From Our Pastor, Fr. Shawn Gould
Handicap Accessibility Survey
The descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost completed Jesus' work to prepare His disciples to convert the nations.
Once they received the Spirit, they had what they needed to bring the peoples, Jews and Gentiles, to the Lord. In
that sense, Jesus became, through His apostles and disciples, accessible to all.
Bringing people to the Lord remains our mission here at St. Bede. In order to assist us in our worship of God and
in our formation of disciples, we have buildings and programs. We will be undertaking, along with many other
parishes, a capital campaign in July. The goal of the campaign is to strengthen St. Bede parish’s ability, through
funding of our buildings and programs, to fulfill the mission of Christ.
We are starting to survey parishioners this weekend. We have a decision to make: namely, whether to have the
capital campaign include the construction of an elevator and remodeling of the restrooms in order to make the
church and Coleman Hall handicap accessible. It would be an expensive project to undertake. If we do include the
elevators and restrooms in our capital campaign, we will need to hire an architect. Many people have expressed
their support to me for this project, and I would like to give the whole parish a chance to express their opinion.
Below you will find a link to a very brief, online survey. If you have a phone capable of reading a QR code, you may
also scan the QR image. The survey will not take more than a minute or so to complete. The survey will be open
through May 22.
Address for Online Survey

PLEASE NOTE: Paper copies of the survey will also be available at the back of church. When completed,
please place in the collection basket or the marked box on the table next to the paper copies.

Today’s gospel tells us God actually wants to take up
residence in your family, “We will come and make our
home with you.” Every family is called to be a tabernacle
where God dwells. Is Jesus a permanent member of
your family or a temporary guest? Today the promise is
given. The choice is yours.
Is God calling YOU?
“The Spirit gave them ability.” Is the Holy Spirit
preparing you to share the Lord’s mission as a priest,
deacon or in the consecrated life?
Call Father Francis Bitterman at 312-534-8298,
or write fbitterman@archchicago.org.
Who do you turn to when you need
someone to talk to?
EMERGENCY APPEAL: RESPONSE
TO EARTHQUAKE IN ECUADOR
You may be feeling worried or low and need some help
in dealing with your challenges. You may be concerned
about issues in your marriage. Talking to a professional
counselor is a great way to find new ways to cope with
your issues. Holbrook Counseling is a part of Catholic
Charities and helps people from all around Lake County.
We have affordable fees and are in network with BCBS
and Aetna PPOs. Getting started is easy. Make a call to
847-782-4049 to start getting the help you need.
There will be a special 2nd collection to support Catholic
Relief Services in their work in Ecuador to benefit the
victims of the Ecuador earthquake of April 16th. That
collection will be held next weekend, May 21-22.
A PRAYER TO THE SPIRIT
Since we do not have a specific envelope for this
collection you are asked to use the yellow 2nd
Collection Envelope which will be in the pews that
weekend, use a check and print in the memo area
“Ecuador”, or contribute through GiveCentral. All
‘loose’ coin and cash will also go to CRS. Thank you for
your prayers and financial generosity!
Spirit of Jesus,
poured out in flames of fire upon your disciples
on the day of Pentecost,
we pray to you:
Set afire the hearts of your faithful
so that they will announce
in all the languages of the world
the wonders of the salvation of God.

Woman of the Year - Lauretta Warden
On Wednesday, May 4th, members of the St. Bede Women's Club and friends attended the
"Woman of the Year" Award Luncheon at the Cotillion Banquet Hall in Palatine. The
Woman of the Year for 2016-2017 is St. Bede Parishioner, Lauretta Warden, a very special
lady who is a ten year member of the Women’s Club and a past Co-President. She is also a
member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Lauretta has been a teacher for 30 years and is
still a substitute teacher. She is a most giving and kind-hearted woman. Bishop George
Rassas presented her with a beautiful award for "Outstanding Accomplishments in St. Bede
Council of Catholic Women" as Woman of the Year. Also, Bishop George Rassas presented
Ann Wach and Mary Ann Danko "Leadership Awards"
in recognition and appreciation of exceptional
dedication, outstanding leadership and service to the
St. Bede Council of Catholic Women. Ann and Mary
Ann are Co-Presidents of the St. Bede Women's Club.
What an honor to receive such awards. They are all
members of the ACCW (Archdiocesan Council of
Catholic Women - Vicariate 1). It was a beautiful day!
Lord,
send out your Spirit,
and renew the face
of the earth.
— Psalm 104
