To build and foster a Christian community 2646 S Mansfield Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90016 Phone: (323) 935-8127 ****** Fax: (323) 939-3547 We Are One United Family! ¡Somos una familia unida! W E e open the season of Ordinary Time-the “numbered weeks”--the weeks celebrating the hidden work of the Holy Spirit in the world--with the reading from Isaiah about “the suffering servant.” Israel is seen as God’s faithful servant, suffering in its mission to bring the entire world to the Throne of Grace--a mission it can never ignore or it ceases to be “Israel.” The very definition of Israel, according to the suffering servant poems (there are a total of 4) is “the one who brings God to the world and the world to God.” So, we begin with a reminder of what it means to be God’s people. Then Paul, knowing that definition to his toe tips says, “Be holy!” Not perfect--that’s not possible--but be intent on being the sacred Self you are meant to be-for that is how the “Light shines out.” The Gospel reading of the Christ as the Lamb of God--to be offered for the world closes the weekend’s meditation. WE are the Body of Christ--WE are to be the Lamb of God, offering ourselves for others--being the Light. But we only do that by being who we are --NOT who we are not. God doesn’t ask us to create a new identity, rather we are asked to be “authentically us.” Let’s try to call forth our deepest Truth, our best self this week. - Fr. - Padre Bill Axe Would you like to add family members who are sick to our Sick List? You will be the treasure of your families, whom you will make happy by your good conduct.” - Pope St. Pius X To build and foster a Christian Community that offers the opportunity to experience God God’s ’s unconditional love and acceptance to all who come into contact with it. E n today’s Gospel we hear John call Jesus the “Lamb of God”, he who will take away the sins of the world. These words are familiar to us because we hear them every time we attend Mass. What do these words mean to you? Are you aware of the mystery held in these words? Christ came to redeem us through His blood, His sacrifice on Calvary. Let us take a few moments today to thank our God for the love He showed us by His death and pledge ourselves to live as followers of Jesus. Monday is Martin Luther King Juniors holiday. We remember someone who lived the words of Christ throughout his life. He preached and lived for the equality of all in this nation. I was lucky to visit his memorial in Atlanta, Georgia in Dec. It was truly moving to visit his and his wife’s graves in the reflection pool. There are two large tombs in the middle of the water facing an eternal flame. It is a quiet and deeply spiritual place. The Church where his father was pastor is next door. Martin’s funeral was held in this little Baptist Church yet it reached far and wide. We are given the task of keeping the equality and love of all that he preached relevant in our times. I pray we can do this in our lives and actions. n el Evangelio del día de hoy, Juan nombra a Jesús como el “Cordero de Dios,” él quitará los pecados del mundo.
