February - Unity Santa Maria
February 2015 Pastoral Word Friends, The 15th of February marks the completion of my sixth year at Unity Chapel of Light. Time brings change. One of the big changes for me recently is that, as I’m writing this, my mother made her transition earlier Pastor Brian Walker this week. She was unquestionably the person who had the most impact on my life. Even though she was 97 years old and under the care of Hospice, I was still shocked at the time of her passing. God bless you, mom, your spirit still lives in my heart. The February Beacon is the first one that we’ve done since completing our survey and we are sending out more digital copies and fewer hard copies. If you’re reading this and you aren’t receiving a hard copy, which you’d like to get, please let us know. Or if you’d prefer to switch to receiving a digital copy, please let us know that as well. Our goal is to get the newsletter to everyone who wants one in the form that you’d prefer. By sending out more digital copies we are saving significantly. At this time I also find myself reflecting on the volunteers in the church who have stepped up to make our spiritual community operate effectively and efficiently. There are so many people who could be identified and thanked. (And I do thank you all). But this month I’d like to focus on those who are volunteering in the office and with our on-line activity. Sharon Allen continues to work so hard to keep our books in order. She also works closely with Rev Suzan Williams, who is volunteering on Tuesday and is instrumental in completing the actual financial transactions. We have several others who volunteer in the office. Diane Grey comes in for two hours on Friday. Joe and Jane Furcinite volunteer for a couple of hours on Monday. Joe also takes care of our website, calendar, and newsletter (in addition to now doing the sound on Sunday morning). What a blessing that each of you are. Thank you all so much. I feel so blessed to have been able to be a part of the Unity Chapel of Light for the past six years. Thank you all for the amazing love and support. One in Spirit, Pastor Brian Refreshments and Flowers On Sunday Morning Are you looking for an easy way to contribute and make a difference in 2015? Sign up in the activity center to bring refreshments on a Sunday Morning. Just write your name in under a date and also if you would like to bring a vegetable plate, a fruit selection or a sweet treat. All money earned from refreshments are used to fund Unity’s outreach to the homeless shelter. Thus, you are feeding more than meets the eye. Also, is there a special date in your life that you would like to remember with flowers? Sign up to commemorate this date on a Sunday Morning and brighten the sanctuary and spirits with your gift. We can make a difference in small ways every day and here are two ideas that will truly brighten lives. As always, thank you everyone for your loving generosity. In the home of Doris Oaks, 7-9 PM 4299 Greentreen Ln, Orcutt CA 805-720-1061 In 1972 Dean Kraft was an average guy, unsure of what to do with his life--until a string of strange events occurred, and a new path unfolded before his disbelieving eyes. It began with a series of unexpected and unexplained incidents, culminating in an astonishing revelation: Dean possessed the power to heal with his hands. He healed strangers first, acting more out of instinct than conscious decision. He felt compelled to reach out, to touch, to ease suffering. Word of his incredible ability spread, first to neighbors and friends, then to doctors and the media. His practice grew, and in time his list of clients came to include celebrities such as Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Ethel Merman, and Frank Zappa. Over the years, Dean has continued to heal, often bringing life and hope to those who have exhausted the efforts of contemporary medicine. He has encountered believers and skeptics alike, at times struggling with a skepticism of his own. The subject of numerous scientific studies, time and again he has demonstrated abilities beyond the scope of scientific explanation. In the most fascinating study, by Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and repeated by The Science Unlimited Research Foundation, Dean was repeatedly able to kill deadly HeLa cancer cells, sealed in glass flasks, simply by holding the flasks in his hands. Authenticated by scientific testing and duplicated by no one else, these studies and tests led Dean to share his story and his knowledge with others. A Touch of Hope chronicles the life of this remarkable man and reveals his powerful laying-on-of-hands techniques. Included in the book are the most commonly asked questions about Dean Kraft's work and other healing methods; a blue print to help readers heal themselves; and an illustrated series of exercises for those who want to learn his healing methods. “Save the date! As people come in they are invited to make valentines or heart decorations. They will be served an Italian pasta lunch, including bread, salad and dessert. After everyone is settled with their food, people will read original or favorite poems about love. Then we will go to the other room for a session of Karaoke and group singing. The Choir will provide the food, but they will be singing that day so Michael Corob is looking for volunteers to help set up the food. He also needs people who would like to clean up instead of doing Karaoke. Michael is also inviting people to donate used valentines so they can be cut up and used again. The cost of the lunch has yet to be determined, but the proceeds will help the choir purchase new microphones. ness.” The focus for prayer and meditation in Spiritual Healing is not on the condition but on the Truth of our wholeness. Movie of the Month — Feb 8, 1:30 PM What is time? How does time on earth differ from time on the “other side”? Do the Akashic Records, also known as “The Book of Life,” contain experiences that have not yet occurred in our lifetime? Do we receive insight on this from our dreams? Do our past lives, present life, and future lives all occur at the same time, right now? If so, can you change your past to make a better future? The answers to these questions on this fascinating topic are fully explored in a straightforward and easy-to-understand manner with insight and humor by Kevin J. Todeschi , A.R.E.’s CEO, one of our most popular speakers, and an acknowledged expert on the Cayce readings and the subject of the Akashic Records.
