Hail, and well met, good MONSters!
A new year has begun! The winter solstice
has passed and we have feasted well during
the Yuletide. Yet even before the twelfth night
has ended, the marching feet of war rumble
through the mountains of thunder.
January is a busy month with much to do
about festivity and war. As I pen this missive,
Estrella War is only seven weeks away. The
first, and most important message We have
for you is; PRE-REG for Estrella War as soon
as you can! Pull out your tents and bedding, clean
and repair your armour and weapons, gather plenty of warm garb. Make ready for war.
As the holiday season comes to a close, Brigit and I invite all of you to join us on January 3rd at Kingdom 12th Night in Tyr Ysgithr. There will be feasting and merriment
for all. Site opens at 2:30pm and closes at 12:00am. Court will be at their Majesties
leisure. Tucson Women's Club 6245 E. Bellevue, Tucson, AZ.
And as this celebration comes to a close, the first three Kingdom War Practices will be
held. We call upon all MONsters who are able, to attend as we prepare to fight alongside our brethren in defense of Glorious Atenveldt! Sunday, Jan 4th, at 9am to 6pm.
Himmel Park, 1000 N Tucson Blvd, Tucson, AZ.
Central War Practice will be held on Sunday, Jan 18, at Encanto Park in Phoenix and
the Northern War Practice will be held Saturday, Jan 24, in Chino Valley. We will do
our best to arrange rides for anyone willing to travel.
Finally, this month. On Jan 31st We travel back to Tyr Ysgithr for the Sable Knight
tourney.
So much to do this month, feasting and fighting, oh my!
In service to Our Populace and Our Crown
Baron Finnian Baroness Brigit

Sun, Sand and Swords Tournament
January 10, 2015
Greetings unto all from the Kingdom’s southwestern borderlands! Our borderlands
have had a bountiful trade season with our neighbors, and wish to share our bounty
with all corners our Glorious Kingdom. While they guard our southern borders, our
armies encounter daily, strange travelers, who bring with them not only new treasures, but unique fighting styles, as well as strange weapons.
Gentles, in light of our recent abundance and peaceful commerce with our neighbors, The Shire of Burning Sands will conduct a silent auction. Donations of treasures accepted! The Populace also invites all to join us in a tournament, celebrating
the Glorious Aten Sun, The Shire’s definite abundance of sand, and the Populace’s
love of armored combat and games. This year’s tournament will be a Bear Pit,
where a roll of a die shall choose the weapons of the participants. A Dessert Contest will again test our cooking prowess against the strange delights of foreign
lands, and there will also be various games for those who do not wish to fight or
cook! The Shire will also include a small soup kitchen and assorted goodies for no
extra coin.
The day’s victors will be rewarded for their travels! A $50.00 gift certificate to
Windrose Armories will be awarded to the victor of the armored combat and a
$25.00 gift certificate to Amazon.com will be awarded to the creator of the most
popular dessert as judged by the Populace.

There will be Rapier, Youth and Hard Suit prize tournaments to raise donations for Rettsyndrome.org.
For those Heroes who do not wish to compete we offer a Helm Auction so you may choose a fighter who will battle in your honor.
In the tradition of the Barony of Atenveldt, all pageantry is strongly encouraged. So please bring your consorts & heraldry and show us your chivalry on the field.
The victor of the Hard Suit & Rapier tournaments shall receive a chest of silver coins ($200). The gentles that have won each victors helm in the auction shall also receive a chest of
silver coins ($200). The Youth victor and their helm auction winner will receive a chest of coins ($50) each. The Tournament Lists will open at 9:30am & close at 10:30am. The Helm
Auction will begin following court and fighting will begin after auction is concluded.
There will also be a Silent Auction,
the silent auctions success has been dependent
on the overwhelming generosity of this Kingdom!
The auction is in need of some of the beautiful items this Kingdom has offered in years past. We are collecting handmade items or even items you may no longer need. Perhaps you
scored a great item last year, if so, please consider donating similar items this year; if you found an item and you were really excited about it, someone else will be too! Whether you are
donating items or bidding, the silent auction is one of the key parts of the event.
The Archery tournament will be held on January 11th at the normal Atenveldt/Sundragon practice, please look for that event announcement for more details.
For those who may not have heard of Rett Syndrome here is a brief description of this syndrome and how it affects these Angels. Rett Syndrome is a severe neurological
disorder the primarily affects girls. Rett Syndrome is the most physically disabling of the autism spectrum disorders. Rett Syndrome is caused by a mutation in the gene
MECP2 a protein that regulates the expression of other genes by turning them off at the appropriate time. The mutation is spontaneous and the effects are seen in early
childhood between 6 to 18 months of age. The disorder destroys speech, movement, and functional hand use. Many children lose the ability to walk, they struggle daily with
severe seizures, scoliosis, breathing abnormalities, and often the child becomes dependent on others for a lifetime of care. These children’s normal life expectancy is to the
age of 14 to 17.

Sable Knight
January 31, 2015
Upon the frigid winds of January,
the college of saint Felix struggles not
only with financial woes and
unlearned duties of post,
but the looming shadow of Sir Sable.
That dastardly tyrant has promised revenge for his past shortcomings and has
thwarted our meager attempts to protect our near empty coffers! Hence, the Greek
brethren have offered to provide extra protection from the black masked fiend for
our celebration of this great Barony.
Come watch as our new members struggle over a quill and nervously bow at anything that moves. The more the merrier! Sir Sable wouldn't dare show himself this
year with our barony beside us!
We request that those who are able come and fight for glory and to keep our college free from the oppressive shackles of debt! Bid on the picnic baskets and compete in our Arts and Sciences competition. Donate your baskets today to be included in the auction. Any and all support is welcome!
Contact our autocrat with any questions.

Guardian of the Saguaro (Courtesy and Grace)
Given to those individuals who consistently display exceptional courtesy and grace. Like the flower of
the plant from which the order takes its name, such individuals are indeed rare and the Saguaro is a fitting symbol for this order. The insignia of this order is an aiguillette, sable, argent, vert, and or, worn
on the left shoulder. Holders of this award are styled Guardians of the Saguaro and are entitled to place
the initials GOS after their names.
Order of the Stellae Argenteae (Silver Stars Youth)
Given to those young individuals who distinguish themselves with an understanding of life in these Current Middle Ages, who consistently display appropriate courtesies, and who render service unto Their
Excellencies and the populace of the Barony to the best of their age, ability, and knowledge. Companionship in the order requires that the recipient has attained no more than 16 years of age and has been active
in the Society for at least two years. The Star is an ancient symbol representing states and empires.
Therefore, since the children of Mons Tonitrus represent our very future, the star is a most fitting symbol
of this order. The insignia of this order is a medallion, pendant from a ribbon vert, bearing (fieldless) per
chevron throughout argent and sable, in base a mullet of 8 points argent all within a bordure sable. Members of this order are styled Companions of Order of the Stellae Argenteae.
Order of the Defender of Mons Tonitrus
Given to those good gentles called upon to serve as Baron and Baroness of the Barony March of Mons
Tonitrus, in recognition of their faithful service to the populace of the Barony and the Dream. This order
both recognizes the tears and the laughter, the sorrows and the joys, and the pain and the pleasure experienced by those who have enjoyed the singular honor and privilege of serving as Baron and Baroness of
these lands.
Any member of the Barony may nominate any other member for a Baronial award at any time. The nominee
must be a paid member to be recognized. Please send your recommendations to: monstonitrus@gmail.com
