THE
Cold, Hard Cash
Conveniently located at
the register.
A
Picture- Perfect
Moment
Think of your favorite stores as ATMs that
are safe, convenient and fee-free. Just
use your Blackhawk Community Credit
Union debit card and PIN to get cash
whenever you pay for your purchases at
most major retailers. Depending on the
store’s policy, you can get an extra $20,
$40 or more right at the cash register.
Getting cash where you buy your
groceries or other essentials saves
you the time, hassle and gas money of
making a trip to the ATM. And since it
is fee-free, you’ll also avoid those outof-network ATM fees that can add up
quickly. Getting cash back from your
debit card when you check out is the
easiest and most convenient way to get
the cash you need.
NEW! Remote Deposit Capture
Coming Soon!
Depositing a check into your account will soon become faster and
easier by using your smartphone. Our remote deposit capture service

absolutely FREE! Just follow these three easy steps to deposit checks
whenever and wherever you wish.
So the next time you go shopping,
make sure you pay with your debit card
and PIN. That way, you can take home
some cold, hard cash along with your
frozen vegetables.
• Log into your Blackhawk Community Credit Union Mobile
Banking app and select “Deposit” from the menu.
• Use your smartphone to take a photo of the front and back of
your endorsed check.
Debit
• Enter the deposit amount and follow the instructions to
complete the deposit.
That’s all it takes! Simply tap the app, snap a photo and submit the
deposit. Look for this exciting NEW feature in December.

Celebrate International
Credit Union Day with Us!
International Credit Union Day is celebrated every year in
October to recognize the importance of the credit union
movement and to thank the millions of members worldwide
for their support.
This year’s International Credit Union Day is Thursday, October
16. Please stop by a branch for cookies, coffee and punch.
It’s our way of saying thank you for your membership and for
giving us the opportunity to serve you.
We hope to see you there!
Trick or Treat with Blackhawk!
It’s fall in Wisconsin, and that means pumpkins,
hayrides, corn mazes and haunted houses.
But there’s one other thing haunting the
minds of kids all over the state – CANDY! This
Halloween, bring your little monsters, football
players and princesses to any of our branches
from 8:30am - 5:30pm for some special treats

2014-15 SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE!
Part of successful learning is having the right supplies. Blackhawk and
the Lion’s Club are excited to report that we have completed our 8th
annual “Cram the Van” school supply drive with huge success.
Jeff Cross, indirect lender for Blackhawk, contacted our preferred
dealerships to partner with our branches. These dealerships generously
gave donations of money and supplies:
Josh Fetting, Vice Chairperson
• Fagan Automotive – Janesville
Marge Fenrick, Secretary
• Symdon Chevrolet – Janesville
Steve Knox, Treasurer
• Gordie Boucher Ford – Janesville
Tom Brien, Director
• Zingg Motors – Whitewater
Edmund Halabi, Director
Tim Silha, Director
Glenn Lea, Emeritus Director
Branch staff proudly delivered all the supplies to
the schools. Thank you to the members and the
dealerships for all of the support!
22nd Annual Bert Blain Memorial Heart Walk
A Cause Close to our Hearts
The 22nd Annual Bert Blain Memorial Heart Walk was held on Sunday, August 24, and Blackhawk was a proud
sponsor of the one- and three-mile walk that took place at Palmer Park in Janesville. Blackhawk’s very own Sherri
Stumpf was the chairperson of this year’s walk.
Blackhawk also sponsored the Survivors’ Tent, where survivors of heart disease and stroke were honored before
the walk and were given an American Heart Association red hat, a tote bag of goodies and a light breakfast. We
sold red heart-shaped balloons for $1 that people could purchase in honor of survivors or in memory of a loved
one, and we released the balloons just before the start of the walk as a special tribute to everyone affected by
heart disease. It was a heart-warming experience for all!
We at Blackhawk whole-heartedly extend our sincere gratitude to all employees, members and participants who
didn’t miss a beat during this year’s Heart Walk!
“Earnest” Chosen
as Winning
Mascot Name!
Congratulations to Ian Knox, the winner of our “Name the
Mascot” contest! Ian’s submitted name, Earnest, emerged as
the winning name for our new Blackhawk mascot – a sincere
and happy hawk who likes to cheer folks on. Ian, age 13 from
Janesville, received a $50 gift card for his winning name.
Great job, Ian!
Earnest has embraced his new name with open wings!

Visa® Liability Changes
Who is liable for lost or stolen credit, ATM or
debit cards?
In today’s world of card breaches and scams, it is important
that you understand your personal liability. In most cases of
actual fraud, cardholders have ZERO liability, but it can be more
depending on the card type and how it was used. The most
important step members can take is to watch your accounts
diligently and report any unusual activity immediately!
For all card types you must report the loss, theft or unauthorized
use of your card to BHCCU as quickly as possible. Telephoning is
the best way of keeping your possible losses down. BHCCU has a
toll-free number and 24-hour service to help with emergencies.
Credit Cards:
If a transaction was made with your card or card number
without your permission and was either a Visa® or Interlink®
transaction, you will have no liability for the transaction unless
you were grossly negligent in the handling of your account, card
or access code.
Debit/ATM Cards:
Debit and ATM cards may have increased member liability. Under
the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, if you permit someone else
to use your card, or have access to your Personal Identification
Number (PIN), you are also responsible for any transactions they
authorize or conduct on any of your accounts. So if you are
lending your card to a family member or friend to use, you are
responsible for any transactions that are performed. Your liability
for unauthorized use of your ATM or debit card also depends
on how quickly you report the loss. For example, if you report
the loss within two business days after you realize your card
is missing, you will not be responsible for more than $50 for
unauthorized use. However, if you fail to report it within the two
business days and unauthorized use occurs, Wisconsin law has
changed recently and your liability could be as much as $500 if
the loss was preventable.
Tips for protecting your cards:
• Do not disclose your card
number over the phone unless
you know you’re dealing with a
reputable company.
• Sign up for Visa (credit) or
Transaction (debit) email alerts to
receive an automatic notification
of high dollar transactions.
• Sign cards immediately upon
receipt and destroy expired cards
by cutting through the card
number before disposing of them.
• Treat cards as if they were cash.
Carry only those cards that you
anticipate you’ll need.
• Never leave cards or card receipts
in cars. At home, keep cards out
of sight.
• Never lend a card and/or PIN to a
friend or family member.
• Open monthly statements
promptly and compare them with
your receipts.
• Do not carry your PIN in your
wallet or purse and do not write it
on your card.
• Use online banking to periodically
check your account activity.
Join Us for the Holidays
Pass It On Campaign – It’s the most wonderful time of the year to pass along holiday spirit! Starting the week
of December 2nd, Blackhawk will be passing out $10 to people in the communities we serve with one simple request:
Pass it on! Each person who receives an envelope gets to decide how to help and who to give it to. It could be a
donation to a favorite charity, a random act of kindness or even a creative way to make the $10 grow before passing
it on. Each recipient can share their story by completing a postcard and returning it to a branch or by visiting the
BHCCU Facebook page.
Rotary Gardens Holiday Light Show – Brighten your holidays! Blackhawk Community Credit Union
sponsors a garden at the Holiday Light Show at the Rotary Botanical Gardens in Janesville. The beautiful experience
of the Holiday Light Show is becoming an annual tradition for many families in the community and surrounding
area. Guests view more than 330,000 lights and 100 individual displays. BHCCU employees also donate their time by
collecting admission for the gardens at this event. This event starts Friday, December 12 and runs through Sunday,
December 28, starting at 4:30pm-8:00pm. Visit rotarybotanicalgardens.org for the full schedule.
