CONTRIBUTORS
Adel Rotary – Exclusive Sweet Corn Festival bottled water vendors
The Adel Rotary Club (established
in 1924) is affiliated with Rotary
International, the oldest civic
organization in the world dedicated
to community service. Past
community service efforts by Adel
Rotary include the disc golf course
at Evans Park (2005); financial
support for the concert of
Celebration Singers at the 2006
Sweet Corn Festival and for the
Adel Public Library Foundation.
Other ongoing community service
efforts include financial support of
the Adel Community Stage & Pavilion, Boy Scout Troop 152, the ADM Scholarship Foundation, and various ADM school programs. Rotarians participate in the Iowa DOT Adopt-A-Highway program on Hwy 6,
Dallas County Courthouse grounds beautification and the Sweet Corn Festival volunteer effort. The Adel
Rotary Club meets at noon every Wednesday at Patrick’s Restaurant. The 2008-2009 club officers are
President Don Price, Vice President Chad Bird, Secretary Warren Poldberg, Treasurer Doug Smith and
Julie Bailey, Sergeant at Arms. Persons interested in joining or speaking to the club may contact Don
Price at 993-1032.
Adel Kiwanis – Sweet Corn Festival Parade Coordinators
The Adel Kiwanis is made up of professional
business people who donate their time and talent
to several community projects and, through various
fundraisers, donate money toward child and
community betterment. In 2007 the Kiwanis made
a 3-year pledge to support the Adel Community
Stage & Pavilion. The Kiwanis award scholarships
to two graduates of ADM high school each year,
in addition to the General Scholarship Fund of
the ADM High School. The Adel Kiwanis hold
weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 7:00 AM. Anyone
interested in joining or presenting a program
can contact President Dan Juffer at 993-1187.
City of Adel
The annual Sweet Corn Festival would not be possible without the support of the City of Adel. From the
city administrative staff to the City Council to the city workers and the police and fire departments, everyone involved with city government pitches in to help out with the festival. Adel Partners would like to
acknowledge their support and ask everyone to join us in thanking them for all they do!
2008 Adel Sweet Corn Festival
29th Annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival Parade
Grand Marshall
The selection of the 2008 Adel Sweet Corn Festival parade
Grand Marshall was an easy choice. The community of Adel
lost a great friend in 2008 and we could not think of a better tribute to Julia Baldon than honoring her memory in this
way.
Julia personified everything a volunteer should be! She
loved every volunteer job and was happy to do anything for
anyone. She especially loved the Sweet Corn Festival! Julia
chaired the festival for 14 years and after retiring as Chair,
she joined Adel Kiwanis Club so she could continue to be
involved with the festival.
If you are interested in participating in the Sweet
Corn Festival parade, here is some information
you need to know:
line up at 19th & Main beside the brickyard parking lot.
See map point #1 below.
• Floats proceed up Greene Street, turn north on Visions
Parkway and line up on the north side of Brickyard Road.
See map point #2.
• Walking groups gather at 18th & Brickyard. See map point
#3.
• Please do not drive west on Main or Prairie Streets to line
up!
• All entries can return to the starting point by turning right
on 11th and returning to the starting point via Greene
Street (Hwy 6). Do not try to return via Prairie Street! See
map point #4.
Parade route and line-up questions?
Call Brad at 979-4554.

of the Adel community. Thank you for your support!

GENERAL INFORMATION
Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce extends our deepest
symphathy to the Baldon family on the loss of Julia earlier
this year. This tribute to her seems small compared to all
she did for the Adel community throughout her young life,
but please join us in thanking her family for sharing a part
of Julia with us.

Danielle was born in Adel on February 10, 1972 and died on March 8, 2000 after a courageous bout with cancer.
She graduated from Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and attended the University of Northern Iowa. While in high school,
she participated in softball, track, basketball and cheerleading. She also had a lifelong love of horses. Her adult
life was dedicated to fitness. And, it is in this context that the Sweet Corn 5K was created. In addition to providing the venue for hundreds of runners to perform in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators, the first four

www.sweetcorn5k.net for a map of the race route and registration information.

The Adel Sweet Corn Festival continues to grow each year and the
Chamber is dedicated to continuing the tradition of excellence and
growth. With many new vendors this year and KIOA 93.3 Radio broadcasting live from the Festival, 2008 will be an incredible experience for all
who attend. The Sweet Corn Festival is a major fundraiser for the chamber of commerce and assists with providing the resources to host other
events such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, the Iowa Book Festival, Adel
After Hours, the Brick Street Classic Car Show and the Raccoon Valley
Wine Festival. All of these events and promotions are designed to promote Adel businesses to the broader region and enhance tourism.
Don’t forget to visit the Adel Partners booth at the Sweet Corn Festival.
This year we will be at the corner of 9th & Main. Official festival t-shirts
will be available at our booth along with other products and information
about our events.
