BETHANY CENTRE General Information About Bethany: Bethany Centre is set in the grounds of the historic St Joseph’s Convent, which was established by Mary MacKillop and the early Sisters of St Joseph in 1872. ‘Bethany’ is adjacent to St Joseph’s Chapel - a place of pilgrimage, prayer and peace for people of all backgrounds which is open each day between 8.30a.m. and 4.00p.m. Also adjoining ‘Bethany’ is the Mary MacKillop Exhibition Centre, which showcases the early Adelaide Josephite story Mary MacKillop’s Adelaide - and has a particular focus on the social welfare work of Mary and the early Sisters. Bethany hosts a range of adult spirituality programmes, and is also available for hire by schools and groups - for personal/professional development or reflection days, small or large group non-residential retreats (adults or children), school leaders’ training/reflection days, youth ministry gatherings, etc. ‘Bethany’ has a large, versatile, open space, and the following equipment/ facilities: round tables and stackable chairs; AV equipment, a modern commercial kitchen and … a lovely restful garden for refreshment and reflection times. Seating: ‘Bethany’ can accommodate a group of 120 people seated in ‘theatre style’, or between 90 - 100 seated at round tables. In addition, there is a number of trestle tables and smaller tables. You may arrange the space to suit your requirements, and Group coordinators are responsible for returning tables and chairs to their storage places at the end of the day. Catering: We do not provide or arrange catering. Groups can either self-cater or bring in professional caterers. ‘Bethany’s’ fully equipped commercial kitchen has a 6-burner stove, cooking utensils, a refrigerator, microwave, urns, a bain-marie food-warmer, crockery, cutlery, glasses, trays. Access: ‘Bethany’ has wheel-chair access, and a designated toilet for those with a disability. Costs: Hire can be for a Half Day, Full Day and/or Evening. Costs advised on initial enquiry with the Booking Secretary. Hire fee covers the use of all facilities. A Tax Invoice will be issued to hirers at the time the booking is confirmed. Payment is required with 14 days of hirers receiving the invoice for the booking. Audio Visual Equipment: A data projector is available. Please note: It is preferable for hirers to utilise the laptop provided by the Centre as it set to the screen resolution of the projector. There is a set of wireless microphones. The sound system is most sensitive, so please contact a staff member if it is not to your satisfaction. Familiarisation: Those interested in hiring ‘Bethany’ are welcome to visit and check out the space and its facilities. Continued … How to Find Bethany Centre Bethany Centre—Enter from 4 High Street, Kensington Booking Terms and Conditions Bookings are essential for all groups. Confirmation will be sent upon receipt of your completed booking form. This will be accompanied by a ‘Tax Invoice’. Payment is required with 14 days of hirers receiving the invoice for their booking. A $50.00 fee will apply, in the event that a cancellation occurs within seven days of the planned visit. Group Coordinators are responsible for: Setting up ‘Bethany’ as required Prior to leaving: returning chairs, tables and all equipment to its storage space Leaving all areas clean Reporting any breakages: loss or damage to any part of ‘Bethany’ or its equipment will be the financial responsibility of the Group Coordinator. Work Health & Safety: The site is a ‘smoke-free’ area. Prior to commencement of a function, the organiser will need to advise participants of the designated assembly point in case of an emergency. Directions for evacuation are placed in prominent positions within the Centre. If using a laptop or any other electrical appliance, there are cord-protector covers to minimise the risk of tripping. There is a first-aid kit, which is placed in a prominent position in the main gathering space. A landline phone is provided for emergencies. Due to limited space, on-site parking is not available. We recommend parking in the surrounding streets. Car-pooling, public transport and taxis are also viable options for groups. Chartered buses may temporarily park near the entrance to ‘Bethany’ to drop off passengers and then move to another area for parking. A suggestion is Thornton Street. Passengers can be collected later at the previously arranged time and place.
