Nature-experience pure
(Natur-Erlebnis pur)
in the conservation area Teutoburger Wald | Eggegebirge
Nature in abundance, expanse forests and formidable landmark
in a quaintly medium mountain landscape with a large concentration with cultural historical Highlights - this is the Teutoburger
Wald/Eggegebirge. And Lippe as the land of Hermann (Land des
Hermann) is one of its pearl. In the biggest conservation area
of Nordrhein-Westfalen, with its 2.711km², you can discover a
lot: the famous Hermannsdenkmal, the unique Externsteine, the
northernmost volcano of Germany or the canyon of the “Alte Eisenbahn” (old railway) and much more wonders of nature. Old
castles, abbeys and historical, marked by truss city centers appeals you to a time travel in the past, which you can delve into
museum. Because of lots of sanitariums with its natural cures,
the region is also called the healing garden of Germany (Heilgarten Deutschlands). Experience it yourself, how beneficial is the
stay in nature for your body and mind. Lots of marked hiking and
thermic spring routes like the new KlimaErlebnis-Wege (climatic
adventure paths) guides you through the faultless and restorative
landscape. A flagship among the hiking trades of the conservation
area are the “Hermannshöhen”®, which guides you above the
Teuto and the Egge with spectacular outlooks. They are counted
among the top trails of Germany- the best of what Germany can
offer to the hiker.

point you can reach numerous excursion options in the stunning landscape by foot or with your bicycle. Enjoy wide perspective, blooming heathlands, ethnic forests, deep creek canyons
and the dune of the Senne as well as the mountain range of the
Teutoburger forest with its beech trees. Augustdorf was found
1775 by the earl Simon August zur Lippe, and it is the home
of the horses of the Senne as well as the place of the former

Modern, simpatico and with a lot of nature
City in the east of Lippe in the highland, about 9.245 habitants
Romantically between the Weserbergland (highland of the Weser) and the Teutoburger Wald (Teutoburger forest) there is Barntrup: the appealing position of the historical center at the ridge
above the Bega with its surrounding forests, meadows and agricultural crop lands makes Barntrup to a preferred holiday center.
The defiant renaissance castle in the west of the city, the church
and the town hall amidst of the city center and the old frame
timbered houses invites you to ramble. Shadily forest tracks, barbeque area and pond systems, in addition to the calm apart of
the loud traffic, are the best precondition for a restorative holiday.
Barntrup also offers you worthwhile destinations in immediate
closeness: the Pied Piper city Hameln, the historic spa town Bad
Pyrmont, the holiday center SchiederSee (Schieder lake) and the
old royal court Detmold.

Little town, that has everything
City in the southeast of Lippe in the highland, about 17.500
habitants
Blomberg was in the 12th and 13th century the residence of the
earls in Lippe. From this time the city has retained itself in dreamy
angles of medieval romance, so in its enormous castle, the neat
town hall, for the most part complete city wall with the Niederntor
- the only still existing city gate in Lippe. An expanded woodland
relocate the town with its beautiful hiker paths and romantic resting places. You can find exactly here the proper holiday accommodation: as if in the holiday village directly at the urban forest,
in the comfortable hotel, holiday house or flat in the pastoral surrounding. Also the gliding airfield Borkhausen in the south is an
attraction for lots of guests. And in the local center Cappel you
can visit a golf course.

City of Culture in the Teutoburger Wald
City in the middle of Lippe, Capital of the administrative district Detmold, about 80.000 habitants
The former royal seat is cultural center and city of nature. Detmold has made itself a name across the regional frontier as cultural center. The Landestheater (theatre), the academy of music,
a varied and comprehensive cultural life as well as numerous
sights can account to this. The lovingly restored historical center,
in which many pavement cafés invites you to linger, is full of life.
Located in the nature park Teutoburger Wald/Eggegebirge, Detmold is also rewarding for nature lovers, cause lots of hike paths
and cycle tracks cross Detmold, so for example the “Hermannsweg” (Hermannpath) or the cycle track “Römerroute” (Romanroute).

In Hillentrup the old Germanic fortification Piepenkopf, imposing
Weser renaissance castle Gut Wendlinghausen as well as the
idyllic district Schwelentrup are attractive destinations. A real
feature was created by the initiative of the association “Tiere im
Dorf” (animals in the village). Based on his occupation lots of
farms in Dörentrup are holding now old domestic animal breed

Ideal for a family vacation
Community in a soft hilly mountain area in the dale of Kalle,
about 15.000 habitants
In the true sense of the word the Kalletal is on the highest point
in Lippe, embedded in the softy hill landscape in the north highland of Lippe near the Weser. Who goes on adventurous tour in
the Kalletal, will find a unique flora and fauna. Not only in shown
conservation area you can find next to the corydalis a plurality of
wildflower species (e.g. orchids). Here the kingfisher still breeds
and in winter the whooper swan from the north is a guest. Also
the bird migration routes go through the Kalletal. So you can see
steady cranes, which moves towards the south. Close to the
Weser the grey heron found their colony. On a good hiking or
cycling trail you can enjoy this nature especially intensive.

scenically Lage have something to offer. The wide, soft undulating cultural landscape invites you to hike at the Hermannsweg

Lovely community at the gate to the Teutoburger Wald
Community in the southwest of Lippe between the Senne

Schlangen receives its charm because of the scenically diversity.
The Community is located on the brink of the sandy Senne and
expands itself at the southern slope of the Teutoburger Wald up
to the pitches of the mountain range. The landscape is characterized for one thing from the heather and pine forest and for
the other thing from spruces and beech trees. Connecting between the different landscapes is the extended meadow valley
of the Strothebach. In the dry valleys in the east of Schlangen,

Castle Brake
Weserrenaissance-moated castle of the nobility
and earls zur Lippe
The castle Brake is a moated castle of the Weserrenaissance.
The today´s condition of the castle is the result from building alterations and extensions. After 1190 the nobleman Bernhard II. zur
Lippe erected a steely lodge. The proportions were more or less
equal like the today´s castle. 1306 “castrum brac” was mentioned
in written form, for the first time. It was the preferred residence of
the noblemen zur Lippe. About 1500 Brake become less importance because of the expansion of Detmold as a chief residence.
About 1587 earl Simon VI. zur Lippe defines the castle Brake
to the seat of government and expanded this castle 1587 in the
style of the renaissance. In the north a representative baroque
garden arises. 1973 the national association Lippe takes over
the castle. Since 1986 the Weserrenaissance museum is located
in the castle. The museum offers you a comprehensive insight
in art and culture of the renaissance (about 1520 to 1620) in the
Weser area.

Former medieval tower hill system and oldest greenhouse of the region
On the area Iggenhausen there was in the past a medieval tower hill system, from which till today are rests. About the turn of
the millennium Iggenhausen was purchased from the monastery
Corvey by Höxter. The monks developed to vassals and belong
from now on to the nobleness of Lippe. From the medieval tower
hill system, only a few parts of the circular wall are preserved.
The chapel of the former feudal estate is out of the year 1618.
The building owner was at that time the landowner Albert von
Brink. In the park the oldest building of the region is located,
which was built in year 1618. The manor-house was built from
1856 to 1865 under the building owners August and Friedrich von
Blomberg. A historical landscape park with old lodge inventory is

The Falkenburg, constructed in year 1194 from Bernhard II. zur
Lippe and his son Hermann II. zur Lippe, forms the corner stone
of the territorial lordship in the frontiers of the former free state
and the today´s district of Lippe. It is classified as corner mark of
the history for the lodge constructing in Lippe and Westfalen. In
the Everstein´schen Fehde 1404/1405 the duke Heinrich II. von
Braunschweig-Lüneburg was caught there. In the Soester Fehde
1447 it was one of the rare undestroyed bastions of Lippe. The
Falkenburg was till 1553 occupied and wasted since then. The
leavings of the Falkenburg are presented as an extraordinarily
building and ground monument. This results out of the excellent
meaning for history of Lippe. An association for the receipt and
restoration of the Falkenburg ”Die Falkenburg e. V.”, has called
the citizens and institutions in Lippe for participate more actively

A must see during your visit in the land of Hermann
What would be a visitation in the Land of Hermann, without the

in Germany, on the 386 meters high hill Grotenburg in Detmold?
The cheruscan earl Arminius beats in the Varusschlacht (battle
in the Teutoburger forest) in the year 9 after Christ, three of the
roman commander Varus leading legions. The sculptor Ernst
von Bandel has designed the monument and funded by donations. After altogether 37-years long construction time - because
of financial reasons, there were repeated interruptions - Emperor Wilhelm I. sanctified the Hermannsdenkmal in year 1875. The
almost 27 meters large current frame is composed of riveted
copperplates, which are supported by an iron scaffolding inside
