MYS is participating in the… Hi, I am thrilled about a new Classic Elite Yarn called Song coming in July! When our sales representative Joan Looi showed it to me I shocked her because I yelled “Yes” right away. (I don’t think she was used to getting that much excitement out of me). Why is it so great? It is 50% cotton/50% wool with 110 yards/50 gram ball. It knits like a dk or light worsted and is a “wear next to your skin” yarn. I hope you like it as much as I do:) Happy knitting/crocheting! Knitting Classes Beginning Knitting During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $70/4 week class. Wed. Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting. You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row. The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle. This cardigan is sized up to a 24 month old and is knit in organic cotton from America’s Appalachian community. 12 - 2 p.m. 2 hour class Advanced Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce Does taking out lace patterns confuse you? Do you want to become more skilled at ripping out your mistakes? This class was developed by popular request. August 12 Fee: $32 My First Sweater (That Fits) with Darlene Joyce Use Ann Budd’s book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size. The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types. Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire, including measuring your body, adjusting the pattern, paired increases/decreases, selvedge edges, sloped bind off, seaming, and picking up stitches. In order to allow for knitting time, this class skips some weeks and due to popular opinion, has been extended to be a 5 week class. Thurs. July 16, 23, August 13, 20 Fee: $80 4 - 6 p.m. 4 week class Fisherwoman’s Cowl with Emily Hrobsk y Learn how to do traditional Fisherman’s rib. This technique is different than Brioche knitting. It involves knitting in the row below. You will make a simple scarf and you can sew the ends together to form a cowl if you prefer. This stitch can be used for the whole family! Sat. July 18 Fee: $32 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 2 hour class Moccasin Socks with Georg L uxton Elizabeth Zimmermann’s description of Moccasin Socks. “The item, hot from the griddle, which I now unveil is the Moccasin Sock; the Breathrough Sock, the NotTo-Be-Ground-Down Sock; the Eventually Totally Refootable Sock. Call it what you will; all the above tentative titles apply.” These sole of these socks can be taken out and reknit. Students must purchase or have either the Knitter’s Almanac or Knitting Around book. How to Knit a “True” Moebius with Darlene Joyce What is a moebius you ask? Discovered by German mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius. According to Wikepedia, a Möbius (or Moebius) strip, a non -orientable two-dimensional surface with only one side when embedded in three-dimensional Euclidean space. That will take you back to high school geometry class! Using Cat Bordhi’s YouTube video, worsted weight yarn and a 47” circular needle, we will explore moebius knitting and begin a a simple scarf. Sat. July 18 to August 1 Fee: $50 Charlotte’s Web Shawl with June Sorensen Maie Landra began to knit this shawl in a simple lace pattern, interchanging the colorways. The pattern is now legendary among knitters. The shawl uses five different variegated colorways, each one eased into the next. You may decide to knit some colorways wider than other. There are many choices. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 3 week class Beaded Waves Bracelet with June Sorensen Learn how to create a beautiful bracelet using basic bead knitting techniques. The beads do not need to be pre-strung for this class. Three sizes and five colors available. These make great holiday gifts! Why not start now to get your gifts done early? Sat. Simplicity is a customer favorite yarn because of it’s range of colors and because it is easy to knit with. August 2 & 16 Fee: $50 Wed. August 5 Fee: $32 12 - 2 p.m. 2 week class Poppy Hat with Darlene Joyce Learn Japanese short rows while making this cute hat. Each section is knit in wedges. Sizing is from newborn to adult. Choose your favorite worsted weight yarn and a size US 9 needle. Bring locking ring markers. Wed. August 19 & 26 Fee: $50 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. 2 week class Garter Lace Triangles with Darlene Joyce The technique used in this lace pattern is reminiscent of entrelac. A garter triangle is knit and stitches of increasing length are picked up along the edge. Very interesting to work. Students will make start a scarf or cowl. Tues. August 25 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Fee: $32 2 hour class Crochet Classes Beginning/ Intermediate Crochet with Darlene Joyce This class is for crocheters of any skill level. It is tailored around what you know and what you'd like to learn. If you're new to crochet, you'll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches. Already know the basics? Then learn to read patterns and stitch diagrams. If you want to learn classics like granny squares, doilies, motifs, or filet crochet, only your imagination is the limit!
