Spring Maintenance
Before you start spring maintenance on your homes,
remember that exterior changes may need approval from
the Architectural Review Board (ARB). To accommodate
residents’ needs, the ARB meets the first and third Monday of
each month. Applications to be considered need to be turned
into the office the Thursday prior to the meeting. Here are some
of the items that have to be approved: Roof Replacement,
Exterior Paint (repainting existing color or new color choice),
Fences, Pools, Decks/Patios, Retaining Walls, Play Equipment,
Dog Pens and Driveways. This is to name a few. Failure to receive prior approval
will result in a $200 fine. ARB applications are available online at www.rlpoa.com or
at the office. Refer to your directory or online for the full list or call the office for
assistance at 816-537-7576. We are here to guide you.

 New Residents - Page 17
If you are new on Raintree Lake, if you have an odd lot number (not talking about street
address, but lot#), anyone receiving a boating violation last year, or if you are planning on
renting the pontoon and any of the above applies to you, you will have to come to the
office and take the open book safety test. It will take between 15 - 30 minutes to take the
test. Just come in during office hours and take care of it!

New Boat Ramp Procedures
You may have noticed that a gate has been installed at the boat ramp. Soon we will also be adding a code
lock to the gate. Residents will receive the code when they purchase their boat stickers.
There were two factors that drove the Board decision to install the gate: trespassers and invasive species
control. Trespassing boaters have been relatively minimal, but they cause a fair amount of concern. Dealing
with trespassers is always an uncomfortable experience for all involved. A locked gate is expected to send a
very clear message to would-be trespassers.
The second factor, invasive species control, is a much more significant challenge that could affect all
residents. The invasive species of most concern to the Lake Committee and the Board is zebra mussels.
Zebra mussels can cause significant damage to boats and structures in the lake as well as injury to
swimmers. All of which has the potential to reduce property values in our community.
Zebra mussels have few known predators and reproduce at incredible rates. A single female zebra mussel
can reproduce a million zebra mussels eggs each year. Zebra mussels are not visible to the naked eye in their
larvae stage, known as veligers. Zebra mussels have been identified at a number of nearby lakes including
Hillsdale Lake, Smithville Lake, Lake of the Ozarks and Lake Lotawana. They are yet to be found in Raintree
Lake.
Many surrounding private lakes have implemented very restrictive quarantine policies to reduce the possibility
of transmission from infested waters. These lakes tend to be smaller, have lower percentages of trailered
boats and have significant space available for designated quarantine areas. This approach appears to be
less practical for application at Raintree Lake. Our approach is focused on the education of our community
members.
The gate is intended to serve as a reminder that every boater at Raintree is responsible for the health
of our lake. During primary boating season (May 1 - September 30) the gate will be monitored by the Lake
Patrol. On high traffic days the Lake Patrol and members of the Lake Committee may conduct random
inquiries and inspections of boats entering the lake. They will also provide additional educational information.
Key points to remember: CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY, DISPOSE
Cleaning with water heated to 140°F instantly kills mussels. The Boat/Truck wash next to Casey's in
Greenwood is set to a minimum of 140°F and is recommended for use by all boats that have been in infested
waters prior to re-entry into Raintree Lake.
In addition to cleaning and drying the boat, special attention should be paid to trailers, bilges, live wells, ballast
tanks, bait buckets, fat sacks, life jackets, tubes, wakeboards, skis, ropes, wet suits and any other gear that
has been in infested waters to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned and dried as well.

LAKE CLEAN-UP
Our annual Lake Clean-Up is planned as a family activity to clean up our
shoreline and neighborhood.
Saturday, May 16, 2015
9:00 A.M. – Noon
Join us at the clubhouse at 9:00 A.M. for donuts, juice and coffee.
Preview the prize table then head out with the family to pick up trash
along our shorelines and in our neighborhood. Specially marked trash
will be “planted” around the neighborhood. If you pick up trash
indicating it is a numbered prize piece you may redeem your specially
marked trash for a prize of your choice at the clubhouse. You cannot
redeem your specially marked trash for a prize before 11:30 A.M. Prizes
will be chosen in the order of the numbered prize.
Make this a family event! Trash bags and cold bottled water will be
available. Limit one prize per person. Exciting assortment of gift
certificates available for all ages! Mom and Dad will want to join in the
activity!

THE VILLA VOICE
The March game night was one of our smaller get togethers but it was reported that it turned out to be a fun evening for
those attending. Thanks go to Debbie Chapman and Gloria Pilkerton, our hostesses.
Due to the Easter holidays, we will not be meeting in April.
Please mark your calendars for May 7th for the Villas’ Annual Residents’ Meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the DPAC (Duck
Pond Activity Center). All Villa residents are invited and encouraged to attend for the election of new board members and
to receive current financial information.
Due to the Annual Meeting, our next game night will be on May 14th. Everyone is invited to come and bring a snack to
share. Drinks will be provided by the hostesses, Barbara O’Brien and Pat Waters. We hope to have a large turnout to
play games or just visit with neighbors. Please feel free to bring your favorite game!
On June 4th we will be going to T-Bones Restaurant for dinner so please mark your calendar to save that date! More information will be in the May Shoreline outlining reservation deadline, time of departure, etc. Sue Owsley (537-5222) will be
coordinating this outing.
The Villas’ Activity Committee has agreed to be responsible for the Adult Pizza Party for the entire Raintree community on
August 7th. Since this will include set-up, serving and cleanup, we will need assistance from other residents in addition to
the members of the activity committee. If you can and would be willing to help, please call Nancy Brandell (537-9960) to
volunteer your services.
Another date to save: Sunday, August 16th, our annual picnic at the DPAC.

COMMITTEE MEETING
RLPOA Adult Activities Meeting Minutes for February 25, 2015. The RLPOA Adult Activities Committee met on February 25 at the Duck
Pond Activity Center.
In attendance were Dana Boies, Nancy Brundell, Lenore Chambers, Lynne Christensen, Dottie and Roy Hedrick, Connie Johnson, Aileen
Murphy, Rose Marie and Joe Walter and Pat Waters. Chairperson Rose Marie Walter called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.
Rose Marie reviewed the 2015 budget advising there was a reduction in the funds allocated for adult activities this year. Upon discussing
with the Board last month, it was agreed to combine allocations for the spring and winter events in favor of the Cinco d' Mayo party in May.
Rose Marie shared that she is excited to have additional event coordinators for adult activities this year. Lenore Chambers and Connie
Johnson will coordinate the Adult Pizza Parties scheduled for 3/27 and 6/12, Nancy Brandell and Pat Waters will coordinate the Adult Pizza
Party for 8/7 along with Rose Marie and Joe, and Dana and Rick Boies with Rose Marie and Joe will coordinate the Cinco d' Mayo Party
again this year as well as the Fall Pizza Party. Rose Marie handed out detailed event outlines to the coordinators, discussed responsibilities
with them and reassured all that she will be available to answer any questions that may arise during the events.
Rose Marie had checked our supplies earlier and determined all needed items to be sufficient for the March event, after which she will meet
with coordinators to go over the inventory with them and determine supplies they will need to pick up for the following events.
The committee welcomed new resident Aileen Murphy who expressed her interest in working with coordinators to assist with events as may
be needed.
Rose Marie shared that she and Joe have put forth a lot of effort and passion over the past 13 years to develop and sustain an excellent
adult events program for our community and she is very appreciative of the wonderful volunteer participation and support she
receives. Thanks to all for your enthusiasm and assistance ensuring the continuing success of the program!
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM, next meeting date to be determined.

Thank you to the person or persons who felt
the need to knock over our fountain that
adorns our front walkway. It was broken at the
base. With the warm weather I am sure you
felt the need to get out of the house to cause
vandalism. Welcome spring!
Google Fiber is an amazing offering for our
community. If we don't get enough residents to
sign up within the sign-up window (which ends on
April 30th) then Google will not provide Fiber service
to our neighborhood. I think people assume that
Google Fiber is going to be just like the cable
company or the telephone company (where they can
sign-up any time in the future and get service). Unfortunately with
the high demand for Google Fiber across the metro and across the
US, they can only service the areas that show enough interest and
sign up.
The Raintree neighborhood actually spans two Google
"Fiberhoods", Raintree East [1] and Raintree West [2]. We are still
way off from hitting our minimum required # of signups (50+) for
each Fiberhood.
I personally have suffered from the poor performing internet
and extensive rates that we receive from our two limited
options (ATT & Comcast) and this would be very
unfortunate if we lost this opportunity to get faster internet
speeds at lower rates. To sign up go to:
