This Tuesday Learn2Lead continues with the second session of the Maccabi
Streetwise self-defence course from 7.15 – 9:00pm in the Deal Hall for Years 9 - 10.
Club 78 continues next Motzei Shabbat, 26th January, with chocolate making!!!

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2013
will be commemorated this Sunday, 20 January, 12:45 for 1:00pm,
at Ricketts Quadrangle, Middlesex University, The Burroughs,
Hendon, NW4 4BT.
The ceremony, which starts with a civic procession in Hendon led
by the Mayor of Barnet, culminates in a range of special guests
speaking about their own personal experiences. This year’s theme is
“Communities Together: Build a Bridge.”

THE DAY ON WHICH THE DOGS DIDN’T BARK
In anticipation of their imminent redemption from Egyptian bondage, Moshe informed
the Israelites, “No dog will bark at any one of the Children of Israel. Neither man nor
beast will have reason to fear.” [Shemot 11:7]
What difference would it have made if some dogs would have barked at us as we left
Egypt? Why is such a big deal made here of the absence of canine growling? Rashbam
and Ibn Ezra described the contrast that would exist between the Egyptian nation and the
fleeing Israelites. At the very moment when Egypt would be filled with misery and grief,
the Israelites would emerge from their midst with happiness and joy. Their tranquility
would be such that not even a dog would spoil the moment for them.
It is not unusual for tiny, negative considerations to influence our mood. For example,
after an event that has been remarkably successful, with everything going to plan and
with wonderful feedback being received, if there has been just one negative comment or
complaint, that is what will probably occupy our thoughts.
In Sefer Orchot Tzadikim, the following analogy is given: If a wonderful dish has been
prepared with many tasty ingredients, and one has used a small amount of one inappropriate
spice, the entire dish could be ruined. This is exactly what Hashem sought to save the
Israelites from. They were informed that at the height of their simcha, when emerging
triumphantly from centuries of cruel oppression, nothing would mar their celebration not even a dog would bark!

KCC is very pleased that the Jewish Military Museum is able to welcome us for an informative and highly
educational afternoon. This gem of a museum is jam packed with memorabilia and exhibits from WW1 and
WW11 and so much more.
Meeting at Shield House for a relaxing sandwich lunch at 1:00pm.
At 2:00pm we will begin our visit of the museum, including an introductory PowerPoint presentation and an
introductory talk and dvd presentation. This will be followed by ample time to view the museum.

British Museum Tanach Tour Wednesday 13th February, 10:30am – 1:00pm.
Founded in 1753, the British Museum is one of the greatest museums in the world, housing countless
treasures from the biblical era. Our guide is Rabbi Aryeh Forta and our Tour will focus mainly on our
ancestors’ encounter with:
(a) Egypt, examining the career of Joseph, our ancestors’ slavery and exodus;
(b) Assyria, illustrating a terrifying passage from Melachim Bet (II Kings);
(c) Persia, where we will look at items relevant to Megilat Esther (the Book of Esther)
With two exceptions, all the artefacts we will see are between 3,500 – 2,500 years old.
We will have a private session with one of the curators, so it is essential that we start promptly as we
are expected in the archive one hour after the start of the tour.
This tour is recommended for adults and youth aged 12 and upwards.
Cost: £23 members, £26 non-members, £10 under 16s.
