Confirmation Ministry Program Kickoff Sunday The SOAR Faith Development Team has been working diligently since March to redesign St. David's confirmation program. Sunday, September 18th has been designated as a kickoff for the 2016 program. There will be an orientation for new confirmands (youth who are entering 7th and 8th grades) and their parents during the Sunday School hour that day. The new instructors (Stacey and Jason Hazlett) will be introduced. The program and schedule will be reviewed and a new mentorship program will be described. During the 10:30 am service that day, the new confirmands will be introduced to the congregation and given Study Bibles as a gift from the congregation. A reception will be held in the narthex following the service. Please join us that day as we lift up and show congregational support for this new journey in the lives of our confirmands. “Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” – Jesus Christ (Matt. 5:9) Dear Friends, May God’s grace and peace be with you this day as we mark the 15th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. That was a terrible day. We pray that our Lord God will protect us from tragedies like that happening again. I ask that you join me today and throughout this week in praying for all families who lost friends and loved ones on Sept. 11th. Anniversaries are always hard, and those who lost friends and family need our prayers especially now. I ask you also pray with me today and throughout this coming week that the Holy Spirit will work to bring peace in this world. Let us not underestimate the power of God to change and melt our hard hearts. Let us pray together that our Lord will pour the love and power of God into this broken world. Jesus said, “Blessed are the Peacemakers”. Someone who is making peace is someone who is active, who it at work, and who is doing something. We all can be makers of peace. We make peace when we are led by the Holy Spirit to share Christ’s mercy and goodness with this world. Jesus is already active, loving, and caring for the hurting and the broken. Jesus invites us to come take part and be led by him to care for those in need as he is mending this world. You do that here in the Allegheny Synod when you reach out and care for those in need. I thank God for you. I pray that as we pass this anniversary you know that Christ is using you to bring his light and hope into this world. Because, that is how you push back against the darkness, you bring the love of Jesus. May God bless and keep you always, +Bishop Michael First Lutheran Church Singles Ministry The singles gathering for the month of September will take place in Friday, September 16th at 5:30 pm at Franklin Street Bar and Grill. To make a reservation, please call Jean Walker at 536-8135. Come and enjoy an evening of fellowship! Help needed with after Sunday services fellowship! The “Breaking Bread” committee needs your help in continuing the after services fellowship. There is a sign-up sheet located near the refreshments. Duties include: Making sure there is coffee for after 10:30 worship. Supplying a small snack after 8:00 and 10:30 worship. Cleaning up the snack after fellowship. There will be instructions on how to make coffee located in the kitchen by the coffee maker. Brad has agreed to make the first pot of coffee and clean up the coffee. We just need to make sure there is enough coffee for both services. If you have questions contact Deb Gindlesperger, Sherri Andrews, or anyone on the committee. You may also join the Breaking Bread committee at any time. We help plan fellowship activities around the church (usually focused around food! Hence the name) You may also donate snacks for a Sunday without signing up. Simply label any donations “For Sunday Fellowship” and leave them on the counter or in the refrigerator in the kitchen. Please let the person who signed up for that Sunday know that there are snacks available.
