FOSHAN convention center and masterplan Public green Semi public green Cyclo-pedestrian Infrastructural network location_Foshan, China typology_convention center and masterplan phase_competition role_architect/project leader year_2015 The masterplan identifies ways to incorporate existing urban typologies from the city of Foshan while simultaneously creating a sustainable, modern city district able to accommodate growth. The plan comprises a landscape strategy which adapts to the fluctuating characteristics of the Pearl River Delta, bending conflics like seasonal floods into qualities like space for recreational areas and fishing ponds, which are a traditional element in the existing landscape. The convention center has a very clear, functional layout. At the same time the architecture reflects the dynamics of the landscape around Foshan, creating a spacious, light building. 10 PROJECTS STUDIO FUKSAS Urban structure Intercity railway Underground railway High speed road Medium speed road Low speed road Pedestrian paths Intercity railway station Underground railway station Building Base Porosity Infrastructure Cultural axis Urban node Longitudinal section 02. PALAIS DES EXPOSITIONS location_Charleroi, Belgium typology_exhibition center phase_competition role_architect/project leader year_2015 The Palais des Expositions is situated just outside the city center of Charleroi. The project is part of a dialogue between the industrial identity of Charleroi and its contemporary developments. To maintain the characteristics of the site, the volume of the exhibition halls and their shed roofs is preserved. The architectural intervention focuses primarily on the main central hall which connects all exhibition halls with each other. The space comprises the main entrance, event spaces, offices and exhibition space. It is designed as a light glass box, contrasting with the rough concrete of the existing halls. The different functions are housed in boxes which are “hovering” inside the glass box. 12 PROJECTS STUDIO FUKSAS Scheme existing building Scheme project Axonometric view 03. CENTRE DES CONGRES location_Charleroi, Belgium typology_congress center phase_competition role_architect/project leader year_2015 The project is situated next to the Palais des Beaux Arts, in the same area as Palais des Expositions. The main entrance is on the square between the Palais des Beaux Arts and Centre des Congres. The building is structured by a central body crossing from east to west, ending with a huge window overlooking the historic city centre. This large volume houses the main auditorium and other functions are located in the side wings. These wings are separated by glass strips bringing natural light into the building. Concept functions pushed back +3350 m² total 6400 m² terraces light auditorium configuration 14 PROJECTS STUDIO FUKSAS Spatial configurations auditorium Location Concept Grand Holy Mosque 04. MAKKAH MUSEUM Kaaba location_Makkah, Saudi Arabia typology_museum phase_competition, 2nd prize role_architect/project leader year_2015 Makkah museum Exhibition route The museum contains several permanent and temporary exhibitions about Islam. The main entrance is located underneath the huge cantilever of the hovering “rock”, leading to L-1. It seems like one actually descends into the water, to be led towards the sky afterwards, while exploring the museum. The floors are mainly open space floors, with some elements defining the interior space. The auditorium makes very well use of the inclined surface of the cantilever and fits in naturally. The most eye catching element within the museum is the large rounded shape which sticks through several floors. As a climax at the end of the route, the large window provides for a view towards the Kaaba. 16 PROJECTS STUDIO FUKSAS 17 Domestic flows scheme 05. XIAMEN AIRPORT 国际旅客流线 International Flow Scheme location_Xiamen, China typology_airport phase_competition role_architect/project leader year_2014 - 2015 International flows scheme The airport is situated in Xiamen, South East China and comprises an extensive programme including hotels, conference centers, commercial areas, train station, etc. As national and international flights connect to the same wings, an ingenious system of flows was required. The “skin” of the building consists of two layers which are perforated in a way that creates a very spacious experience and light inlet throughout the etntire building. In the center of the building, an outdoor garden forms the green heart of the building. VILLA ON THE DUNE location_Hoek van Holland, Netherlands typology_villa phase_built role_architect year_2010-2012 The house immediately attracts the attention from its spot on top of the dune. When walking around, at every turn the building volume gets a new, surprising form. The clear bearing structure, transverse to the east - and west facades, allows for large openings in these facades (diagram 1). The facades of white glazed brick with fine seams rest on a rough concrete plinth that acts as a retaining wall. The height differences and the dune play an important role in the design, both outside and inside (diagram 2). 24 PROJECTS STUDIO JOSINE LAMBERT Original villa Model Context analysis 07. WESTERKADE location_Rotterdam, Netherlands typology_apartments client_Godefridus Samuel Stichting phase_in progress role_architect year_2011-ongoing At the Westerkade along the river Maas in the protected quarter Scheepvaartkwartier, one of the few remaining historical parts of Rotterdam, lies an ensemble of monumental houses. The client and owner of these buildings wants to fill the last gap in this ensemble. The new building will house four apartments and parking space. As the area has a very high monumental status, the (aesthetic) rules are very strict. Cultural historical research and analysis of the context have been an important basis for the design. 26 PROJECTS STUDIO JOSINE LAMBERT Facade Plans 08. YELLOW BLUE RED location_Amsterdam, Netherlands/ Mali typology_book client_BNA and LEVS Architects phase_published role_graphic design and photography year_2011 This book Geel Blauw Rood (Yellow, Blue, Red) is the first in the series “Freestyle”, a series about the fascinations of architects published by the BNA (Bond voor Nederlandse Architecten, Institute of Dutch Architects). Together with Jurriaan van Stigt, partner at LEVS architects, we proposed to make a book about the fascination for patterns, use of materials, working methods and habits in Mali. This fascination influenced van Stigt in his work as a Dutch architect. An intriguing story of images with short stories. I did the graphic design and the photography for the book. 28 PROJECTS STUDIO JOSINE LAMBERT 09. foundation dogon education location_Dogon region, Mali typology_school buildings and water pumps client_ Foundation Dogon Education phase_constructed role_architect/researcher/fundraising/ graphic design year_2010-2012 The Foundation Dogon Education is a NGO with goal to improve life quality for the people in the remote Dogon region in Mali through the development of education. My work for the foundation included making construction drawings, promotional material, organizing events, fundraising, realisation of the website www.dogononderwijs.nl, researching building methods, materials and graphic design. Besides this, I did fieldwork in the Dogon region in Mali. The work included checking upon the state of the school buildings, need for restoration or expansion and consultation with local governments. ENERGY LANDSCAPES location_North Sea, Netherlands typology_landscape urbanism design strategy school_Architectural Association London phase_MA Landscape Urbanism role_post graduate student year_2013 Design strategy for the Dutch coast. The proposed strategy comprises a new approach to the coastal defence system and renewable energy network of the Netherlands. The strategy doesn’t consider the land-sea boarders as given fixed elements but approaches the landscape – under and above water – as one system. The intervention is based on the existing near shore sandbar patterns in the North Sea. The objective is to build up a dynamic coastal defense system in which natural processes play an essential role. At the same time new land is generated in the form of semi-artificial sandbars, this new land will initially be used to locate new windparks. 32 PROJECTS ACADEMIC 11. THE RIPARIAN LANDSHAPING MACHINE location_the Alps, Europe typology_landscape urbanism design strategy school_Architectural Association London phase_MA Landscape Urbanism role_post graduate student year_2013 Mountain landscapes have been subjected to a relentless conflict between conservative-picturesque attitudes and economic exploitation approaches. The project proposes a strategy that understands the river as a sediment management machine that choreographs newly manufactured riparian landscapes in order to put forward a decision-making mechanism to face the conflicting perspectives with existing social formations. The design strategy is developed based on geomorphological behaviour and territorial conditions. Published in Architectural Design March/April 2016 and Representing landscapes:Digital. Selected for the graduate exhibition August-October 2014. 34 PROJECTS ACADEMIC 12. KAREL APPEL’S DREAM location_Amsterdam, Netherlands typology_art platform & museum school_Technical University Delft, Netherlands phase_Msc Architecture role_master student year_2010 Karel Appel was one of the most famous and experimental Dutch artists of the 20th century. After seeing the film The reality of Karel Appel as a child, this artist started to fascinate me. This was the starting point for my graduation project: The Dream of Karel Appel. He desperately wanted a place to exhibit his works to the public. Intensive research on the life and work of Karel Appel and the way he inspired other artists formed the basis for the design. The building is more then just a background for the work of Karel Appel. It is an experience to the visitors, an acquaintance with Karel Appel, a portrait in architecture. Selected as nominee for the Archiprix 2011, best Dutch Architecture graduation projects. 36 PROJECTS ACADEMIC josine lambert architect T. (IT) 0039-3440633738 T.
