Mark is an Escalation Manager for Hewlett Packard and manages a virtual team of engineers during crisis situations with all aspects of IT for companies and corporations. Over the years he has attended Board meetings and Lake Committee meetings at Raintree and made recommendations for the community including the boat stickers with emergency numbers, garbage containers located around the lake, and the every-other-year attendance requirement for safety meetings. As a board director Mark continues to provide input for the betterment of the RLPOA community regarding safety, beautification, and increase of neighborhood property values. Mark lives by the motto “If you do something, you might as well have fun doing it” and his favorite things are “temps over seventy degrees, enjoying the amenities of the Raintree community, and having fun with family and friends.” “I truly believe that over the past year the Board has worked very well together and has made significant progress within our community.” Name: Brenda Miller Address: 5115 SW Snowy Egret Employment: Self Employed Years at Raintree: 21 years Current or Previous Service: Current Board member, Activities Committee member, Facilities Committee member, Raintree View Committee member. As Activities Committee member I organize the annual Lake Clean-up event held in May. Class A Single-Family I would like to continue to work with other Directors in making our community a better place to live and to be a voice on the Board in the next 2 years. I am currently a Real Estate Sales person with Coldwell Banker and my wish is to continue to assist in making sound decisions that will positively affect the value of real estate, and quality of life in our community. I continue to support the rules and regulations that we currently have in place in an attempt to assist in maintaining our property values. The issue that I am particularly interested in is the Ethics Policy that has been put in place within this past year for all our volunteers. Our community continues to grow and we can no longer work on the “good old boy” system. All volunteers need to understand the impact they have on our community and in my opinion must acknowledge that they will work within a high ethical standard when making recommendations and decisions for our members. 4 Board Candidate Profiles Name: Craig A. Eaton Address: 401 SW Albatross Ct. Employment: Tech-Reps, Inc. Years at Raintree: 9 1/2 years Current or Previous Service: President Raintree Angler Club and Chairperson of Lake Committee My wife Jolie and I, along with our son Cail, have been neighbors in the Raintree community for 9 1/2 years. I have been active in the community as a volunteer for many of our events. I have worked in the telecommunications industry for 30 years and assisted The Fountains in getting Google fiber. My interests are simple and have not waived, “I CARE” about our community and preservation of our resources. The Board is doing good things and I know I can contribute to their vision for Raintree’s future. Class A Single-Family Name: Jenifer Bolin Address: 731 SW Lemans Lane Employment: Grandview School District Years at Raintree: 11 Current or Previous Service: Member and Past President of Raintree Lake Garden Club, Summerfest Parade organizer, member of Family Activities Committee In May 2003 I moved to Raintree with my two boys, and we have been very happy living in this community. I joined the Raintree Lake Garden Club 10 years ago, and am a past President of this great club. Last year I decided to revive the Parade for Summerfest, and really enjoyed all the support the community gave to it, making it a success. That decision somehow resulted in my becoming involved with the Family Activities Committee, from which I get a great deal of satisfaction. When I learned that a class B Board Member was not going to seek re-election, I decided to put my name forward. Never having served as a Board Member in the past, I feel I can bring a fresh and open mind to the deliberations of that body. I have no hidden agenda but intend to listen to all sides of all issues, use common sense, and cast my vote based on what is best for the entire Raintree Lake community. Class B Multi-Family 5 One more Board Candidate on next page! Board Candidate Profiles Name: Alan VanDeusen Address: 4282 SW Averio Lane Employment: CertTech LLC Years at Raintree: 35 years Current or Previous Service: Served for 9 months as an appointed board member to fill a vacancy. Class A Single-Family I worked at Honeywell as an engineer for 29 years, and I am now a partner at CertTech LLC, an engineering firm in Lenexa, KS where I serve as the director of the systems group and a partner. I have BS and MS degrees, both in electrical engineering from MU. I have lived at Raintree Lake since 1979, and raised my three children here, one of whom is now a Raintree resident with his wife and son. I have served on the siltation committee for 19 years, most of that as chairman. I did serve on the board for 9 months as an appointed member to fill a temporary vacancy. I have reduced my work hours in the last year, and now I have more time to give back to the community that has given my family so much over the years. I do travel some for my work, and enjoy vacations, but if elected to the board, I will work my schedule to attend as many board meetings as possible and work at making Raintree an even better community. I don’t have any projects in particular that I am trying to get accomplished, but I just want to continue the hard work of many that have served on the board before me. In the spring we will also be adding a code lock to the gate. Residents will receive the code when they purchase their boat stickers. Winter Office Hours Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm There were two factors that drove the Board decision to install the gate: trespassers and invasive species control. Trespassing boaters have been relatively minimal, but they cause a fair amount of concern. Dealing with trespassers is always an uncomfortable experience for all involved. A locked gate is expected to send a very clear message to would-be trespassers. Saturday 9:00 am - Noon Office: 537-7576 Fax: 537-5621 The second factor, invasive species control, is a much more significant challenge that could affect all residents. The invasive species of most concern to the Lake Committee and the Board is zebra mussels. Zebra mussels can cause significant damage to boats and structures in the lake as well as injury to swimmers. All of which has the potential to reduce property values in our community. Zebra mussels have few known predators and reproduce at incredible rates. A single female zebra mussel can reproduce a million zebra mussels eggs each year. Zebra mussels are not visible to the naked eye in their larvae stage, known as veligers. Zebra mussels have been identified at a number of nearby lakes including Hillsdale Lake, Smithville Lake, Lake of the Ozarks and Lake Lotawana. They are yet to be found in Raintree Lake. Many surrounding private lakes have implemented very restrictive quarantine policies to reduce the possibility of transmission from infested waters. These lakes tend to be smaller, have lower percentages of trailered boats and have significant space available for designated quarantine areas. This approach appears to be less practical for application at Raintree Lake. Our approach is focused on the education of our community members. The gate is intended to serve as a reminder that every boater at Raintree is responsible for the health of our lake. During primary boating season (May 1 - September 30) the gate will be monitored by the Lake Patrol. On high traffic days the Lake Patrol and members of the Lake Committee may conduct random inquiries and inspections of boats entering the lake. They will also provide additional educational information. Key points to remember: CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY, DISPOSE Cleaning with water heated to 140°F instantly kills mussels. The Boat/Truck wash next to Casey's in Greenwood is set to a minimum of 140°F and is recommended for use by all boats that have been in infested waters prior to re-entry into Raintree Lake. In addition to cleaning and drying the boat, special attention should be paid to trailers, bilges, live wells, ballast tanks, bait buckets, fat sacks, life jackets, tubes, wakeboards, skis, ropes, wet suits and any other gear that has been in infested waters to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned and dried as well. 23 825 SW Raintree Dr. LSMO 64082 office@rlpoa.com General Manager: Rachelle Vandiver manager@rlpoa.com Welcome New Residents!! Present were Stan, Brenda, and Allan. Discussion was held on changing the location of the new swing set and equipping it with proper chains and hardware. It was decided to meet in early April and create a monthly safety inspection checklist and specific rules and signage for the board to consider. The future shelter house plan was reviewed. We have one budgetary quote and the goal of building in 2018 looks possible at this time. The gazebo in Pleasant Hill resembles our tentative plan as far as size and shape is concerned, though there are big differences in the materials. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8 pm. There will be no scheduled meeting for the month of March; the next scheduled meeting will be on April 8, 7pm, tentatively at the clubhouse. Anyone interested is invited to join us. THE VILLA VOICE Over 20 Villa residents had a “fun” time at the Fun House Pizza place in February and everyone seemed to enjoy their pizza. “Thanks” go to Peggy Bartlett and Barbara Kirk, our hostesses, who organized the get-together and arrived at the restaurant early to reserve seating. Our next planned event is the March 5th game night. If you are planning to attend, please note that we are doing something different—we are to bring a dessert to share rather than an appetizer. Reservations are not necessary but if you have any questions, please contact one of the hostesses, Debbie Chapman at (913) 523-4932 or Gloria Pilkerton at 588-7755. If you have a favorite game, please bring it or plan to play Farkle, Spoons, Hand & Foot or Dominoes (Mexican Train). Everyone welcome! Nothing is planned for April due to the Easter holiday. Our next Game Night is May 7th. If you would be willing to serve as a hostess, please let the March hostesses or a committee member know. 24 Aquaticare Pool Management Accepting Applications Aquaticare Pool Management Company will be accepting applications for lifeguards and gate attendants for the 2015 pool season. Lifeguard applicants must be 15 years of age by June 1, 2015. Aquaticare will provide lifeguard training at the Longview Recreation Center this spring. We use the American Red Cross Safety and Lifeguarding method. There are only two training Sessions: April 2nd-4th and May 7th-9th, so if you need certification please send your application soon. Any previously certified lifeguards that need renewal training, the renewals will be on the same weekends, but you attend Saturday only. Anyone interested in an Attendant position, the HOA requests age 18 and above, and a person who can be assertive with guests at the pool. We will have a training in-service for that position also, to be announced at a later date. Please email Aquaticare at aquaticare@sbcglobal.net for an application and the position you are requesting.
