Board Members Present: Liz Baez, Nida Beg, Natasha Chen, Judy Clark, Jim DiLellio, Theoni Huse, Lisa Jewell, Teresa Ledford, Debbie Leitch, Kristen Saad, Karen Sisson, Jen Tsai Board Members Absent: Carmel Cox. Principal: Traci DiLellio in for Dr. Harrison while she is on maternity leave. Attached documents include the sign-­‐in sheet for committee chairs and teachers who were also present, along with the Approved Budget to Actual From July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. 1. President •
The meeting was called to order at 12:17 p.m. by Karen Sisson. •
Motion to approve minutes from September 2015. Motion to approve made by Teresa Ledford, seconded by Judy Clark. 2. Principal’s Update CA Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony • Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, 16 May and will be held at the Hyatt Regency. Celebration of Learning (previously known as Open House) and CA Gold Ribbon Award Celebration. • Event scheduled for Thursday, 26 May to run from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. • Grade levels will follow an assigned schedule. • Gold Ribbon Celebration will take place in the MPR and Judy Clark will speak. Technology • The new iPads, which were purchased through the ongoing Technology Plan, have arrived and are being used by the students. • A special thanks to Holly Smyth for her persistence in taking every measure to expedite the request for obtaining the iPads. PTO Meeting TUSD Parent Survey • Optional survey for parents to take. • Can be found by going on the website or obtained from Nancy Titterud. • The deadline to submit the survey is 29 April 2016. Teacher Updates Makerspace Technology Lab • We have a dedicated Teacher Tech Team, made up of a handful of our teachers, responsible for coordinating and overseeing continued research on updating our technology lab and making it great for the students at Ladera. Robotics Club • The Robotics competition will be held at Orchard Hills School on 12 May. Teacher of the Year Dinner • Takes place on Friday, 13 May at the Irvine Marriott; RSVP is required to attend. State Testing • Testing begins next week for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. • 3rd graders test from 25 April through 29 April; 4th and 5th graders test from 2 May through 6 May. • Ladera’s campus will be closed to all visitors and parents during these two weeks (25 April through 6 May). Board Updates PTO Membership Pledge Drive Recap • In the process of selecting a location for this year’s wall tiles. Fundraising • The Dance Party will take place on 1 June, instead of 8 June. Financials • The Tech Reserve Expense is over the budgeted expense, but was necessary to accommodate the need to provide the students’ with essential technology through new iPads. • We used the funds in the Tech reserve Holding, which is money that is set aside each year, to provide our kids with the necessary technological tools and resources. • The bill for the Lazy W bus expense has come in. • We are also receiving money for the Spring Fundraiser and Membership. • Nida Beg and Teresa Ledford will be taking over the PayPal management from Janice Lee. 20 April 2016 2 Ladera Elementary School 5.
PTO Meeting Publicity • Natasha Chen will upload the Spring Gala Fundraiser pictures to our website. • A link will be provided to view all the pictures from event. Programs Assemblies • All assemblies for the year are now complete. After School Programs • Final Session starts the week of 25 April. • Yoga class on Wednesdays has been confirmed. Committee Updates Yearbook • All the proceeds from the Heart Ads will go to the PTO; the last day to place submissions is this Friday. • All yearbook orders need to be in by next Friday. • The winner of the artwork cover will be announced at the Friday Flag Ceremony; the back pages of the yearbook will show all artwork submissions and all participants will receive gift cards. Running Club • Ends on 4 May. • Kids Run the OC event takes place on 30 April. • Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the Friday Flag Ceremony following the event. • Next year’s club will be slated to occur on Thursdays, instead of Wednesdays and students will have t-­‐shirts for the club. Teacher Appreciation Week • My Teacher is a Super Hero Theme; scheduled for the week of 9 May through 13 May. • The PTO will also provide the following for our teachers: Monday, breakfast; Wednesday, catered lunch; Friday, dessert bar. • Judy Clark is sending out emails to all the Room Moms for the week’s scheduled activities. Book Fair • Scholastic Book Fair scheduled to run for one week during 26 May through 3 June; will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., daily (including students’ snack and lunch times). • It will also be open the evening of Open House from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 20 April 2016 3 Ladera Elementary School 6.
PTO Meeting 20 April 2016 Fun Run and Field Day • Fun Run is scheduled for 26 May; this is in lieu of Field Day to help Ladera raise money towards a newly designed STEM lab. • From 17 May through 26 May, we have asked the Boosterthon company to come and get our students excited about spreading the word on this upcoming event. • Flyers for the event will go home in the students’ Friday folders two weeks prior to the event. • The PTO will provide snacks for each student. Other Classified Employee Week • The PTO will be providing lunch on Wednesday, 18 May to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication of our classified employees. Meeting was adjourned at 1:15 p.m. 4
