Bringing
Wholeness
to the Hopeless
“The Jesus Factor is the most
important thing that makes
Teen Challenge successful.”
Bringing Wholeness
to the Hopeless
- Chuck Colson
Our Story—More than a Rehab
It was on the streets of Brooklyn, NY in
1958 that a young country preacher felt
God’s call and the ministry of Teen
Challenge was birthed. David
Wilkerson had seen an article in Life
Magazine about a group of gang
members on trial for murder and he
could not ignore their brokenness. These men were
addicted to violence, alcohol and drugs, but
fundamentally they were addicted to sin. As David
began to work with these men, he realized that a
temporary change in their daily routine was not enough.
There needed to be a complete transformation in their
lifestyle and the best way to achieve this would be
through a geographical shift. Thus began the search for a
training center.
In June of 1962, David and his
team concluded their search on
a 225-acre farm in Rehrersburg,
PA. As they looked over the
fields and into town, they felt a
strong sense of God’s presence.
David took a twig and stuck it
into the ground where they
stood, claiming it for the Lord and the work that He
would do here.

How do we define wholeness?
God: The Jesus Factor: We
believe the essential key to
recovery is a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ
and a foundation built on the
Bible.
Family: Addiction is not
an individual issue, but a
family affliction. As a result a
vital component of holistic
recovery is healthy family
dynamics.
Work: Every student can
recognize their gifts as God’s
calling in their lives. All
God-honoring work is sacred.
Church: Becoming a part
of a local church community
is a critical component to
establishing accountable
relationships once a student
has graduated from our
program.
Community:
(Our Staff)
Our students have the
potential to recognize the
great need within their local
communities and become
contributing members of
society.
