PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America: Our Mission Dear Friends, Last month I wrote about the launch of Hadassah Greater Atlanta’s Centennial Leadership Institute (CLI). I wanted to once again applaud the emphasis that Hadassah has on developing great leaders at the local level, many of whom can be found throughout our community in positions of leadership not only in Hadassah, but at every level of many organizations, synagogues and schools. Hadassah is about helping each of us become more, both personally and professionally. Why is leadership so important? Success in businesses, organizations and events comes from great leadership. Many of us do not describe ourselves as leaders; however, it is a unique set of skills that let others define us as leaders. It is hard to put your finger on just what a leader is; yet recognizing that potential, developing it, and then enabling that woman to recognize her own leadership skills is what Hadassah tries to do. Could you be a leader? Hundreds of books have been written on this subject. There is the natural leader, the reluctant leader, the proud leader, and the quiet leader. Sort of like the four sons from the Passover seder. There is the wise leader; there is the simple leader; the leader who does not make herself part of the community, and the leader who knows not what questions to ask. We can help you answer the questions and assist you in tapping into your “inner” leader. Speak with your Hadassah leader and find out how you can become part of our inaugural CLI class. I can guarantee you will come out knowing more about yourself, making new friends, and becoming one of those very special Hadassah “women who do!” Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to its partnership with the land and people of Israel. It enhances the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Hadassah empowers its members and supporters, as well as youth in Israel and America through opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy and Jewish continuity. Perling Hadassah CHESED Student Award? This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Hadassah CHESED Student Awards, which recognizes outstanding students in our community for their love for Israel, concern for fellow Jews and Jewish culture, concern for fellow human beings, and good academic standing. As a special tribute, we would like to honor all of the past recipients at this year's ceremony on Sunday, May 15, at 2:30 pm at Congregation Or VeShalom. Each year the outstanding accomplishments, high ideals and aspirations of our recipients are awe-inspiring; and this year, our 25th, we would like to include our alumni and discover how they have moved forward over the years. There are over 300 past recipients of the award; and we have reached out to synagogues and schools to help us contact them. Training Wheels: Al Galgalim Come join us as we go around the year “al galgalim” (on wheels) From Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah through the year to Shavuot, we’ll have fun learning about the Jewish holidays! Training Wheels/Al Galgalim, a Jewish family education program created by Hadassah, lets parents and children (ages 35) become partners in discovering the joys of being Jewish. The curriculum activities include songs, stories, crafts, games and holiday foods, all of which enable adults and children to experience together the pleasures of celebrating Shabbat and the Jewish holidays. Training Wheels meets nine times throughout the year on Sunday mornings, from 10-12, and is led by trained Hadassah volunteers. Give your family a precious gift of heritage that can last a lifetime! The program is about families – parents and children – participating in Jewish rituals and spending quality time together. If you have friends you think might be interested in Training Wheels, feel free to forward this information to them.
