In some of the Lenten worship services centuries ago, the sentence was used in liturgy, “Repent and believe the Gospel”. Boynton United Methodist Church 4246 Boynton Drive RINGGOLD GA 30736 I am reading through the Bible using an annual plan that our Bishop has promoted some years ago. It is a ‘straight-read-through,’ about three chapters a day, basically. For the last several weeks I’ve read through Leviticus and now I am about to finish the book of Numbers. There’s a lot of material about animal sacrifices for the forgiveness of sin in these chapters. The point is driven home that the ancient Israelites considered this to be serious business. It is. Compare this to how superficially we sometimes treat ‘sin’ and ‘repentance.’ Someone might say or think: Don’t worry too much about it. Go ahead and do it, and just pray for forgiveness at the end of the day. God knows when repentance is real or not. It is more than being sorry that you got caught, or might get caught (by God). It is remorse over the act/attitude; and most important, it is a genuine decision to quit the sin. We need to be in a state of repentance when we ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness is wonderful. We rejoice when others choose to profess Jesus as their Lord and Savior. They are forgiven and they are in relationship with Christ which includes eternal life. They are changed people whom God uses to change the world. It was such a time of celebration when nine young people in our church choose Christ, and were confirmed several weeks ago. Trusting Jesus and following His path is awesome. Use the Season of Lent to do some serious repenting. There may be some areas we don’t want to think about. But if we do, and end up doing some real repentance, along with receiving forgiveness we will come into some of that abundant life Jesus spoke of. Wednesdays 5:00 p.m. The Stephen Ministers and Stephen Leaders benefit. Although they participate in this ministry out of a desire to serve and care for others, they encounter tremendous growth themselves. Because of confidentiality they cannot tell you who their care receivers were or what happened, but they can tell you how much they have grown, personally and spiritually, be seeing Jesus work through them to change the life of another person. Room Across from the Nursery We pack over 100 sacks of food every week to be distributed to students in need at Boynton Elementary School, Heritage Middle School and the Performance Learning Center. Thanks to generous contributions from several people, BLESS (Building Lives: Every Snack Sack) is fully funded for this school year.
