“I thank you for giving us the opportunity to contribute to your sacred
work of lifesaving,” said Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, President of the International Fellowship of Christian and Jews (IFCJ) at the Hadassah Medical
Organization’s May 1st dedication of the 13-bed general Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) in the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower. Two patients

Rabbi Eckstein visited with Prof. Vernon Van-Heerden, head of Hadassah’s
ICUs, and Division of Nursing head of ICUs, Naela Hayek.
Former Hadassah National President and Tower Building Chair Bonnie
Lipton opened the dedication with a reminder of Jerusalem’s indestructability. She thanked Rabbi Eckstein for the organization’s respect for
humanity and for showing unstinting solidarity with the State of Israel.
HMO Director General Prof. Zeev Rotstein said he knew that IFCJ gave
its financial support, not for recognition, but because of a heart filled
with love for Israel and the Jewish people.

Rabbi Eckstein spoke of his pleasure in being associated with Hadassah.
“You are a brand and no other brand is so respected. Your brand goes
back to the beginning of your organization and what you stand for. You
have the premier institution in Israel today. We look forward to taking
our cooperation to the next level.”

Dear Friends,
I am writing this personal note to you because I feel
strongly that this is a very meaningful way to support
the Hadassah Medical Organization. This is an opportunity for you to remember your loved ones by
ensuring that Kaddish will be recited each year in the
Fannie and Maxwell Abbell Synagogue under the
Marc Chagall stained glass windows in the Hadassah
Hospital in Jerusalem. Your one-time, tax-deductible
donation of $1,000 per name will ensure that
Kaddish will be recited annually for your loved one
in perpetuity in the land of our ancestors. Or, for a
$2,000 donation per name, Kaddish will be recited
for your loved one daily for 11 months after burial
after which Kaddish will be recited annually.
I am personally invested in this particular fund
raising opportunity because after the death of my
parents, I knew that I wanted to donate towards a
Perpetual Yahrzeit for them. Each year I receive a
notice from Hadassah letting me know that my
parents are being remembered in Ein Kerem,
Jerusalem as Kaddish is recited. I don’t know why
exactly, but it eases the pain somewhat of how much
I miss them and I feel as if Hadassah is sharing their
Yahrtzeit with me. Please call me and I can tell you
more about this wonderful way your donation will
benefit Hadassah Medical Organization.
Hadassah Launches Coalition
for Women's Health Equity with
National Women's, Health,
and Faith Organizations
At Hadassah, we believe it's time to end
inequities in women's health.
We believe that every woman should have
access to the highest quality care, to education
about how to stay healthy, and to treatments based on
medical research aligned with women's health needs, not
just men's.
That's why Hadassah is launching the Coalition for Women's
Health Equity, a new, national coalition to promote policies
that address inequities in women's health, from research and
development, prevention and diagnosis, to treatment and
cure.
Hadassah has already brought 14 of our nation's most
influential women's and health organizations to join us.
The Coalition is planning a congressional briefing on Capitol
Hill next month. Stay aware and share our Facebook and
Twitter posts, and please talk to your friends about how the
fight for health equity impacts the lives of every woman, now
and for generations to come. Make sure you're signed up
now for Hadassah's email advocacy alerts so you don't miss
out on what's ahead.

In Rare Procedure, Israeli Doctors Save Gazan Child
from Paralysis
A rare procedure performed at
the Hadassah Medical Center in
Jerusalem has prevented a 3-yearold boy from the Gaza Strip from
becoming paralyzed. The boy was
released from the hospital
walking on his own.
Sliman, 3, had developed a
benign tumor in his chest, which
not only interfered with his respiratory system but also caused
a malformation in his spine and

"Tumors on the neck vertebrae are
very rare in children. Most of the
children under our care in Israel
would not have reached a stage
where the tumor is so large. This boy
was on the brink of paralysis.
The tumor was two millimeters
from his spine. He could have
easily found himself in a wheelchair very quickly."
Dr. Moni Benifla, a senior
neurosurgeon at Hadassah,
remarked that "after the successful surgery, it was clear that

Prospector, but give yourself a little more time, as it
can take a while to get books from other branches).
Used book stores are a good option for some –
and most will take a phone call and check for a
title before you make a trip. Many titles are also
available electronically.
Meeting time is 12:00-2:00 p.m. Book discussion
begins at 12:30. Schmooze, snack, and debate with
fellow literati.
Hostess provides drinks (juice, water, coffee, tea)
Members bring their own lunch (unless provided
by hostess).
We love to have new people join us! We ask only two
things of you – both of which are essential:
1. RSVP directly to the hostess of the month.
2. Read the book so you can participate in the
discussion.
If you are interested in attending a meeting and
seeing what you think of our little band of readers,
please email Lisa.Napell.Dicksteen@gmail.com
and you will receive a reply with the current month’s
information (location, hostess, book). Please be sure
to RSVP.
And if you’re feeling really ambitious, we still have
some openings for hostesses in 2016 – feel free to
volunteer. You will likely be hosting between five and
a dozen charming, chattering, and well-informed
local literati.
Happy reading!
During the month of May, we recognize our membership
and celebrate their diversity. Our members come from all
walks of Jewish life: doctors, lawyers, stay-at-home moms,
students, real estate agents, as well as business and
community leaders.
We are women who care, who contribute our efforts to the
local and national Hadassah community while strengthening
Jewish continuity.
Our Boulder chapter continues to grow and currently has
386 members, a new record for our part of the DesertMountain region!
We would like to welcome two long-standing Life Members
who we are transferring to our chapter: Julie Grayson and
Miche Bacher.
Donna Silverman upgraded to Life Membership in May.
And we welcome three brand new Life Members this year,
all gifted by friends or family: Amelie Baumgartner, Jenna
Monaster Morlander, and Shira Wood-Isenberg.
We welcome all the following women to our chapter, gifted
in 2015: Rachel Bachus, Doreen Dutch, Nili Feingold,
Susan Hiller, Ellen Kowitt, Bracha Kurtzer Gross,
Carolyn Lehmann, Lyndsay Lev, Michelle Miller,
Melissa Ellen Penn, Rabbi Jenny Poland, Chany Scheiner,
Kayla Schroeder, Barbara Smith, J. Tamar Stone, and
Helaine Unger.
For these lucky women, National Hadassah is offering a
special opportunity to upgrade to Life Membership. Current
2015 gifted members can upgrade to Life Membership for
only $180 on or before their membership expiration date.
During our May Membership Celebration, Hadassah is
focusing on “Women to Watch, Women Who DO.” Here
are four of our new members who are “Women to Watch,
Women Who DO.” It’s so wonderful to have new members
who are willing to get involved and help our chapter! Thank
you all!
Melissa Ellen Penn, a newly gifted member with a
background in business, writing, and the intersection
between spirituality and science. She has joined our
board and is settling in as our new bulletin editor.
Doris Weiss (who joined last year) recently upgraded
to Life Membership, serves on our board, and is our
new Social Media Chair.
Donna Silverman has been helping with registration
for the Parlor Events and also hosted a terrific bread
baking workshop/event at her home.
Ellen Kowitt, who was gifted a membership in 2015,
has also jumped in to help. She aids others find
their roots as a genealogist, and by being a
