My love is stronger than evil, little children, therefore draw closer to God so as to feel my joy in God. Without God, little children, you do not have a future, you do not have hope or salvation; therefore leave evil and choose good. I am with you and, with you, I intercede before God for all of your needs. Thank you for having responded to my call. ” D Fr. Martin Morris’s Reflection Spiritual Director of Medjugorje Centre NE Dear Brothers and Sisters of Medjugorje North East and beyond, The Constitution of the Church, in the documents of the Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium refers to the function of Our Blessed Lady in the plan of Salvation, with words filled with great Joy, the Church says, “in the light of full Revelation we see the figure of a woman, Mother of the Redeemer, in a clear light. She is already prophetically foreshadowed in the promise of victory over the serpent which was given to our first parents after their fall into sin. (L.G) In this month’s message Our Blessed Mother says, “My love is stronger than evil.” As Mother of the Church Mary calls us from Medjugorje into her love, the Love of her Son, which is a call to truth that we need to hear. The Serpent, the evil one has deceived many with his deception in our own times, but the love of Mary is greater than the evil one, so she asks us to leave behind everything that is not of God, and to entrust our lives and our world to her Divine Love. This is a message filled with Joy and Grace, there is a love that is stronger than evil, and so many have felt and experienced the beauty of this love in Medjugorje. Mary begins the Message “With Joy I am with you.” We have a heavenly Mother who is visiting us, is with us. We need to comprehend this time of Grace. Mary is coming to us because as she has told us Satan is more active than ever before. So Mary is more active than ever before and her love is greater. So Mary comes to us with Joy. She is praying for us and defending us, accompanying us on our pilgrim journey. She knows us how we are, she does not come to 3 judge, but comes out of love, a love which is stronger than evil. Now is the time of opportunity, in this time which belongs to Mary, her time. For each of us to become part of a new world, of love that is greater than the forces of evil. In Mary, through this month’s message we see signs of her Triumph in the hearts of all her children. In this message Mary calls us to begin the fight in our own hearts against everything that does not bring Joy, i.e. selfishness, hatred, jealousy, false dependencies. The devil and all that is evil are untiring, as Mary (And Pope Francis) has told us. But Our Lady shows us how to travel her path to God. This co-operation with Mary leads to life with God, “therefore draw close to God so as to feel my Joy in God.” “Pray, Pray, Pray.” Three times Mary reminds of perseverance in Prayer. This is a reminder of what is already in the Gospels. The parable of the persistent widow (Luke:18:1) comes to mind, or Luke 6:12 where we are told “Jesus spent the whole night in prayer to God.” The point is, prayer is the foundation of our peace. Mary wants our peace because there are forces at work that intend to rob us of our interior Peace and Joy and disturb our spirit, our interior equilibrium, which can have all sorts of negative physical effects on our lives. This is why prayer is so important especially the Holy Mass, the Holy Rosary and Confession. The tool is prayer, and prayer is contact with God. God is peace. With prayer and fasting we are freed from our pride, our egoism, and all negative ways of thinking. “Pray so as to comprehend the love I have for you.” What a beautiful thing to say, how beautiful it is to say also, “I know the love of my heavenly Mother, I have felt her presence, the power of her love, her maternal mantle, her warm enveloping presence”. Dear Friends, this is the grace of Medjugorje, that has moved so many hearts. “Dear Children if you knew how much I loved you, you would cry with Joy.” “Leave evil and choose Good.” When we remain faithful to regular prayer, especially the Rosary, something powerful happens. Sin and the Rosary cannot co-exist together. Sooner or later one of them has to go. Prayer and evil cannot exist side by side. Prayer eventually cancels out the tendencies towards evil, because there is a love greater than evil. “My love is stronger than evil.” Let us pray….. God, Our Father, we thank you that you are speaking to us in these times through Mary. Through Her we ask that you give us the Grace to live the Faith and witness to it. Give us the Grace that we may untiringly work on our conversion. Forgive us the times we have lived the Faith only with our lips and give us the Grace of a deep and true conversion of heart. A conversion that fills us with immeasurable Joy of knowing the love of Mary who said, ”Do whatever he tells you.” God Bless, Fr. Martin 4 RIP Medjugorje North East have been informed and sadly announce the deaths of Friends of Medjugorje. Ciaran McDonnell former Spiritual Director of Medjugorje North East) Who are now in the Embrace of Our Blessed Mother Queen of Peace and live in the Eternal light of Our Lord and Saviour. We pray for all who grieve the loss of loved ones: Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them may they rest in peace—Amen Our Lady’s message to Mirjana 2nd July 2015 “ Dear children! I am calling you to spread the faith in my Son - your faith. You, my children illuminated by the Holy Spirit, my apostles, transmit it to others - to those who do not believe, who do not know, who do not want to know - but for that you must pray a lot for the gift of love, because love is the mark of true faith - and you will be apostles of my love. Love always, anew, revives the pain and the joy of the Eucharist, it revives the pain of the Passion of my Son, by which He showed you what it means to love immeasurably; it revives the joy for having left you His body and blood to feed you with Himself - and in this way, to be one with you. Looking at you with tenderness, I feel immeasurable love which strengthens me in my desire to bring you to a firm faith. Firm faith will give you joy and happiness on earth and in the end the encounter with my Son. This is His desire. Therefore, live Him, live love, live the light that always illuminates you in the Eucharist. I implore you to pray a lot for your shepherds, to pray so as to have all the more love for them because my Son gave them to you to feed you with His body and to teach you love. Therefore, also you are to love them. But, my children, remember, love means to endure and to give, and never, ever to judge. Thank you." 5 REPORT FROM SISTER EMMANUEL of The Community of The Beatitudes www.childrenofmedjugorje.com July 17, 2015 Dear Children of Medjugorje, praised be Jesus and Mary! 1. On July 2, 2015 Mirjana received her monthly apparition at the Blue Cross in the presence of a very large crowd. 2. Pray before the cross, dear Children! I just returned from a 10-day mission trip to the United States. Among the testimonies that were reported to me, here is one from one of our assistants who has lived with us for over a year in Medjugorje, and who participates, as a prayerful presence, in exorcisms which take place in her parish in California: "When Father John was ordained, someone gave him the gift of a metal crucifix. A hidden compartment in the crucifix contained a small piece of wood reported to be a piece of the true Cross. He wasn't really sure of the authenticity of this relic, so he didn't pay much attention to this gift, but he kept the crucifix along with other religious articles in his posses- sion. Nine years later, he found himself involved, at the request of his bishop, in prayers of deliverance and even of exorcisms. One day, a man came to him and asked for help, specifically for prayers of deliverance. The man had become possessed by the devil while visiting prostitutes in South America. During the sessions of prayers of deliverance, Father John noticed that the man had a strong aversion to the standard wooden crucifix that he was using to bless him. The man would turn his head away from the cross and do everything he could to avoid having it contact his skin, and he would shout anytime Father made the sign of the cross over him with the crucifix. The same behaviour continued for 3 meetings in a row. Then Father John remembered the metal crucifix that he had received long ago. For the following session, he brought that little cross with him, but he said nothing to the team or to the man about the difference between the two crucifixes. As soon as Father raised that crucifix to bless the man, the possessed one flung himself away from the cross so forcefully that his chair went over backwards and he landed up against the wall several feet away. He continued shouting and tried desperately to get away from this cross. Everyone else in the room was surprised at this extreme reaction, more violent than anything that had happened with him before. After the prayers were concluded and calm had returned, Father John opened up the 6 hidden compartment of his cross to show everyone the small relic hidden inside. No one had the slightest doubt as to the authenticity of what father held in his hands." It was by His cross that Jesus conquered Satan and delivered us from his hold! This type of testimony is not rare among exorcists. But I am anxious to call attention to it here, because today, aren't we all on a truly cruel battlefield? It would be utopic to believe that we can conquer evil without Christ and without His Cross. This testimony also demonstrates how precious these true relics are, and to despise these objects of piety would deprive us of many graces that God desires so much to give us. 3. The Medjugorje Case. the pilgrims who have links to that place of pilgrimage. It is very regrettable that the media gave more mistaken- attention to certain statements the Pope made on Medjugorje, rather than focusing on some of his more powerful messages about other problems Bosnia-Herzegovina is facing." He added, "I believe Francis' decision on Medjugorje will be good and right." Note that Cardinal Puljic (see photo) is the president of the Episcopal Conference of BosniaHerzegovina and a member of the Commission for Medjugorje named by Benedict XVI. See the link: http://vaticaninsider.lastampa.it/en/ the-vatican/detail/articolo/medjugorje -puljic-42059 4. Welcome to the young people! We expect thousands of young people for the Festival from July 31st to August 6th. In the prophetic vision of Sister Briege McKenna in 1984, there were rivers of living water flowing In the midst of all the waves crashing upon and against Medjugorje recently, let us underline the words of Cardinal Vinko Puljic of Sarajevo, who welcomed Pope Francis on June 6th. During a clear and sober interview in the newspaper Dnevno, he declared, in substance, that the media has manipulated the statements of the Pope on his return flight, "interpreting them as inconclusive, which is unacceptable," he said. "Their interpretations have shaken the spirit of the faithful, the priests and from the altar of the sanctuary (St. James church), and a few young people came there to avidly drink the water in order to quench their thirst. Realizing that they were re-born into life, the true life, they left full of joy 7 and back home called their friends over to drink eagerly of this living water, which is none other than the river of blessings flowing from the wounded Heart of Jesus. Today there are thousands coming to drink from this source of living water, not to "go wild," but, on the contrary, to reconnect with the deepest part of their hearts, to unify themselves interiorly and find the true happiness that is so often hidden from them in their surroundings. Let us pray for one great and beautiful harvest of souls again this year, along with the many priests coming too, so happy to do their work as shepherds in Medjugorje! Last year, there were more than 500 priests assisting the young people, and there was no chance they'd suffer unemployment in the confessionals as they do so often in their own parishes! of Our Lady. Her wedding was magnificent! She taught theology in a Catholic high school for 2 years. She is beloved by her students, who, for the most part, need a serious update on the true Catholic faith, even though they are baptized. She engages in deep dialogue with them on themes essential to life, and her stay in Medjugorje greatly enables her to do that. 5. Rosie's wedding. 6. Good news! A significant anecdote: Since Matthew taught in the same high school, the students know him well. One day, the theme of engagement and marriage came up, and Rosie told the kids how important and beneficial it is to live in chastity before marriage, and that she and Matthew had made this choice. The students burst out immediately, "What? People like you still exist?" ... Apparently yes! It is now possible to get a new app for your smartphone and receive all the official messages of Our Lady since 1984. This app is free and available in many languages. This is found at the app store. In the search menu, type Medjugorje Friends of Mary. Share this super news with your friends! What a beautiful means of evangelization! Rosie and Her husband Matthew During our mission to the USA, we had the joy of being at Rosie's side for her marriage to Matthew, in New Jersey on July 4th. Many of you know her, because she spent 3 years with us in Medjugorje, in the school Sister Emmanuel + 8 The 26th Jubilee Youth Festival (medjugojre.hr) Medjugorje Youth Festival Donations 31st July—6th Aug 2015 We would like to Thank Readers for their generosity to sponsor Young People to get to The Medjugorje Youth Festival The Youth Festival was initiated by late Fr. He taught us how to live the spirituality of Medjugorje 9 Medjugorje Pilgrimage 2015 ‘Mary Queen of Peace School of Prayer’ by Fr Jeffrey Dodds ( Copy in ‘Northern Cross’ ) Medjugorje Pilgrims with VICKA—centre Each year, Medjugorje North East organises a pilgrimage to a Marian Shrine that has become one of the most popular places to visit in Europe. On Wednesday 20th May, nearly fifty pilgrims from our diocese travelled to Medjugorje together with four priests as their guides – Father Martin Morris, Fr Michael Corbett, Fr Michael Whalen and Fr Jeff Dodds. We were to spend a week experiencing what it means to be Church with thousands of other fellow pilgrims from all over the world. The town of Medjugorje is a town located in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, around 16 miles southwest of Mostar and close to the border of Croatia. On the 24th June 1981, Mary Mother of God, was reported to have appeared to six local children with a message of peace to the world. Our Lady of Medjugorje continues today to offer messages to some of the visionaries, inviting us to stay strong in loving prayer, the celebration of the Sacraments and faith in God. Mary reminds each one of us – ‘I have come to tell the world that God exists and that He loves you.’ As a pilgrim to Medjugorje, you soon realise that this shrine is a ‘School of Prayer’, where you learn to pray with the 10 heart. For some people this is an amazing experience that is often life transforming. There is a joyfulness of spirit as you enter the daily programme of events under the guidance of the Franciscan priests and brothers who run the local parish. Each year an estimated one million people visit this place of pilgrimage. During our groups stay in Medjugorje we were blessed to lead the parish morning Mass on the Thursday in St James’ Church. Fr Martin Morris was the main celebrant and reminded the full church that they had been called to this place not by chance, but by Mary Mother of God. The music during the Mass is always inspiring and helps to lift heart and mind to God. The Taize style chants with violins and flutes create a deep prayerful atmosphere. Pilgrim talks during the week by Jakov and Vicka were a highlight in reminding us about the reality of God’s mercy and the need for the Church to guide us along the pathway to heaven. The importance of supporting vocations to the priesthood and religious life was explained. We were encouraged to return home and make our families and parishes places where all vocations could grow and mature. Each day the Franciscan priests lead Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Veneration of the Cross. When the weather is warm enough these are celebrated outside on an altar with thousands of local people and pilgrims of all ages. Great healings are likely to take place during this as people gaze quietly upon Jesus, sing Eucharistic chants and experience being part of the universal Church. During our weeks stay many of our group climbed the Hill of Apparitions while praying the rosary and the Cross Mountain while praying the stations of the cross. This takes real physical effort as the climbs are quite steep with rugged stones. For those less physically abled, Stations of the Cross on the flat by St James’ Church was an excellent alternative. Visits to the Medjugorje Cenacolo Community where young men with addiction issues are helped and a talk by Sister Emmanuel reminded us all of the fruits this special place brings to the world. Fr Michael Whalen celebrated Mass at the end of the week for our group as we travelled to Dubrovnik airport. His message during the homily was that we are the dream in God’s loving heart. Through prayer we make that dream a reality for others and ourselves. This was a fitting way to end our time in Medjugorje, knowing that Our Lady would guide and help us as a pilgrim people. 11 Continued Here are a few comments from our group about their time in Medjugorje. ‘Medjugorje is a living shrine… We witnessed the affirmations of our shepherd priests in the gaze of Mary Mother of God.’ Ken and Kath Ash ‘In Medjugorje the veil between heaven and earth is very thin.’ Ken and Ina Kinghorn. ‘Our Lady, in her messages to the visionaries, is reminding us how to live as God would have us live - in peace. Like most children, we need to be constantly reminded by our Mother how to be good children. We hope that through the school of Mary, this aim will be achieved in the hearts of all peoples.’ Marian Fletcher ‘People travel to Medjugorje for their own personal reasons – renewing or strengthening of their faith, searching for answers, curiosity or maybe out of despair and desperation. We have found Medjugorje to be a place overflowing with love, peace, hope and friendship. A beautiful holy place of prayer. We feel that Our Lady has reached out and touched our hearts and welcomed us home – to be with Jesus. Each day we will pray to Mary Queen of Peace, for the intentions of the whole world.’ Paul and Gillian Hewitson ‘I wished I had discovered a place like Medjugorje as a young priest… Its like being on the best retreat ever.’ Fr Michael Corbett Vatican is expected to Increase its Support for Medjugorje and Seers (Crownofstars, June 10, 2015) Positive signs reported for decision on Medjugorje Restrictions with supervision and support… Messages to continue… Vatican satisfied with Franciscans A report in the Croatian newspaper Vecernji List says that the Vatican is taking steps to restrict the Medjugorje visionaries from witnessing around the world because they do not have sufficient theological knowledge and are often left unsupported and without enough strong links with Church institutions. It adds that the Church authorities do not have a problem with the visionaries transmitting messages and will ensure the seers are protected with supervision and ties to Church structures. The report also says that no decision will be made on the apparitions until they have ended, which is likely to be after the last visionary has died. The parish of Medjugorje will come under greater scrutiny by the Holy See which is satisfied with the pastoral work of the local Franciscans. 12 Pray for my Pastors in the Church Medjugorje Message may 29th, 2015 Extraordinary message given to seer at Medjugorje…. Apparition to Ivan asks for priests to accept and live Medjugorje messages Pray, dear children, for my shepherds and be constant in prayer. Thank you for responding to my call today.” On Friday 29th May, in an apparition to Ivan Dragicevic, Our Lady gave an extraordinary message to the Medjugorje seer and asked for priests to accept and live her messages. Then the Lady blessed us all with her Motherly blessing and blessed all that you brought to be blessed. Then I recommended all of you, your needs, your intentions, your families and especially the sick. Then Our Lady continued to pray for a period of time here over all of you, and in this prayer left in the sign of the cross and light, with the greeting: “Go in peace, my dear children.” This is how Ivan reported what was said by Our Lady during the prayer group meeting on Apparition Hill around 10:00pm: The message seems to be a direct appeal by Our Lady fo the Church to accept her visitations and messages at Medjugorje and that her evangelising message is indeed the Gospel message. Tonight Our Lady came to us joyful and happy and, at first, greeted us all with her motherly greeting, “Praised be Jesus my dear children!” Then Our Lady extended her hands and prayed for a period of time on all of you, and prayed especifically for the sick. Then Our Lady said: “Dear children! Today I invite you to pray for my pastors in the Church. Pray, dear children, that they may receive me, that they may receive my messages and to live my messages, because they are carriers of my messages in this tired world. Dear children, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, strengthened by faith, they are carriers of the Gospel and evangelization in families. In 34 years of the Medjugorje phenomenon, the Church has never condemned the messages as a danger to the faith and morals of the faithful, but recently the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has issued notices to some bishops restricting the six visionaries and promoters from giving witness to the Medjugorje phenomenon in their dioceses. This afternoon Ivan Dragicevic was due to witness before thousands of pilgrims at Medjugorje. Parish priest Fr Marino Sakota was also scheduled to address pilgrims after Ivan’s talk Reported: . Saturday, May 30, 2015 13 Hexham & Newcastle Diocese Pilgrimage to Lourdes This week we unite our Prayers with Our Lady and The Pilgrims in the Grotto in Lourdes. O ever-Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy, health of the sick, refuge of sinners, comforter of the afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings; look with mercy on me. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favours; and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with complete confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests. (mention your petition) Through gratitude for your favours, I will endeavour to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory. Amen. "O my mother, in your heart I placed all my anguish of my heart and it is there that I gain strength and courage." Sainte Berrnadette Personal Notebook p.28 The 20th International Seminar for priests finished date: 12.07.2015. The 20th International Seminar for priests which gathered around 400 participants from 20 countries finished on Saturday with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Ivan-Ike Mandurić, this year’s lecturer. The seminar began on Monday, July 6, 2015 with the evening prayer programme and opening Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Marinko Sakota, the parish priest and 311 priests who concelebrated with him. The theme of this year’s seminar was “Peace be with you”. Apart from the lectures, the participants took part in the evening prayer programme and also prayed the Way of the Cross on Friday at Cross Mountain, as well as Rosary on Apparition Hill on Thursday. Fr. Stanko Dodig, Franciscan Capuchin serving in Dubrovnik at the moment, came here for the fourth time. This is what he told us: “It is about the spirituality and we come here to strengthen our own spiritual life. If the hearts of the recipients are closed, no leader can pour that into us. It is up to each one of us to decide whether we want to take that journey or not. That journey begins here. One needs to come to Medjugorje with the open heart to receive all that is being given here.” 14 Medjugorje Centre North East www.medjugorjene.co.uk MIDDLESBROUGH CENTRE FOR PEACE MIDDLESBROUGH CENTRE FOR PEACE MEDJUGORJE PILGRIMAGE MEDJUGORJE EVENING Wednesday 9th – 16th Sept 2015 No meeting in August Friday 18th September 2015 For further details please contact: 7.30pm to 9.30pm Mrs Marie Bedingfield Tel: 01642 530739 Rosary : Holy Mass : Talk : Witness CAFOD Nepal Earthquake Disaster We pray for the people of Nepal JOHN PAUL CENTRE 55 GRANGE ROAD, MIDDLESBROUGH, TS1 5AU For further details please contact: Mrs Marie Bedingfield Tel: 01642 530739 Donations can be made to Cafod at www.cafod.org.uk Our Lady Queen of Peace Medjugorje Apostolate of England and Wales Annual Pilgrimage to Walsingham Led by Fr.
