PALM SUNDAY
BOSTON, MA
Good Friday’s Collection for the Holy Land is,
in the words of Paul VI, “not only for the Holy
Places but above all for those pastoral, charitable,
educational, and social works which the Church
supports in the Holy Land for the welfare of their
Christian brethren and of the local communities.”
Next week, at all our Easter Masses, our only
collection will be to support the retirement, medical
and financial needs of priests of the Archdiocese of
Boston. On behalf of all of our priests, thank you
in advance for your generosity. For more information, please visit www.clergyfunds.org
Cathedral Cares about your
Health March is National
Kidney Month and the NKF
is urging all Americans to give
their kidneys a second thought
and a well-deserved checkup.
Kidneys filter 200 liters of
blood a day, help regulate
blood pressure and direct red
blood cell production. But they
are also prone to disease; 1 in 3 Americans is at
risk for kidney disease due to diabetes, high
blood pressure or a family history of kidney
failure. Ther e ar e mor e than 26 million Amer icans who already have kidney disease, and most
don’t know it because there are often no symptoms
until the disease has progressed. About The Kidneys: The kidneys are two, fist-sized organs in
your lower back. They maintain overall health
through the following functions: Filtering waste
out of 200 liters of blood each day. Regulating of
the body's salt, potassium and acid content. Removing of drugs from the body .Balancing
the body's fluids. Releasing hormones that regulate blood pressure. Producing an active form of
vitamin D that promotes strong, healthy
bones. Controlling the production of red blood
cells. Quick Facts on Kidney Disease: Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the country. More than 26 million Americans have kidney
disease, and most don’t know it There are over
95,000 people waiting for kidney transplants. More
than 590,000 people have kidney failure in the US
today.
Prescription for Kidney Health Five pr inciples
should be followed by everyone with diabetes to
help prevent and treat kidney problems: Tight control of blood glucose levels (A1C less than 7 percent) Tight control of blood pressure: aim for lower
than 130/80 Control of lipids: LDL (“bad”) cholesterol should be less than 100 mg/dl, HDL (“good”)
cholesterol should be above 50 mg/dl and triglycerides should be less than 150 mg/dl No cigarette
smoking Blood pressure-lowering drugs, such as
ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers
(ARBs), are effective in protecting the kidney from
damage if you have signs of diabetic kidney disease.

THANK YOU to all who contr ibuted to the success of the Cathedral Baby Shower held on February 27 and 28, 2016. This annual event supports
the work of Pregnancy Help, the archdiocesan ministry assisting needy mothers and their babies. Donations included $955 in cash and 66 items of baby
clothing, bedding, packs of diapers, and baby care
necessities. It is through your generosity, moved by
the Holy Spirit, that the truth of the pro-life message reveals itself and changes hearts and minds.
