Many of those participating in mega events are tourists, while mega events have an enormous impact in all the components of the tourism value chain of the host destination(s). Beyond the immediate impacts in terms of investment, infrastructurenamely accommodation and transport, urban development or regeneration, employment generation and brand exposurethere are a number of legacy impacts that should be associated with hosting a mega-event. This year’s UNWTO & WTM Ministers’ Summit will look into what it takes to create a lasting tourism legacy from hosting mega-events.
