or she deserves abusive treatment. To guard against this, you can work on building self-esteem by
teaching kids their worth as children of God. For more tips, request a
copy of “Balancing Discipline and Self Esteem” from
jvienna@la-archdiocese.org.
Lent is indeed how God draws us home,
as individuals. But, it is also a very
communal journey. We never journey
alone, no matter how "lonely" we may
feel. We are always journeying together. If we can experience our journey in
communion with others, it makes it so much clearer that we are
on a journey together. When I can share my experience with
even one other close friend, or with my regular worshiping
community, I can enjoy and share the support and environment
that allows grace to flourish. Let us pray for each other on this
journey, especially those who need and desire a change of
heart on this pilgrimage to Easter joy.

¿Sabia Usted?
mismo(a).
