By Sarah Charlier, SPHR I’m always excited when March begins, as I know spring is on its way any day now. Below freezing temperatures surely can’t last much longer! For those of you who attended our Legal & Legislative conference last week, thank you!! I enjoyed talking with many of you and listening to the great speakers, and I came away with a laundry list of policies and practices to re-evaluate. Our 2014 committee Chair, Lisa Haefner and our 2015 Chair, Amanda Smith, did a fantastic job leading the committee and organizing the event. Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers as well as our event sponsors, Ogletree Deakins, Aureus Group, Oncesoure, Ultimate Software, and Manpower – you all make the event possible. CISHRM is hosting the employment track at the Des Moines Civil and Human Rights Symposium on March 18th. Registration and lunch are free! Topics in the employment track include ADEA & Aging, EEOC & Federal EEO Laws, Job Re-Entry for Offenders, At-Will Employment, and Immigration Laws. Sessions have been submitted for HRCI recertification credits. Our Workforce Readiness committee is very excited about the kick-off of our brand new mentor program! March will mark the beginning of the sixmonth program. I’m looking forward to reporting on the results and feedback from our program later this year. Thank you to those of you who submitted mentor applications when we put the call out to ensure we could find a mentor for every mentee who applied! Remember, if you are PHR or SPHR certified, you are eligible to obtain the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP without taking a test or paying a fee if you complete the online tutorial pathway to SHRM Certification by December 31, 2015. Once SHRM certified, you can continue to maintain your PHR, SPHR or GPHR through HRCI as you have since obtaining that certification. I know I am planning to maintain dual certifications at least for the next few years. Find out more about the online tutorial pathway at http://shrm.org/certification/pathway . I hope March treats you well, and I’ll look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
