May God bless you all as you do His will with love!” – Cedar Rapids “Thank you, KJIA, for being with me every day and reminding me of my constant companion, Lord and Savior, Jesus. He is faithful! Blessings,” – Milford We recently said our earthly goodbyes to my mother-inlaw. Lynette’s mother, Lois, had been battling a series of health related issues for the past 10 years or so and, at 82 years of age, quietly and gently slipped from this earthly life to her heavenly home early on the morning of March 4th. With events like these common to us all, you can well imagine the flurry of preparation and travel that immediately encompassed the entire and geographically extended family. Our oldest son, Aaron, wife Megan, and our grandchildren, Gavin and Reese boarded a plane in Texas and flew to Minnesota to join the rest of the family for the visitation and funeral. There had been some discussions as to whether 4-yearold Reese and 7-year-old Gavin, who had never witnessed a funeral firsthand, should be present at the visitation. However, it was quickly decided that the children would be taken to the visitation and it would be left up to them if they wanted to draw close to the casket. Once at the visitation, Reese asked our daughter…and her beloved Auntie…Bethany to take her up front. After shyly looking at all the flowers, Reese then looked at the body and said to Bethany; “Her dress is so pretty.” A short pause later Reese said; “I thought she would have disappeared to heaven by now.” Even before Bethany could try to put into words the concept of the soul and spirit returning to God but the body remaining, Reese put one hand on her hip and gently but firmly stated; “I think she will go tonight.” By Matt Dorfner, Executive Director How Reese came to the conclusion that when a person dies, they completely disappear as they are taken to heaven, who can know? But in her statement, our fouryear-old granddaughter expressed both the sure hope and great foundational truth of Christianity. Though her timing of the resurrection of the body was a little off, Reese is correct in declaring that the physical body will be raised again. In the words of God through Paul in 1 Cor 15:52-53 “…For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality” As we draw closer to the joy of Resurrection Sunday, may we all be encouraged to remember that our believing loved ones who have been “sown” as perishable bodies into the earth will, in God’s perfect timing, be raised imperishable and immortal to be with the Lord forever in heaven. “For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.” 1 Thes 4:16-18 And it may happen tonight! 1 Celebrate Easter with Kinship Christian Radio! He is 38 years old and she is 41 years old – never been married before. A beautiful love story with God at the center." – Bev Cother, KJIA Secretary “If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “You would find me visiting all of the American League ball parks for a game and a hot dog. If I could see my beloved Cleveland Indians or the Minnesota Twins play against the home team, that would be even better! “ – Steve Ware, Kinship Announcer If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” By Tracy Jones As a listener-supported and non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting and Kinship Christian Radio goes through an extensive and full scale financial audit of the finances every year. An independent CPA auditor conducts a two or three day on-site visit to our ministry headquarters to gather information and scrutinize the financials related to the income and expenditures of each of the ministry’s seven full power radio stations and the Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting Foundation. The gathered information is then taken back to the auditor’s office where weeks are spent filtering through the large amount of data, contacting us for verification of expenses and income, compiling reports to be reported to the IRS and the Minnesota Attorneys General office and personally reviewing her findings with the MICB Board of Directors. It is a lot of work and takes a great deal of time but this annual audit is a great way to assure that your donations are being properly accounted for and are being used for the purposes for which you have provided them. The audit is also a good way of seeing our ministry through a different set of eyes and provides invaluable feedback on how financial procedures can be improved to provide even greater assurance for your acts of generosity and support of Kinship Christian Radio. As always, should you ever have a question about a donation that you have provided or need information on your Faith Promise, please feel free to contact me anytime at 507-526-3233 or TracyJ@newmail.KinshipRadio.org. 2 It’s Bigger, Bolder, and more Informative! “I would take a trip to the Canary Islands, off the coast of Morocco, because it the most tropical-sounding place I know (blame this winter!). I would also spend a day or two in Casablanca, Morocco (‘Casablanca’ is one of my favorite movies!).” – Scott Pieri, Kinship Announcer GOING MOBILE? Can we tag along? In many ways, we’re the perfect guest as we don’t take up much space, won’t drop French fries between the seats in your car, or create dirty dishes. Best of all, we only speak when you want to hear from us! With the continuing transition to “mobile”…portable smart phones and tablets… you can now access Kinship Christian Radio anytime and anywhere through your iPhone, Android or iPad by downloading the free app through the Apple Store or Google Play. Lynette Dorfner Just like our Kinship Christian Radio sister-stations, KJCY is well underway with planning for an exciting summer of ministry and events. Looking at the calendar, we are just a few weeks away for our Second annual “KJCY Friend and Volunteer Appreciation” dinner. …and you are invited! We will be gathering on Tuesday evening, April 22nd at the Mason City First Citizens Bank Heritage Room to enjoy fellowship and a complimentary meal. Capping the evening will be a musical presentation from our very own on-air announcer, Beth Crosby! We would love to have you attend…simply call Diane or Lynette at 641-424-5529 or you can RSVP by email (DianeT@newmail.kinshipradio.org) or in person by dropping by the KJCY Broadcast Studio at 520 South Pierce in Mason City. Looking ahead we are sure of two things….warmer weather AND a host of parades, County Fairs, and community events across the KJCY listening area of northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota. Would you like the KJCY staff and volunteers to join your parade or event? While we canʼt promise we can make them all, we would certainly welcome your invitation! Did you know that Rochester is a part of the KJCY listening family? As our newest Kinship Christian Radio station the Rochester “Translator” actually broadcasts the 24-hour radio ministry of KJCY. This summer, we are looking forward to meeting many more of our new Rochester listening family members and expanding the awareness of the availability of KJCY. If you know of a friend or family member who lives in or near Rochester and think they might be blessed by the ministry of KJCY, please email us their name and address and we will send them a KJCY Program Schedule. And…be sure to tell them that they can listen to KJCY in the Rochester area at 105.7 FM! As always, if you find yourself with a little extra time next time you are in Mason City, please stop by our KJCY studio… you are most welcome and we would love to meet you! And, if you canʼt make it in person, send us a greeting by email! “If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “Anywhere warm! Hawaii, Arizona … the Equator. Some place where my fingers could thaw out! Really, it would be exciting to see Germany or possibly even Israel.” – Mark Bohnett, Kinship Chief Engineer If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “I would return to the mountains of the West, particularly Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. When my wife and I were called to KJYL, and Iowa, several years ago, I had prayed that God would send us somewhere with beautiful mountains, as I absolutely love the mountains. So, we ended up in some of the flattest land around; and, who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor!” – Jay Rudolph News Director 6 KJYL I’m sure we’re all thankful to have made it through another winter – and what a harsh winter it was across our region! Those of us at KJYL can attest firsthand to the bitter winter weather, as it wreaked havoc with our “KJYL 20th Anniversary Listeners’ Party” at Twin Lakes Christian Center near Manson, IA. The event on March 1st had limited attendance thanks to falling and blowing snow that reduced visibility and created treacherous travel conditions. Nonetheless, those who made it enjoyed a wonderful lunch, fun activities, and an uplifting time of worship and music with Sarah Reeves. As KJYL turned “20” on February 20th of this year, I reflected on-air about some of the history of how this ministry came to be and how God brought many people from across the region together with the vision and passion to establish a light of the Gospel through Christian radio in north-central Iowa. Our thanks go out to all those who were there at the beginning as well as to all who continue to sustain and support this ministry today! As we look towards spring and beyond, we are planning to take part in the Eagle Grove citywide garage sales on April 12th where we will host a sale at the station with proceeds supporting KJYL and a few other regional ministries. We are also beginning to plan our summer schedule of area parades that KJYL will participate in… so now would be a great time to touch base with us if you would like us to consider being a part of your community festivals or event. Later this summer and fall, we are planning for some ice cream socials and outreach events with music and fellowship at a couple area parks as well as the possibility of our annual “Reveal” Seminar. We certainly hope to see you at one (or all!) of these exciting events as we help more people discover the Word and love of Christ through KJYL Christian radio! BY KJYL OPERATIONS MANAGER JAY RUDOLPH Can you believe it?....KJYL is 20 years old! In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of broadcast ministry to North Central Iowa, KJYL listeners were joined by KJYL staff and family for the KJYL “Listenerʼs Party” on March 1st at Twin Lakes Christian Center near Manson. National Christian recording artist Sarah Reeves and husband Philip leading music at the recent KJYL “20th Anniversary Listenerʼs Party” luncheon “If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” Translators Need Some Love, Too! One of the blessings that the Lord has added to the Kinship Christian Radio ministry are the 12 “Translator” stations located across Southern MN and Northern IA. Strategically placed, these smaller versions of their larger, full power sister-stations help extend the 24-hour ministry of Kinship Christian Radio across hundreds of miles and into the hearts and homes of tens of thousands of potential listeners. While these “Translators” expenses are much less than their larger sister-stations, they do require a regular infusion of cash to meet monthly expenses for tower rent, electricity, insurance and…because all things eventually break down…equipment and transmitter repair and replacement. Are you blessed to hear Kinship Christian Radio through one of the Translators? Your extra gift dedicated to the expenses of your translator would mean a lot to the overall financial health of the Kinship Christian Radio ministry. Just put the word “Translator” in the memo line of your check or when you give to the ministry on-line. (P.S. Like all gifts to Kinship Christian Radio, your financial donations in support of a Translator are fully tax deductible.) NEWS FROM Rochester 105.7 Blooming Prairie/Austin 98.3 Forest City area 94.7 Mankato 107.1 Mason City 92.5 New Ulm 104.9 Newell 96.3 Albert Lea - Northwood 102.1 Owatonna 93.5 Morgan 92.3 St. Peter 97.9 Burt/Bancroft 107.9 “Since becoming a believer early in my adult life, I really would like to go to the Holy Land… I would love to walk the path that Jesus walked to Calvary.” –Beth Erdman, KJLY Secretary “If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “I would choose to take my summer vacation in Italy. Some of the stops I would make would be Tuscany, Rome, Naples, and Genoa. It would be a leisurely enough vacation that if something looked intriguing, I would have plenty of time to stop anywhere I wanted. I would love to see the architecture, vineyards, and the beautiful landscapes.” – Tracy Jones, MICB Senior Bookkeeper If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “My dream vacation would be to take a road trip with my husband to visit the 25 states I haven’t been to yet. I am especially looking forward to visiting Washington and Oregon.” – Jennifer Agnew, KJYL Office Manager 3 Springtime KJIA News and Notes! By Bev Cother KJIA Secretary By Matt Dorfner A common comment from those who have visited the KJLY studio site in Blue Earth is “beautiful”. Set on a tract of almost 50 acres that borders Interstate 90, the land includes old growth Oak trees, a park like environment and native habitat bottom lands close to the Blue Earth river. One of our developing dreams over the past number of years has been the concept of developing a "Prayerwalk" walking path along the perimeter of this tract of land. The concept of this plan would be to develop and maintain a walking path...perhaps 5 feet wide....with a number of prayer and reflection "stations" along the way. Each station would have a resting bench and with some type of monument or signage listing a different devotional or prayer focus. The ultimate goal would be to eventually have an approximately two mile meandering Prayerwalk path established and invite individuals, churches, families and groups to come to the KJLY studio site and “Prayerwalk” the path in the summer and, perhaps, Cross-County ski the path in the winter. We might even give this Prayerwalk a focus...maybe the "Revival Walk" (praying for revival in our region). Depending upon response, this would likely be a multi-year plan with perhaps 500 or 1000 yards established each year. Our hope is to see if we can interest menʼs ministry groups, churches, youth groups and individuals to “adopt” a 500 yard section and do the physical work of brush cutting, trail establishment and prayer station construction. As you can see, we are just in the very early development stage with this plan and would love to hear your thoughts. As you have some suggestions, by all means, please call Matt Dorfner at 507-526-3233 or email MattD@newmail.kinshipradio.org or Prayerline Coordinator Sheri Wegner at SheriW@newmail.kinshipradio.org. And, of course, thanks for your prayers for this developing effort! “If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “I would choose to travel to Europe – specifically Norway, Denmark and England. My genealogy traces back to those three countries and I would love to learn more about my family’s history.” – Beth Crosby, Kinship Announcer If time and money were no object – where would you choose to vacation this summer?” “I have wanted to go to Norway ever since I was a child watching my dad’s slide shows from his time spent with relatives there. I would love to spend a couple weeks this summer reveling in the beauty of Norway, the Netherlands (for my husband’s sake) and a few other European countries.” – Beth Siebrands, MICB Assistant Bookkeeper SPECIAL THANKS KJLY is sporting this sharp new studio sign thanks in large measure to the generosity of Dale Person of Burt. Dale provided a significant gift in loving memory of his wife, Melanie, who was an avid listener and supporter of the KJLY ministry. A special thanks to Dale and the handful of additional KJLY partners who helped make this beautiful sign possible! By the way, we have a number of exciting special projects in need of financial partnership. If you would like more details on the project needing support at your local Kinship Christian Radio station, thanks for contacting Matt Dorfner at MattD@newmail.kinshipradio.org. 4 Did you know that KJIA has something for every member of the family? From Farm News and markets to teachings from David Jeremiah with “Turning Point”, “Focus on the Family” with Jim Daly and“Family Life Today” with Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine. And we don’t forget the children either as KJIA has over two hours of music and programs every Saturday morning beginning at 8 AM that will help you lead your kids in the right direction. In fact, you may want to listen in with them…as you do, we’re confident you, too, will become a regular listener to the KJIA Saturday Morning “Kids Club”. We were excited to be able to take this love and KJIA emphasis on strengthening families to the recent “Family Fest” in Spencer on March 8th. Another fun family event being planned is the KJIA spring picnic at Gull Point State Park on West Lake Okoboji on Tuesday, May 20th. Kinship Christian Radio and KJIA Board President, Gene Stallkamp, will be putting his considerable Barbequing expertise (yum!) on display so be sure to watch for more details on the free picnic at www.KJIAradio.com. Of course, all of our KJIA events and activities would simply not be possible without our wonderful volunteers and “Ambassadors” from the communities of Lake Park, Estherville, Terril, Milford, Spirit Lake, Worthington and Jackson. We would love to have you join us (at a level of involvement that fits your schedule and personality) to help more people discover the blessing of KJIA Christian radio at 88.9 FM. If you are interested in finding out more about the volunteer opportunities available, call the KJIA office in Spirit Lake at 712-332-2428 or email LynetteD@newmail.kinshipradio.org. You and every member of the KJIA family of listeners are important to us and we thank you for your generous support through prayer, words of encouragement, time and financial gifts! KJIA staff, Bev Cother and KJIA Volunteer, Audrey Vanderhoff ready to greet families at “Family Fest” in Spencer on March 8th. KJIA Ambassadors, Jan Bowles and Judy McQuown engaging with children at the recent Spencer, Iowa “Family Fest”. One Truth - Two Languages English AND Spanish! The praises and invitation of our God will soon be heard in both languages as our long planned Kinship Christian Radio “en Espanol” format is about to begin broadcasting. You may recall that it was a couple years ago here in the “Kinship Journal” where we first mentioned that the Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting Board of Directors had authorized the development of a Spanish language version of Kinship Christian radio. Our plan remains to begin the Spanish broadcast in a very modest way as we present it in areas where we currently have redundant English versions of Kinship Christian radio. Our first step in this direction will be to share the new all-Spanish broadcast on KJTS in the New Ulm area at 88.3 FM. (New Ulm area listeners will still be able to hear the English version of KJLY at either 104.5 FM or 104.9 FM.) Our second step will be to convert the current Mankato area translator at 107.1 FM to the Spanish broadcast. (Of course, all Mankato area listeners will still be able to hear KJLY in English at 104.5 FM.) By Matt Dorfner, Executive Director Further expansion of the Spanish broadcast ministry will depend on if and where the Lord might open doors to additional Translators or full power stations. In the natural, locating and being able to acquire additional stations for the Spanish broadcast is a big “if”. Still, we are really excited to see what the Lord might choose to do as we step out in faith to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our Spanish speaking brothers and sisters. As you might expect, this exciting development has required a significant financial investment. However, as we all know, it you don’t plant the seed, there will be no harvest. Would you like to join in this fledgling effort of presenting the truth of Jesus Christ in Spanish? As you feel led by the Lord, your financial gift to the Spanish ministry would be greatly (!) appreciated. (Simply put “Spanish Gospel Ministry” in the memo line of your check.) Thanks, too, for praying for this fresh effort as we present One Truth in Two languages! 5
