As we all know, Memorial Day is a federal holiday wherein the men and women who died while in service to our country are remembered. This holiday, celebrated on the last Monday of the month of May was formally known as Decoration Day and originated after the Civil War to commemorate the soldiers who died in this war. Please remember in your prayers this weekend all those in the history of our great country who gave their lives so that we may live in freedom and enjoy all the blessings God has bestowed on our land. Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated here in our church on Monday at 8:00am and at our cemetery at 9:00am. There will NOT be a 12:10 Mass on Monday. And, as we officially begin the Summer Months with the celebration of Memorial Day, please remember that our summer mass schedule on Sunday is 8:00am, 10:00am, and 12 Noon. The 5:30pm Mass on Saturday remains the same. At this time of year, many dioceses are Ordaining men to the priesthood. This weekend, Archbishop Myers has ordained 12 men as priests for the Archdiocese of Newark. Please remember them in your prayers. We here at Immaculate will be celebrating the anniversaries of our priesthood ordinations. Fr. Burla is celebrating 51 years of priestly ministry, having been ordained on May 25, 1963. Msgr. Paul is celebrating his 43rd anniversary on May 29, and I will be celebrating my 22nd anniversary on May 30th. Please keep us in your prayers as we do for all of you. Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend, Fr. Joe New Ministry Opportunity Taking the initiative to welcome others and inviting them to share in the life of our parish community--that's what hospitality is all about! There are many ways to extend hospitality: greeting and welcoming people to Mass, helping them find a place to sit, taking up the collection, coordinating who will bring up the gifts, etc. We would like to thank the many parishioners who have been generously sharing their talents by helping out in the absence of a formal ministry. Now we would like to officially organize a Ministry of Hospitality. But first we need to see who's interested. If you are currently acting in this capacity or you would like to explore how you can be part of this new ministry, please contact Seton Feeney at 973-4337373. “Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” -Hebrews 13:1 Possible Traffic Delays Next Sunday Due to the annual Montclair Fun Run next Sunday, June 1st there will be some street closures by the YMCA on Park St. & Midland Ave. from 8:00am to 11:00am. It was a joyous morning last Sunday as we gathered for the naming and blessing of our New Parish Garden, named in honor of our Pope Francis, The garden was the realization of a dream and vision many parishioners have had for years. The Pope Francis Parish Garden will provide fresh produce for many needy individuals and families The parish thanks so many people for their efforts: ― Patrice Kelly and the ‘A Lot to Grow’ Organization along with Andrew Skorupski and his Boy Scout troop whose funding and people power enabled the installation of the garden; ― Arsenio Changsut, our parish site coordinator and all our Garden Members who have given countless hours of their time and who will continue to labor to feed the hungry; ― Joe Mulford for his generous availability and willingness to lend a helping hand at all times; ― Our Pastoral Council members under the leadership of Seton Feeney for considering and praying about the whole project this past year and carrying it forward; (and for providing the refreshments!) ― Mary Clinton for her guidance and help with Parish Communication. ― Our entire parish family for their prayers, interest and support in submitting names for the garden. The name “Pope Francis Parish Garden” submitted in two separate entries (June Raegner Stanton & Sara DeSmith) was one of over 30 names submitted by parishioners! The Pope Francis Parish Garden. Fr. Joe dedicated and blessed the garden using the special rite of “blessing of seeds” from the Catholic Book of Blessing. Massimo Changsut carried the holy water bucket as Fr. Joe sprinkled each garden bed & seedling with the Easter holy water. Along with the blessing of the garden, a bench was dedicated to the memory of Robert Charles Rowbotham Sr., plant manager for the parish for many years, and husband of Leah Rowbotham. The Rowbothams are long time neighbors, who also shared the same vision. Robert was an avid gardener, and always wanted to see a garden on the lot. May God provide an abundant harvest so that many in need Arsenio & Massimo Changsut, Fr. Joe (photos courtesy of A. Changsut and R.
