Go to the Max, we continue our voyage into the
heart of Faymonville. Here you will discover
our 2-axle Megamax, a versatile solution suited to special loads. Worth a look !
Also worth mentioning are the two new products : the
modular Telemax and a semi-trailer dedicated to the transport of load-lifting equipment.
In addition, you will see that the company is pursuing its
policy of European development with the creation of Faymonville UK, the continuation of work in Grand Duchy of
Luxembourg and the strengthening of its presence in Spain.
Another key event in the life of Faymonville is the creation
of a company dedicated to financing. An important step
that underscores the will of the group to offer itself as a single point of contact for the client.
To serve you better.

The word “ Megamax ” hides a particularly
large family. Available in 1 to 5-axle configurations, this semi-trailer can receive a multitude of beds. It is offered in two widths
(2.55 m or 2.75 m), two types of suspension
(pneumatic or hydraulic), various goosenecks
and axle types. That is why, rather than spread
ourselves thin, we would like to present to you
one member (and its variants) of this Megamax constellation, a particularly bearing and
representative one : the 2-axle.
The launch of this type of ultra-light-low-bed
trailer goes back to 1993. At the time, a
Danish client needed this kind of 2-axle semitrailer extendable with a removable gooseneck for transporting combine harvesters. A
manufacturer had built one for him with a tare
weight of 16t. However, to do his work strictly within the law, this carrier could not exceed
13.5 t. That is why he solicited Faymonville
which, in designing an ultralight gooseneck,
was able to lower the semi’s tare weight to
11.7 t.
Ultra Rapide Wagner has resolutely opted for the 2-axle Megamax.
Steel and axles
From this first experiment, the 2-axle Megamax really hit the jackpot. The key to its success : the use of steel with a high limit of
elasticity. A material that offers a tare weight
that releases a payload that is nearly equal
to that of a 3-axle trailer made of ordinary
steel.
“ In addition, adds Arnold Luxen, sales manager at Faymonville, limiting oneself
to 2 axles allows to remain within the
unextended 16.5m limit. This vehicle can therefore travel throughout Europe without special
permits. Clients are receptive to this kind of
initiative, as shown for example by the tank
Van de Wetering transports ships throughout
Europe, thanks to its Megamax.

carrier version that we sell in large quantities
throughout Europe. With its outer frameconstruction double extendable until 15 m in
the lowbed, it shows a versatility that is further increased by outriggers, aluminum
ramps or an ultralight removable gooseneck.
That makes it the ideal tool for transporting
civil engineering equipment, agricultural
machinery, boats, tanks and vessels.”
The basic version of the 2-axle Megamax
(Mega-Z2LAA) has a tare weight of
10,500 kg, hence a payload of 27,500 kg.
The model with the hydraulically lift- and
lowerable gooseneck only increases the tare
weight by about 300 kg, which is all the more
appreciated given that the outer frameconstruction is maintained. This configuration
allows the ground clearance to be increased
for boarding ferries, entering construction sites
or passing railroad crossings. In addition, the
design of the gooseneck includes an opening

at the rear, allowing a gain of about 1 m of
loading space for clearing the keel of a boat
or the cone of a tank, for example.
According to need
There are other variants : the Megamax with
removable gooseneck (MEGA-Z2LVA). The latter is equipped with an 8 m bed with 5.5 m
extension. A length that allows it to load
40’ cargo containers and to also be suited to
the transport of tanks or metallic assemblies
in particular. Its tare weight of 12.5 t gives it
a payload of 26 t. The loading height is also
attractive : 450 mm. Its variant with a 5.7 m
bed can ply the roads of Europe without special authorisation. A product which has
aroused strong interest in the Belgian company “ Ultra Rapide Wagner ”(see box).
The 2-axle Megamax thus develops solid arguments for those who can be satisfied with its
capacity.
In addition to what has already been mentioned, the carrier will appreciate the fact that
a 2-axle has a longer lowbed than a 3-axle
with the same total length. It requires less
maintenance, is more manoeuvrable and costs
less. Worth thinking about.
MODULMAX
The Modulmax concept offers
the possibility of assembling modules of 2, 3, 4, 5
and 6 lines of axles. A solution that makes it possible to
cater for loads of up to 250 tonnes.
ULTRA RAPIDE WAGNER
AN ULTRA-RATIONAL CHOICE
Toward the end of this coming November, Ultra Rapide Wagner (Gosselies) will
have taken delivery of ten 2-axle ultralight-low-bed trailers. Vehicles with 5.7m
beds which shelter them under the unextended 16.5 m legal limit. The choice of
Megamax is also explained by other
intrinsic qualities. Gérard Waroquet, technical director of Ultra Rapide Wagner :
“These Faymonville semi-trailers are lighter
than the 2-axles of another brand that we
formerly used and can be pulled by
2-axle tractors. In addition, their extendable bed allows us to haul, besides a
whole range of Cat machines, combine
harvesters, which was not the case with
the former models. The gooseneck,
equipped with a support for positioning
the cutter bar longitudinally, contributes
strongly to the effectiveness of these semitrailers. “
Ultra Rapide Wagner has been working
with Faymonville brand equipment for
more than 10 years. These new acquisitions are a testimonial to the satisfaction
of the client, both with the products and
with the service provided by the manufacturer.

Here one finds the departments of administration, sales, accounts, spare parts and sales
offices offering semi-trailers from Faymonville,
Schmitz Cargobull, used utility vehicles and
public works machinery (Furukawa, Vibromax, etc.). Their facilities also include a spacious workshop and an outdoor show lot of
some 7,000 m2, where they display all types
of vehicles and semi-trailers. And the fact that
these are visible to users of Highway N-232,
where goods traffic is very dense, prompts
potential customers interested in vehicles of all
types to visit them.
This circumstance could be termed strategic,
given that they are located in Zaragoza, a
city of more than 600,000 inhabitants midway between Madrid and Barcelona, and
where companies related to automotion and
transport are the most significant financial
sector and the driving force behind the entire
region.
Faymonville’s offerings are available in Spain with the same
level of service as in Belgium.
The sole importer
Since 2000, COA, S.L. has been the sole
importer of Faymonville special semi-trailers
for Spain. “Commercialising the make has
been a major step for our company, as has
been Faymonville’s own commitment to enter
the Spanish market in such a decisive way.
Both of us have in mind a very specific sort of
customer, one who is looking for a quality
semi-trailer, for a good work performance

It was in the air. Not a day passed without
an inquiry reaching Faymonville concerning the
letting of a finance contract for towed equipment, whether new or used.
Financing à la carte
The Faymonville Group therefore decided to
provide a new service to its customers : a complete financing service. To carry out this mission, it obtained the services of Francis Dethier,
a finance pro who spent the last fifteen years
in the banking world. Go to the Max met with
the one who will be called upon to furnish you
a “ home grown ” solution to your financing
needs. “Offering financing solutions was an
obvious step, explains Francis Dethier. At Faymonville, we are perfectly familiar with the
equipment that we produce and its life cycle.
We know the needs of our clients and we have
even mastered the re-use channel for secondhand equipment thanks to WTS. We are positioning ourselves as privileged contacts for all
that relates to our customers’ towed equipment, from design to maintenance and including financing, no matter what mode is chosen.”
By creating “ Faymonville Lease ”, the Faymonville Group is positioning itself as a single point of contact providing professional
one-stop shopping, complementing its traditional manufacturing activities with a position
traditionally reserved for the banker.
From December 2001 on, Faymonville will be
able to offer you all types of leasing, financial (full or non-full payout) or operational. To
guide your choice among the various formulas,
“ Faymonville Lease ” will evaluate with you the
utilisation of the investment, fiscal factors, availability or absence of investment assistance,
treasury cycles… so as to furnish you not only
the vehicle best adapted to your needs, but
also adequate financing.
Francis Dethier, 36,
takes on the challenge
of financing for the
Faymonville Group.
Start of business :
December 2001.
A MATTER OF STATE
OF BUSINESS
The situation is not really good in terms of
obtaining financing. With mergers taking
place, especially in banking, there are fewer
and fewer providers on the market and it
is difficult to bring competition into play. In
addition, among banks, some are
reorienting their activities by reducing or
eliminating “ corporate ” business. In short,
credit is becoming scarce. What is more,
the transportation sector is not always effective in its relations with banking service suppliers. With its financial solution, Faymonville
guarantees you close attention and
solutions perfectly matched to your needs.

F AY M O N V I L L E
HAS LAUNCHED
A REVOLUTIONARY
PRODUCT
TWO
:
4-AXLE TELEMAX
CAN BE TRANSFORMED
INTO ONE
AND ONE
3-AXLE
5-AXLE.
It is at the request of the German carrier Gutmann (Schütterwald) that Faymonville has
developed this product. Specialised in exceptional loads, this client needed, for most of his
transport jobs, double extendable (until 29 m)
4-axle semi-trailer and occasionally with
5-axle capacity.
To resolve this problem, Faymonville started
with two double extendable Telemax with four
axles each. One was modified to allow it to
be relieved of its front axle (with the turning
table for steering) and the other to receive this
axle ahead of its first axle. This allows a
5- and a 3-axle trailer to be configured, both
roadworthy. The conversion takes half an hour
and can be carried out by one man alone.
The technical capacity (gross weight) of the
5-axle is 85 t , that of the 4-axle is 73 t and that
of the 3-axle, 61 t. Their respective tare
weights are 14.5t, 13.1 t and 11.7 t. Along
with this assembly, Faymonville supplies the
kit that takes up the site left vacant by the axle
removed from one of the two Telemax.
This revolutionary modular invention demonstrates the capacity of Faymonville to adapt
to very specific demands and to always seek
to evolve by innovative concepts.
With 3, 4 or 5 axles, these Telemax adapt to
the needs of the exceptional-load carrier.

TO LOAD THE LIFTING
PLATFORM ?
The best way
Rentals of lifting platforms (scissor lifts, articulated access platforms,…) have exploded in
recent years. To allow the transport of these
platforms, Faymonville has developed a special
vehicle: a semi-trailer that allows loading over
the gooseneck without handling detachable
ramps.
SEMI-TRAILER
Transferring an axle from one Telemax to
the other takes about 30 minutes.
In order to guarantee optimal, simple, safe
and quick loading of these small machines
with little ground clearance (30 mm for some),
Faymonville installed a 3,000 mm long by
2,550 mm wide integral hydraulic lifting
platform. The angle of inclination is thus considerably reduced and the entire width of the
semi-trailer is available for loading. In short,
there is no comparison with the aluminium
ramps usually employed.
At the back of this 2- or 3-axle semi-trailer,
Faymonville opted for a double, hydraulically
operated ramp; ramps designed to always be
fully extended before touching the ground.
Extended in width hydraulically, they are avail-
able in two widths. The 850 mm ones have
a space left between them for the lifting arm of
an articulated access platform; the 1,250 mm
ones cover the entire width of the vehicle.
The double flip ramps are extended in width hydraulically.

Until August 1999, the production process at
Faymonville included a break in the production line required for the run through the
steelblasting booth. Once the welding was
finished, the chassis were taken to another
building, where a workman proceeded to
manually steelblast the steel structure. This
represented a full day of demanding and
laborious work, considering that some corners in the chassis are especially difficult to
reach. Once steelblasting was completed,
the semi-trailer resumed its place in the production line.
Metallic abrasion
In August 1999, the Faymonville Group
decided to purchase a USF Schlick shot
blast machine. Faymonville thus
became the first special semi-trailer
manufacturer to include a machine of
this type in its production line.
The Schlick shot blast machine
is capable of receiving a
structure 3 meters wide and
2 meters tall (Faymonville’s
maximum production dimensions), and this directly on
the production line. No need
any more to transfer the welded chassis to a steelblasting
booth and to return it to the
production line to complete
the process. Thanks to its 12
wheels propelling tiny 0.6 to
0.8 mm steel shot, the most
inaccessible corners are
subjected to the abrasive
action of the shot blast machine. The shot is
then recovered for reuse.
In addition to the quality of the work, the
time saving is nothing less than breathtaking : feed rate for the shot-blasting of a semitrailer varies between 0.35 and 2 meters
per minute. Thus the shot-blast machine carries out the blasting of a semi-trailer in an
average of 20 minutes, while a man
equipped with a manual steelblaster would
carry out the same work in an entire day in
a steelblasting booth.
As for working conditions, the operator of
the shot-blast machine has a more agreeable and safer job than in the past.
Faster work, perfect blasting results, safer
and more agreeable working conditions :
the shot blast machine proves its usefulness
every day.

the great projects of Faymonville for the year
2002.
To remind you, this new installation will be
charged with producing semi-trailers with
steered axles and self-tracking axles, inloaders
for glass transport and inloaders for the transport of precast concrete elements.
The project is coming along well and we are
