As a parish, the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass is central to who we are and what we do.
Normal Mass Times are listed on the front of the
bulletin. Please contact the office for special Mass
times during Lent and Holy Days of Obligation. To
receive your First Holy Communion, contact the
Parish Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION
Essential to the Christian Life, the
Sacrament of Confession is where we come into
contact with Christ who wishes to heal and bless us.
Regular Confession is an integral part of practicing
our Faith and experiencing the peace and joy of a
personal relationship with Jesus. 30 minutes before
every Mass, the Sacrament of Confession is offered.
If you need to receive the Sacrament of Confession
for the first time, contact the Parish Office, 8969408.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Through the waters of Baptism, the new
Christian enters the Church and is given Eternal
Life. If you would like to have your infant baptized,
please contact the Parish Office at least 2-4 months
prior to the baby’s due date so that there is enough
time to complete preparation for the Sacrament.
Parents
should
be
registered,
participating members of the Parish Family.
Candidates for Sponsors (Godparents) should be
attending Mass regularly. Both parents and sponsors
will attend a Baptismal Seminar before they receive
the Baptismal Packet which must be received before
an approved date is scheduled.
If you are a parent or an adult seeking the
Sacrament of Baptism, please contact the Parish
Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
In the beginning, God created mankind
as one, male and female. Christ elevated this union
to the level of a Sacrament, an image of His own love
for His Bride, The Church. Our Parish Family is
made up of many beautiful marriages who enrich the
Church and the world. Couples discerning the
vocation of Holy Matrimony should contact the
Parish Office to begin the journey of preparing for
their new life together no later than 6-9 months prior
to the desired wedding date.
SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF
THE SICK AND FUNERAL/BURIAL
ARRANGEMENTS
The Church and her Sacraments
accompany us at every moment of our life. When
we are very sick or nearing the end of this life, we
receive the healing of Christ through Anointing of
the Sick. Please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408,
to make an appointment.
Also, contact the office before you
contact anyone else in making funeral arrangements.
We will lovingly guide you through that most
difficult time.
NEW PARISHIONERS WELCOME
Please fill out a census card (located near the doors
of the church), call the Parish Office or register
online at the church website: www.sprcc.org.

SAINT PETER ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
JULY 27, 2014
NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING AWARENESS
As Natural Family Planning Awareness Week comes to a close we offer the
following excerpt from the Papal Encyclical Humanae Vita (July 25, 1968) for
prayerful reflection:
Consequences of Artificial Methods
Responsible men can become more deeply convinced of the truth of the
doctrine laid down by the Church on this issue if they reflect on the
consequences of methods and plans for artificial birth control. Let them first
consider how easily this course of action could open wide the way for marital
infidelity and a general lowering of moral standards. Not much experience is
needed to be fully aware of human weakness and to understand that human
beings—and especially the young, who are so exposed to temptation—need
incentives to keep the moral law, and it is an evil thing to make it easy for
them to break that law. Another effect that gives cause for alarm is that a man
who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the
reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional
equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his
own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should
surround with care and affection.
Finally, careful consideration should be given to the danger of this power
passing into the hands of those public authorities who care little for the
precepts of the moral law. Who will blame a government which in its attempt
to resolve the problems affecting an entire country resorts to the same
measures as are regarded as lawful by married people in the solution of a
particular family difficulty? Who will prevent public authorities from favoring
those contraceptive methods which they consider more effective? Should
they regard this as necessary, they may even impose their use on everyone.
It could well happen, therefore, that when people, either individually or in
family or social life, experience the inherent difficulties of the divine law and
are determined to avoid them, they may give into the hands of public
authorities the power to intervene in the most personal and intimate
responsibility of husband and wife.
Limits to Man's Power
Consequently, unless we are willing that the responsibility of procreating
life should be left to the arbitrary decision of men, we must accept that there
are certain limits, beyond which it is wrong to go, to the power of man over
his own body and its natural functions—limits, let it be said, which no one,
whether as a private individual or as a public authority, can lawfully exceed.
These limits are expressly imposed because of the reverence due to the
whole human organism and its natural functions, in the light of the principles
We stated earlier, and in accordance with a correct understanding of the
"principle of totality" enunciated by Our predecessor Pope Pius XII.

HOLY FATHER’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR AUGUST
UNIVERSAL INTENTION: That refugees, forced by violence to abandon their homes, may find a generous welcome and the
protection of their rights.
FOR EVANGELIZATION: That Christians in Oceania may joyfully announce the faith to all the people of that region.
FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR AUGUST
WORSHIP: As we celebrate this month the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of the Acadian people, may
we recall our Lady's perfect example of Faith in God and her many protections and favors shown to us through her loving intercession.
FAITH FORMATION: For all parents at the start of a new year of Catechism. As the first teachers of the Faith to their children, may they
be guided and strengthened in word and deed in handing on the precious gift of our Faith to all our children.
EVANGELIZATION: May our hearts be transformed by the grace of Jesus' Transfiguration so that we may desire nothing else to Him.
SOCIAL JUSTICE: On Sunday, July 20, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, prayed for peace in all situations of tension and conflict in the world.
He mentioned in particular the Middle East and Ukraine, singling out the terrible crisis of Christians in Iraq with these words: “Today our
brothers are persecuted. They are banished from their homes and forced to flee without even being able to take their belongings!” “May the
God of peace arouse in all an authentic desire for dialogue and reconciliation. Violence cannot be overcome with violence. Violence is
overcome with peace!”
BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: In gratitude for all those who have financially offered a little more to help our parish meet its Insurance
Premiums in past years and that our parishioners may be blessed to do so again this year.
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
On August 1st, the celebration of the Holy Mass will
be at 6:30am followed by an hour of Eucharistic
Adoration where we can honor Jesus’ Sacred
Heart. Please make an extra effort to attend.
FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH
August 2nd is the First Saturday of the month in honor of our
Blessed Mother. The Mass will be celebrated at 7:00am. Learn of
the promises of Our Lady to those that make 5 consecutive First
Saturdays of the month. Bring your families to take advantage of
Our Lady’s promises.
BLESSING OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS
On Sunday, August 3rd following the 10:00am Holy Mass, all
expectant mothers are invited to receive a blessing for a safe
delivery and the protection of their child. The blessing will take
place in front of the Altar of Sacrifice at the communion rail.
Please quietly wait in the front pew until Father has greeted the
parishioners after Holy Mass.

“JESUS,
I TRUST IN YOU”
JESUS to St. Faustina: "Listen, My daughter,
although all the works that come into being by
My will are exposed to great sufferings,
consider whether any of them has been subject
to greater difficulties than that work which is
directly Mine - the work of Redemption. You
should not worry too much about adversities.
The world is not as powerful as it seems to be; its strength
is strictly limited. Know, My daughter, that if your soul is
filled with the fire of My pure love, then all difficulties
dissipate like fog before the sun's rays and dare not touch
the soul. All adversaries are afraid to start a quarrel with
such a soul, because they sense that it is stronger than the
whole world" (Diary, 1643).
Scripture
 Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart
to judge your people and to distinguish right from
wrong. (1 Kings 3:9)
 We know that all things work for good for those who
love God, who are called according to his purpose.
(Romans 8:28)
 When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells
all that he has and buys it. (Matthew 14:46)
Reflection
 What gift would you give all to possess?
 Why is a heart (and not the mind) able to judge right
from wrong?
 In all that you do, are you called to do the will of God?
What does it profit you to give God one thing if He asks of you
another? Consider what it is God wants, and then do it.1
1Quoteworthy, St John of the Cross, Carmel of St. Joseph: Terra Haute, IN.
“Realize that you may gain moRe in a
quarter of an hour of prayer before
the Blessed Sacrament than in all
other practices of the day.”
~St. Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop & Doctor of the Church

~Pope Benedict XVI
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS AND STEWARDSHIP!
BECAUSE OF YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT, WE HAVE A WONDERFUL
PLACE OF WORSHIP.
A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
A profound stewardship prayer is offered by the young King Solomon in today’s
first reading. He asks the Lord to give him an understanding heart, compassion
towards God’s people and the insight to distinguish right from wrong. An
understanding heart, or wisdom, is a gift from God. It is a gift that enables us
to make good decisions and prudent choices. Cultivating and sharing this gift
is essential, especially when poor decisions and lack of compassion have
consequences that affect the lives of others. Do we exercise good stewardship
over the gift of wisdom? Do we share our compassionate hearts with others?

we pray. Amen.

ROSARY FOR PEACE
The Rosary for peace for our country and our soldiers
will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30 a.m. Mass.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will
be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers
as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of
Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May
the power of Your love enable them to return home in safety,
that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We
ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
