Jim Brulte served 14 years in the California State Legislature, most recently as Senate Republican Leader, and then left office to join California Strategies, LLC. During his time in office he developed a national reputation as a dynamic leader, and prior to the election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, was described as “arguably the most powerful elected Republican in California.” When Jim Brulte ran for California Republican Party Chairman, he campaigned on three issues and he has met these goals: • Help maintain the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. • Eliminate the Democrat’s supermajority in the California Assembly. • Rebuild the Party from the ground up. In his presentation Chairman Brulte will outline what needs to be accomplished in reaching the goals he has set for these crucial months preceding Election 2016. • Are we up to the task of getting engaged for these challenges? • I believe we are - this is the leadership we have been waiting for! • Is this your time to say “YES”? Join us and be a part of the Republican Revival! I am so looking forward to seeing you and creating Commitments & Committees to make this happen! Thank You and God Bless America, Karen M. Page 2 “The Price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance.” - Thomas Jefferson Marin Republican Women, Federated Co-President’s Report This week, in an interview with a journalist from a popular website, Obama was asked about terrorism. “In his answer the president said the terrorism threat is overrated.” “. . . Obama referred to the jihadists who committed last month’s massacres in Paris as ‘a bunch of violent vicious zealots,’ who ‘randomly shot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris.’” As far as he is concerned, “. . . the massacre of four Jews at the market can teach us nothing about anything other than that some random people are mean and some random people are unlucky.” “. . . Obama’s statement about the massacre of Jews in Paris is notable for what it reveals about his comfort level with anti-Semitism.” “. . . Today, the most outstanding example of his anti-Semitic behavior is to diminish U.S. support for Israel is his campaign to delegitimize Prime Minister Netanyahu ahead of his scheduled speech before the joint houses of Congress on March 3. As we belatedly learned from a small correction at the bottom of a New York Times article on January 30th, contrary to the White House’s claim, Netanyahu did not blindside Obama when he accepted Boehner’s invitation to address the Congress. He informed the White House of his intention to accept Boehner’s offer before he accepted it. Netanyahu did not breach White House protocol. He did not behave rudely or disrespectfully toward Obama.” “. . . Since the outset of his presidency, Obama has denied the connection between Islamism and terrorism and has mischaracterized jihad as peaceful self-reflection. Last week his denial of the Islamist nature of jihadist assaults worldwide rose to a new high when in his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast he compared today’s jihadists to the Crusaders from a thousand years ago.” “. . . And, at the same time that he is facilitating Iran’s emergence as a nuclear power, he is doing nothing to stop its regional empower- ment.” “. . . The trajectory of Obama’s policies is obvious. He is clearing the path for a nuclear armed Iran that will control large areas of the Arab world through its proxies.” When will the people of the United States of America wake up? Excerpted from The Jerusalem Post article by Caroline B. Glick dated 2/12/15. Get on the lists, call the project chair listed. VETERANS The San Francisco VA Hospital is happily accepting: lap blankets, books, DVDs, socks, shoes, clothing - especially warm things. The Veterans Home in Yountville seeks: boxed games, playing cards, puzzles, puzzle books (e.g.: crosswords), handkerchiefs, ball caps, and non-perishable snack foods like chips, soup cups, Vienna Sausages, candy, and popcorn. Both facilities can always use: stamps, stationery, toiletry items and hotel freebies especially. Donations can be brought to any of our meetings and are tax deductible if you include your name and address with the items. Questions? Please call Anne at 415-302-0330. Anne Brenneis, Veterans Project VOTER REGISTRATION It is hard to believe that April is right around the corner and that means we will be doing voter registration again. I am targeting April 11th and 18th for our spring time registration. Will you join me for a few hours at the Village Shopping Center in Corte Madera? I know Saturdays are precious to all of us, but it is important for us to be seen and heard. We have a prime spot at the Village. There are Republicans (Conservatives!) in Marin County and we need to meet with not only them but also disgruntled Democrats and Independents. The hours are 11am-2pm and 2pm-5pm each Saturday. You only need to sign up for one of those times, (unless you really love doing it!). I usually do the first Saturday morning but I always have the table ready to go the next Saturday morning. I look forward to hearing from you. Please call me or e-mail. I can be reached at 415-4922514 (home) or 415-686-7170 (cell). You can also e-mail me at bonniers81@comcast.net. I look forward to hearing from you. Bonnie Stevens, Voter Registration Project item. Their winning provided us with an enjoyable change of venue for our Friday evening. The food, as always, was great, as was the good cheer and conversation. We saw quite a range of talent on those bocce courts and a couple of unexpected “ringers” showed up that we did not know we had in our Club. The turnout was great and there was some good sporting from those of you who had never played the game. I think I need to practice a little if we do this again. Thanks to Bruce and Faye for their hospitality. Miriam and Jim Doody have been kind enough to offer their home in Mill Valley for the March 27th Satellite Club meeting. We hope to see many of you there. Contact me at janem222@comcast.net Invite, Involve, Inform. Jane Maushardt, Satellite Club Chair SHOOTING RANGE SIGN-UP On February 24th, five MRWF’s attended Women-OnTarget at the BULLSEYE Precision Indoor Range. IN MEMORIAM - Mary Jane Sargent Mary Jane Sargent, a long time member of Marin Republican Women Federated, passed away on February 2, 2015. Her health over the past few years prevented her from attending our events. She always enjoyed getting our phone calls and our newsletters. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/marinij/obituary. aspx?pid=174159269 MEMBERS BIRTHDAYS March birthday greetings to Members Judy Groesbeck, Bev Heinecke, Elinor Lacy, Judith Walker Weissman and Associate Donna Pfeiff. ~ Happy Birthday one and all! ~ Kathryn Thompson, Membership Chair MRWF SATELLITE CLUB LOOKING FOR WHITE ELEPHANTS What a great idea Faye and Bruce Bourret had in hosting the February Satellite Club meeting at Marin Bocce in San Rafael. The idea grew out of the auction item donated by Marin Bocce that was in our November Fashion Show Fund Raiser. The Bourrets were the lucky bidders on that Jewelry, Brick-a-Brack and other Household Items White Elephants (they must be Republican) - we will be collecting yours in May. Please box yours nicely and have them ready for our June luncheon sale. This will be fun for all! Visit us on the web at www.mrwf.org Page 4 “The Price of Liberty is Eternal Vigilance.” - Thomas Jefferson Marin Republican Women, Federated LEGISLATIVE REPORT News - National, California, and Internet By Andrea Widburg, MRWF Legislative Chair Date: 2/18/15 Having gone full Bulworth in 2015, and freed himself from the burden of the Constitution, Barack Obama has granted amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, an act that may give them the right to vote, to plug into Obamacare, and to obtain massive payouts from the IRS. Despite a majority in both houses, Republicans have not acted. In King v. Burwell, the Supreme Court will soon hear arguments that federal Obamacare exchanges are illegal under the law’s own terms. Obamacare supporters, having neither law nor fact, allege that, in 2014, the exchanges became so inextricably intertwined with insurance companies that the companies will be bankrupted if the Supreme Court interprets the law as written. In international affairs, Iran now controls directly or indirectly all states bordering the Persian Gulf, even as President Obama continues to lead from far, far behind. Obama has promised to veto congressional efforts to reinstate sanctions against Iran to stop the regime’s nuclear ambitions. He also wants to green light an agreement that brings Iran only one stop short of full nuclear weapon capacity. Concerned that Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before the House might upset these negotiations, the Obama administration falsely claimed that both House Speaker John Boehner and Netanyahu violated protocol. Arming Iran appears to be an important administration goal. Closer to home, California will host CNN’s second presidential debate this September, leading Republican Party Chairman Jim Brulte (Ret.) to issue a statement that this “is a testament to the role California will play in the upcoming 2016 election.” We can only hope that the RNC stands firmly against having Candy Crowley as the debate moderator. California’s Republican legislators are involved in bipartisan efforts to end the ongoing labor dispute with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Pacific Maritime Association. The West Coast labor dispute has lasted nine months and, if it continues, may cost retailers $7 billion in 2015. “Small businesses are an innocent bystander in the West Coast port shutdown,” said Assemblyman Marc Steinorth (R-Rancho Cucamonga). “Businesses in my district are already laying off employees because shipments are so severely delayed.” * * * * * News - California and Internet CFRW Capitol Update Prepared by Allison Olson, CFRW Legislative Advocate Date: 2/13/15 Democrat Priorities - This week the Legislative Democrats announced that they intend to dramatically expand Californian’s greenhouse gas reduction laws, with the support of Governor Brown. But here’s the kicker- Senate Democrat Leader Kevin DeLeon calls the legislative package of environmental measures a “jobs program.” The package of bills includes measures that will aim to cut our state’s petroleum usage in half by 2030 and expand the proportion of electricity use from solar and wind from one-third to one-half. The irony of calling this bills package a “jobs program” seems to be lost on Democrat leadership. Expanding AB 32 regulations will hurt the businesses that keep our state moving like our farmers in the Central Valley and utilities businesses all across the state. It only really helps “green energy” jobs that are most often found on our state’s coastal regions. Once these bills take shape, we have to do our best to defeat them! * * * * * Measels in Marin – Vaccination Exemptions - The legislation and controversy Prepared by Faye Bourret, Newsletter Editor On 2/15/15, this is a headline from Brietbart.com “New Vaccination Bill Prompts Some CA Pols to Reconsider.” The issue is personal beliefs versus public health. Keep your ears open to this topic in the next few months. Howard Dean, former Vermont Governor and DNC Chairman and now an occasional MSNBC guest, is entitled to consider himself an educated guy. He not only holds a Juris Doctorate in Medicine, but he earned it at an institution of stratospherically toney eponymy: the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Years of post-graduate study have endowed him with sufficient insight into human psychology that—instantly upon learning of the Charlie Hebdo massacre—he could diagnose the murderers’ religious mindset: “I stopped calling these people Muslim terrorists,” he said. “They’re about as Muslim as I am.” Having demonstrated such discernment only weeks ago, Dr. Dean surprised no one last week by voicing concern that presidential hopeful Governor Scott Walker dropped out of college without earning even an undergraduate degree. “Were he to become president,” Dean confided to a small-but-rapt MSNBC audience, “[Walker] would be the first president in many generations that [sic] did not have a college degree. I worry about people being President of the United States not knowing much about the world and not knowing much about science. ...He’s unknowledgeable.” I can understand Dr. Dean’s anxiety. Should the 2016 presidential race become Scott Walker’s twelfth consecutive election victory, there’s a whole bunch of knowledge he might not bring to the Presidency, knowledge that men like Howard Dean and Barack Obama learned by matriculating from great institutions of American academe. For example, I bet Walker doesn’t know that climate change is the greatest challenge of modern times. Or that one in five American women are victims of sexual assault. Or that racism prevalent in municipal police departments is the major cause of death among the nation’s young black men. Or that the Affordable Care Act is successfully reducing costs and increasing access to healthcare in America. Implications of Walker’s foreign policy ignorance are similarly striking. Lacking a Bachelor of Science in any discipline whatever, Walker might not know that global terrorism is unrelated to any particular religion. Or that Benjamin Netanyahu is a “chickens*** coward” whose aggression against Palestine accounts for Israel’s fragile national security. Or that a global jobs program will turn jihadists into gentlemen. Or that Iran can be trusted to confine its nuclear facilities and uranium enrichment programs to purely peaceful uses. As Obama continues to demonstrate to slack-jawed observers around the world, it takes higher education to know (as Ronald Reagan famously put it) “so many things that aren’t so.” Which is why, come 2016, America might be ready for a President with no B.S.
