Ship Shape Councillors
The Royal Australian Navy helped four Councillors to get
ship shape, thanks to two surprise workouts during August.
A squad from HMAS Cerberus (Rogers Division) led by
CPOCSM Kennith O’Connor helped make Mayor Bill
Saravinovski, Deputy Mayor James Macdonald, Councillor
Lesa de Leau and Councillor Shane O’Brien a little fitter
than they were before.
The Mayor and Councillors entered into the spirit of the
training which utilised the exercise equipment Council
installed for the community’s use along Lady Robinsons
Beach. Councillor O’Brien used his training session as
preparation for the City2Surf and has since put what he
learned into his regular exercise routine.
Change has already been made, “instead of ordering two
burgers today I’ll only order one”, the Mayor said.
Whether you are training for the City2Surf or completing a
basic exercise routine, Council is encouraging the Rockdale
City community to come and use any one of the four
exercise stations installed along Lady Robinsons Beach. The
equipment is free to use 24 hours every day. It takes only
30 minutes a day to make a difference.
I am proud of our City. So many good things are going
on right now. Council celebrated the best in business
across our City at the 2011 Business Excellence Awards.
I am proud to have shared a night with some of the
many business owners in our City who are so passionate
and work so hard to make this City a better place.
My congratulations go to all.
Recently three Councillors and I had some combined
exercise sessions with a squad from the Royal Australian
Navy’s HMAS Cerberus - Rogers Division. We used the
Council-installed exercise equipment on Lady Robinsons
Beach, which is available to everyone to use free of charge.
The training sessions were captured on video and you can
view them on Council’s website. I have awarded a Mayoral
Certificate of Recognition to the Navy squad for their
involvement in promoting better fitness in our community.
Council staff have been working hard to make the City
look its best. Over the next few months there are many
reasons to enjoy our City: get ‘On Ya Bike’ for Bike Week
at Peter Depena Reserve, enjoy Food ‘n’ Groove at Bexley
Park in October, take part in Local Harvest and coming in
December is Carols By the Sea. With Spring now here, the
City of Rockdale continues to shine.
Councillor Bill Saravinovski, Mayor
Spring Into the Rockdale
Community Nursery
Spring is the time to colour your garden. The Rockdale
Community Nursery is holding a ‘potted colour’ sale,
10 pots for $10 (September only). Start a herb garden this
spring with herbs available from $1.50.
Keep an eye on the St George & Sutherland Shire Leader
this month for nursery specials.
On Ya Bike!
Local
Riders
Day
The Nursery is located at 41 Beach Street Kogarah, open
Monday to Friday 7:30am - 3:45pm, Saturday 9am - 2pm.
Get ‘on ya bike’ and ride along to a celebration of bike
week at Peter Depena Reserve, Dolls Point hosted by
Rockdale City Council and Kogarah City Council.
On Friday 26 August, the Best in Business shone at
The Grand Roxy, Brighton Le Sands during the 2011
Business Excellence Awards presented by Council.
Mayor Bill Saravinovski spoke about the need to
support our local businesses: “I am passionate about
small business because they are the heart and soul of
our City”.
The Mayor also acknowledged the way businesses
are supporting our City economically: “Businesses in
the City of Rockdale are major employers and are
creating job opportunities in the area for residents.
The Business Excellence Award recipients show the
diversity of business across our City.”
