Definition of self-help in Switzerland
Self-help is based on values such as increasing the level
of trust in one's own personal resources, selfdetermination and assuming responsibility for oneself.
The term "community self-help" comprises all forms of
self-help where people with the same problem, a
common concern or experiencing the same situation
come together to learn from one another, support each
other and practice solidarity.

The current situation of the community self-help in Switzerland needs to be
examined. In particular…
the significance et the benefit of community self-help

These aspects are examined on three levels:
micro level: individual-related context – activities in the «groups»
meso level: institutional context – self-help centres and networking
macro level: general significance for health care and social services
in Switzerland

professionals. Therefore is a need for the
strengthening of the health competences

intensified […] Therefore shall the self-responsibility
get strengthened, but also demanded [...]

For the development of the healthcare in the future,
there must be more thinking from the position of the
patient. […] The part of the patient and the population
as actors in the health system must become stronger. It
is time to promote their competence for selfmanagement, […]
