FESTIVE CELEBRATIONS
Since our last newsletter so much has
happened at Abingdon Court. Elvis, local
tribute artist Graham Stanmore, delighted
all those who attended the Christmas
Lights Show with a performance of hits as
well as beautiful classic Christmas songs
that made the start of the festive season
very special.
The Brownies visited in December and the
residents really enjoyed listening to them
all sing. Tiny Toes Nursery also visited
and gave out presents to the residents.
Many relatives visited on Christmas Day
and stayed to enjoy a special lunch with
their loved ones. It was a great family
atmosphere.
Friend of Abingdon Court, Maria Parsons,
Chief Executive of The Creative Dementia
Arts Network was our guest of honour and
switched on the lights.
Our pantomime, Beauty and the Beast was
amazing and we enjoyed laughing along
with the performers while we enjoyed a
glass of Baileys.

Awareness evening as last year’s event
was so well received and attended. It is
a great opportunity to introduce people to
our fantastic home and also help people in
the community by providing advice about
caring for those with dementia.
DEMENTIA ARTS NETWORK
Cumnor Village Hall was the setting
for a vintage tea party that many of the
residents and staff enjoyed on a day trip.
A lovely time was had by all dancing and
taking high tea. The cakes were delicious
and everyone sang along to classic and
favourite songs.
We are looking forward to working with the
Dementia Arts Network. Our wonderful
home has been selected to have an artist in
residence. Anne, who works with textiles
will work with us for several months. We
are all looking forward to welcoming Anne
and learning new skills and having fun at
the same time.
We are now halfway through our music
course with Ben Healy from Abingdon
Music Centre. It is a course specially
designed for people with dementia and is
called Black Spot. We are learning about
rhythms and keeping time to the music and
also having a great sing along.
NEWS IN BRIEF
When the weather warms up a day trip
is planned to Milestones Living History
Museum in Basingstoke. It’s a great place
with some wonderful things to see and do.
There is a vintage sweet shop and an old
fashioned pub where everyone can enjoy
a tipple.
We would like to thank all our wonderful
volunteers who really do make a difference
to the well being of our residents. We look
forward to welcoming those from Radley
College, Our Lady’s and St Helen’s and St
Catherine’s volunteering in the new year.
STAFF PROFILE
FOR YOUR DIARY
Bogdan Druta is our charming and
dedicated maintenance man, who along
with his wife our head house-keeper Ionela
ensure the Home is always spick and span.
This year we are planning and booking
many new events and entertainers. We
warmly welcome relatives to join us for
these occasions. The weekly planners and
future dates for activities can be found at
Reception and posted in the lifts. We look
forward to seeing you all soon.
We have a monthly church service with
Christ Church, Abingdon on the first
Wednesday of the month at 10.45am.
Everyone is welcome and we enjoy tea and
biscuits together after the service.
Every Monday and Wednesday at 2.15pm
the vivacious Christine leads musical
movement sessions. Christine has been a
friend of the Home for many years and her
dear father was a resident here.
Bogdan has been with us for nearly two
years. He is always on hand to help put up
pictures or move furniture for our residents
with a smile. He also undertakes all the
maintenance around the Home. As well as
running errands for the home, Bogdan is
happy to make residents a cup of tea. We
just wanted to say thank you to him for all
his hard work and kindness.
