WYOMING CITIZEN REVIEW PANEL August 2015 FAMILY NEWSLETTER Getting Your Kids Ready For School Early education and school readiness is a cornerstone of the Parents as Teachers program. We encourage you to read with your child and to find new ways to explore with them. Find School District Contacts Albany CO Dist. #1 1948 Grand Ave. Laramie, WY 82070 307-721-4400 fun ways to learn colors, shapes and names or the different things in your child’s world. www.acsd1.org Music is a great way to help your child learn rhythm, instruments, sounds and even develop Fremont CO Dist. #1 their emotions or feelings. During these final weeks of summer, regardless of your child’s age, take every opportunity to get those minds ready to learn. Many families today face budget limitations, which can make purchasing some educational toys difficult. Our answer…get creative and look around your home! You may have the makings for more educational toys than you could have ever imagined! An old shoe box, some small toy cars and uncooked rice can turn into a great sensory box for your toddler to use in exploring their sense of touch. A cereal box and rubber bands can be turned into a guitar. Mix that with some pots, pans and spoons to create a band right in your kitchen! Create a word game with your older children to expand their vocabulary. Take turns thinking of words to describe different feelings and emotions. Talk about the emotions and feelings and write new/extra words onto cards. This can help them learn new ways to express what they are feeling. Learning is everywhere and often right at your fingertips. So, we challenge you to seize the moment with your child, make some incredible memories and help expand their mind while getting them prepared for being back in the classroom! 400 Baldwin Creek Rd. Many of us have experienced that person in some way, shape or form. We might have been that person, supported that person or run from that person. While our children may struggle with fitting in and growing up, just as we did, their struggles will all be slightly different. Technology has opened up a new world to kids and adults alike. We have access to just about anything we want with the touch of a button and in most cases, that button is in our pants pocket or purse. This advancement in technology can also bring new challenges to kids when dealing with conflict. Type of bullying have evolved and we need to also. As our kids head back to school, or maybe for the first time, parents should be vigilant and involved. Know the warning signs a child may show if they are being bullied or if they are the aggressor. Be sure to keep the lines of communication open between you and your child to allow them to speak freely to you when they feel they might need help. If you think your child may be involved in a bulling situation, work with your child’s school or daycare provider to find a solution which keeps your child and others safe.
