Matthew weighed 10lb 9oz. Congratulations to Sophia in 1st grade who won the VFW coloring contest in her age. She won a Target gift card. Annual Pet Blessing - Pets are welcome to come to a blessing Friday, October 4 at 1:30 on the school playground. A Prayer Service will be held prior to the blessing in the gym. The Prayer Service is being planned by the 6th grade. Early Dismissal—Students will be dismissed at 1:55 tomorrow, October 4 in order for our students to participate in the Wilmington Homecoming Parade. Picture Day - October 15 is picture day. It is a No Uniform Day. Since Picture Day is on a Tuesday, preschoolers that attend on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will be able to come in to have their picture taken the morning of October 15. I will send more information about what time to be at school as we get closer to the date. We also will set up our Retake day for a Monday, Wednesday or Friday so that students who are absent, want a retake or attend Monday, Wednesday, Friday Preschool will be able to have their school picture taken. Mrs. Esposito’s Preschool This week in preschool students worked with the letter Ee, ovals, color brown and the number five. Next week our discussions will focus on the letter Ff, color orange, star and the number six. It was a big help. Thank you Mrs. McGuire and Mrs. Lewsader for walking with us to the library. It sure was a beautiful day to walk. Thank you parents for helping your child practice his/her reading part for our first Mass. All students did a great job. Information about our Halloween party will be sent home soon. Reminders Scholastic books orders due Oct. 21st – order online Lego Club ends Oct. 23rd Miss Major’s Class ReligionThe students will take the assessment for Chapter 1 and we will begin Chapter 2 this week, which focuses on the Sacraments of Initiation. ReadingOur reading story is “Allie’s Basketball Dream”. It begins on page 114 of your child’s Reading book. Please see the “Family Times” Handout that your child received today. It was sent home in CAMP binders. This handout includes various activities to do with your child at home, which will aid with comprehension. The reading skill this week is character. In class, we are working on a comprehension packet that goes along with the story. English/Language ArtsOur focus this week is on clear and interesting subjects. SpellingThe spelling list this week consists of long i and short i. Please see the “Family Times” Handout- the spelling words are listed on the back, along with bonus words. We will also review words with short vowels. MathWe will continue to learn basic multiplication facts. Social StudiesThis week we are continuing our lessons about Community Life and Workers. PenmanshipStudents are learning uppercase letters this week. We will continue to review lowercase letters as well. Mrs. Duffy’s Classes 7th Grade Announcements Spirit wear tomorrow; wear your BLUE or PURPLE!! 5th - 8th Math PLEASE NOTE CHANGES FOR ALL GRADES! Assignments may be corrected for full credit. Quizzes can be corrected for half credit. Homework corrections are due every MONDAY! Quiz corrections are due on Tuesdays. Corrections will only be accepted if they follow these guidelines: Must be done on a separate sheet of loose leaf paper with a proper heading. Only correct the ones that are wrong. Re-write the original problem and show all your work. Circle your final answer. Provide a brief explanation next to each problem as to why you got it wrong. Staple corrections ON TOP OF the original assignment or quiz. Homework Lab I will be available every day until 3:20 for any student who would like to attend. Students are encouraged to seek help on daily assignments, corrections, quiz preparation, etc. ALEKS Update This week’s requirement: 5th/6th Grade: 8 topics/10 Gold Club 7th/8th Grade: 8 topics/10 Gold Club 5th Grade Math Fifth graders are wrapping up multiplication and will re-visit division next. I will not see 5th grade for math tomorrow due to early dismissal. NEXT QUIZ IS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH. 6th Grade Math Sixth graders have finished operations with decimals and are now moving into operations with fractions. I will not see 6th grade for math tomorrow due to early dismissal. NEXT QUIZ IS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH. 7th Grade Pre-Algebra Seventh graders are finishing up operations with rational numbers and have learned that negatives can be a real pain! We will work on problem solving next. NEXT QUIZ IS TOMORROW. 8th Grade Algebra I Eighth grade is finishing up solving equations and are getting ready to do some work with inequalities. Our fluency with solving equations will greatly help us in our next topic! NEXT QUIZ IS TOMORROW. Attached are pictures from this week’s “Solving Equations Scavenger Hunt” Mrs. Vimpeny’s Classes The 8th graders survived testing week. They enjoyed playing in the kickball tournament that was made up of students from grades 4-8. Now we are back on a normal schedule. RELIGION: The 7th graders planned this week's Mass celebrating the Guardian Angels. They did a nice job with the Mass. The 8th graders helped by singing and altar serving. The 8th graders have started their second unit on Confirmation. This week we are discussing the Ten Commandments. There is an opportunity for service hours coming up on October 12. More info is coming. This class is also sponsoring Undy Sunday. The students are making posters to advertise this project. We are in need of some collection boxes. LANGUAGE ARTS: The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are finishing up their essays for the VFW, “What Patriotism Means To Me.” They are working hard to meet the 300-400 word requirement! Chapter 3 in Vocabulary will be completed for Tuesday with the test on Wednesday. The 5th graders finished Unit One in their Language Arts book. We are now on to nouns. With the limited classes over the next two weeks, we will stretch next week's spelling over that time. READING: We have started working in the Literature books by previewing different parts of the book. The first unit deals with suspense. We will study internal and external conflict and foreshadowing. FIELD TRIP: Monday is our field trip to Fair Oaks Farms. Students are to dress in St. Rose Spirit wear. Please pack a lunch in disposable containers. Milk will be provided. We will also have ice cream. We are looking forward to an enjoyable and educational field trip.
