Retirement - WOW!! Time does fly
by… It seems like it was only yesterday
when I was hired by Burris Foods and
now the time
has come for
me to say
good-bye.
I have been
with the
company for
nearly four
decades and
have enjoyed
every minute!
I would like to thank the company for
the opportunities that I have been given
and my MANY talented colleagues for
their immense support and help, without
which, “Never say NO” would not have
been possible.
I started with the company in the fall of
1974. I worked weekends in Harrington
while going to college. My very first
assignment was to put lockers together
for the new break room - what is now
the red dock. For the next two years,
my weekends were spent cleaning the
storage area (which had never been
cleaned) and receiving products for
Sunday’s selection. On November
14, 1976, Jack Burris hired me full
time as an Inventory Control Supervisor
on the second shift. From there, I
became Receiving Supervisor, Shipping
Supervisor, Plant Engineer, and in
September 2001, Bob Burris asked if
I would accept the position of General
Manager in Federalsburg. I gladly

accepted, and for the past three years, I
have had the pleasure of overseeing both
Harrington and Federalsburg.
I feel honored to have been part of
this company’s amazing growth! The
speedy rebuilding of the warehouse
after the 1979 fire was a masterpiece
of cooperation at all levels. During
the rebuild, plans were put in place
to service our customers from other
locations. I spent 13 weeks at the
Meadowlands in New Jersey with the
White Rose Distribution Center and
had my first experience working with
transportation. The understanding of this
vital part of our business has helped me
immensely as we have grown into a
major player in food distribution.
I have the reputation of being the
company’s “YES MAN”, and I can
honestly say that my home phone number
has been on the wall at many Giant
Stores. Our commitment to “Customer,
Quality, Service” is a passion that I will
have forever.

simple. It is 100% commitment to my
motto: Customer, Quality, and Service.
It includes never saying NO to any
customer’s request - but taking the
challenge and making it happen.”
Seeing our Warehouse Management
System change and grow with customers
helped enable Federalsburg to win the
Giant of Maryland Vendor of the Year
Award in 2001, 2002, and 2003!
Receiving this award with the Burris
family is one of the major highlights of
my career. At that point I thought I had
accomplished my greatest goal, I had no
idea how many opportunities were in my

future.
Life does have a way of coming full
circle. I started in Harrington and have
spent the past three years there working
with and assembling a phenomenal
team. Creating change and the attitude
that we can do anything has produced
opportunities that were deemed
impossible in the past. The team was
able to make the Hain Celestrial transfer
a success, add unique storage customers,
and renew the Acme contract. There is
no turning back for this facility!!
Jack and Bob Burris were amazing men,
and I was blessed to have them both as
role models. My promptness is a lesson
learned from Jack. In my first year with
the company when I was in charge of
receiving, I was late one morning. I was
young and would stay out a little late
on weekends. One Sunday morning,
when I was 5 minutes late, who was
there… Jack Burris. By the time he
finished lecturing me on my receiving
responsibilities and the need for me to
arrive 30 minutes before the shift start, I
don’t think he could see me on the other
side of the desk. To this day, I have
never felt so small. BUT, it was a lesson
learned. My early mornings are a direct
result of that one morning! Oddly, I
did not ever see Jack Burris again on a
Sunday morning, but I am sure he knows
that I was always on time after that.
Bob Burris always said that I should have
been in
sales.
My
father
always
told me
that I

should have been a farmer. In 2009
after losing the Giant Meat and Poultry
business, I put on my “sales” hat and we
secured the military commissary bakery
and deli distribution (103 stores), a host
of storage customers and returned to the
poultry blast and export (Amick) business.
And on the farming side, I grew one of
my largest pumpkins - 839 pounds!
While I look forward to my upcoming
retirement, I must admit that I will miss
working for this remarkable company
with its outstanding team members
and management. Many thanks to our
numerous customers and vendors. It
has been a pleasure working with and
serving all of you.
It’s time! There are pumpkins to grow
and places to go. Until we meet
again…

JUNE MARKS THE START
June marks the start of our new fiscal year and that is always a good time to
reflect on the prior year and think about the things that need to be done going
forward. Many good things have happened this past year and I am very
pleased with our progress. But what I am most thankful for is you! It really takes
all of us to make this company go. Our phrase, “I AM BURRIS” (that goes for you
too HONOR!) could not be more true. To our customers, you may be the only
representation of our company that they ever see...it is your work that makes the
difference between being great or being mediocre.
Competition is tough and customers are demanding...we are doing a great job
handling both. We can do better though. This year I am asking you to think
about how you work with your internal team members. How do you view them?
What’s your attitude about those other departments and other facilities...shipping,
receiving, purchasing, transportation, maintenance, IT, finance, HR...?
Using a phrase from IT, we are “One Team with One Dream”. I hear many
comments about friction between various departments. There will always be
things to work out internally, but I ask you take the perspective of, how can we
better focus on the customer and fight the competition...how can we help each
other be successful? Burris is full of 1,800 talented people. This year, please ask
yourself how you can help those you work with pull together into a great team.

Burris Maintenance Team Members Enjoy Emaint.com Training in Orlando!
Lisa Stockton said, “We enjoyed ourselves this year at the emaintenance class. We
were able to learn so much about the program this year.”

Emaint.com is the program that the Maintenance personnel use to track all of their
projects and daily maintenance that is done on equipment and facilities. This program
also helps Maintenance departments with organization of certain parts that are needed
and in stock. This program is being used in a lot of, if not all, locations for Burris.
Chad and Wesley are from emaint.com. They taught the class both days.

dental implants will become a covered benefit under our Met
Life Dental Plan. The implants will be covered at 50% up to the
annual calendar year maximum benefit of $1,000.
What are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed in your jaw to
hold a replacement tooth. In general, there are three parts to
a dental implant.
1. IMPLANT—A small screw-like metal post
implanted into the jaw.
2. ABUTMENT—A small metal extension, which is
placed on top of the implant.
3. CROWN—The replacement tooth that sits on top
of the abutment.
Why Use Implants?
Implants have become increasingly popular since the American
Dental Association (ADA) endorsed them in 1986.

Single tooth implants don’t require preparation
and restoration of otherwise healthy adjacent
teeth for support, providing a clear advantage over
3-unit bridges in many situations.

The dental community typically views implants as
the treatment of choice rather than bridges or
crowns because implants often last longer.
1. DECISION—You and your dentist have to
determine if this is right for you.
2. INTEGRATION—The dental surgeon
(periodontist, oral surgeon, or general dentist)
places the implant in your jaw. Over the next
few months, the bone in your jaw grows
around the implant, which secures it in place.
While integration is taking place, your dentist
may provide you with a temporary tooth to
cover the opening where the implant was
placed. A crown will be created to match the
color, shape and size of your teeth.
3. ABUTMENT—Once the implant is secure, your
dentist will place an abutment (small
extension) on top of the implant. This small
piece of metal extends up through your
gumline. If your dentist uses a single-stage
implant, you will not need this third step. With
single-stage, the abutment is already attached
to the implant.
4. CROWN—The dentist replaces the temporary
tooth on top of the abutment, and secures the
crown in place.




OPERATIONS MANAGER
RETIRES AFTER 36 YEARS!
On Wednesday, April 23rd, the Honor
Foods Philadelphia team celebrated
Tony Lapergola! Tony is retiring after 36
years with the Honor Foods team.
Tony joined Honor Foods in 1978
through Snelling & Snelling Employment
agency. He started as a dispatcher
and after two years he was promoted
to Warehouse Supervisor in 1980 and
remained a warehouse Supervisor until
2007 when Burris Logistics purchased
Honor Foods. Upon the merger,
Greg Cyganiewicz promoted Tony to
Assistant Warehouse Manager where
he worked side by side with Greg until
2009. When Greg was promoted to
Director of Operations and moved to
Springfield, MA Tony was promoted to
Operations Manager.
On January 23, 2014, The Honor Foods
Family held a “tailgate” baby shower
to honor the upcoming arrival of baby
D’Egidio. Rick was very surprised at
his baby
shower,
which also
included
a surprise
visit from
his wife
Jen. Jen
and Rick
welcomed
their first
child in
March
2014.
After 36 years with Honor, Tony said
that leaving Honor was a very difficult
decision for him. However now that
both of his children are grown and on
their own, Tony wanted to spend more
time fishing and relaxing. He also won’t
miss the hour and a half commute to
and from the warehouse!
Tony will be gratefully missed by
everyone at Honor Foods. Best Wishes
and Happy Retirement Tony!
A GROOM’S SHOWER
On May 16, 2014, Honor Foods
celebrated the upcoming nuptials of Paul
Diaz, Transportation Manager, to his Fiancé
Michelle Kaye with a surprise Groom’s
Shower. Both Paul and Michelle were
extremely surprised. Paul and Michelle met
through mutual friends. The wedding was
planned for June 7, 2014 at the Water
Works Restaurant in Philadelphia, PA.
Rick D’Egidio and his wife Jen
announced the birth of their first child
Cole D’Egidio. Cole made his debut at
8:29pm on Sunday, March 9, 2014
weighing 7lbs 2oz and was 20 inches
long. Congratulations to Rick and Jen!!

HONOR FOODS
CELEBRATES 65 YEARS!
Honor Foods was founded on July 8, 1949 by Milton Singer and
Hannah Kricheff. From 1949 until 1984 the company leased warehouse space at 530 N. Beach Street, also known as Philadelphia Cold Storage. On October 11, 1983 Honor Foods broke ground (photo) for their current N. 5th Street location, spending an
estimated $4.7 M for the office,
warehouse and distribution center.
The facility began operations in
1984. Burris Logistics acquired
Honor in 2007.
Honor began as a Warehousing
Distribution Center for “Institutional”
Frozen Foods selling to the wholesalers/distributors that serviced
restaurants, hotels, colleges and
other institutions. Honor provided
wholesalers with easy access to
manufacturer’s product without them
having to worry about meeting order minimums, meeting order lead times and carrying excessive inventory. They could get exactly
what they needed from Honor and, typically, sooner than they would get product from manufacturers. It was a relatively new business
model and its success spawned a number of competitors. Over time, Honor grew to become the region’s premier provider of grocery,
frozen and dairy products offering more than 275 and carrying more than 2,500 items in stock. It differentiates itself from its many
competitors through its strong reputation for service within the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions.

Honor Foods Driver, Ramiro Villaran, Wins First Cruise Your Way
to Safety Drawing for Drivers! 5 Years of Dedicated Service!
RAMIRO VILLARAN
Back in December 2013, the transportation departments started
their own Cruise Your Way to Safety contest specifically for the
drivers. The goal of this program is to go for 90 days (for Honor’s
location) with no preventable vehicle accidents/damages and
zero OSHA recordable accidents. At the end of that 90 day
period, the team will draw a name out of all of the full-time CDL
class drivers. The winner wins one cruise package up to $1,500
plus $500 in cash for discretionary use. They also get 5 PTO days
to enjoy their vacation!
The very first winner was drawn at Honor Foods. Ramiro Villaran
has been with us since August 2009, almost 5 years.
Ramiro comes to us after a short career in carpentry, auto repair
and roofing. Starting with Honor in the Spring of 2009 as a
forklift operator, Ramiro quickly progressed from yard jockey and
finally to driver by the end of 2009. Ramiro enjoys spending time

with his son and daughter while not at work. His hobbies include
amateur drag racing, and pool playing. Ramiro hopes to take his
cruise in the Caribbean.

Sarah’s Social Media Update
Over the last two years, Burris has increased the level of overall company communications in a drastic way. Our
company Intranet (Burris Avenue) is updated weekly with five news stories. Over the last year, it has gained popularity with news
stories now averaging about 200 views!
We also have seven social media pages that are updated regularly:
Over the last two years, we have increased our presence online from 100 to over 3,050 followers including over 845
Facebook followers and 1,640 LinkedIn Followers. Although we have not met all of our June goals yet, I am still very pleased with
our overall growth!
How Can You Help? We need all levels of our Burris Team to participate and be active in our effort to become a better
workplace. Here are a few quick ways you can help!
1. Read my Friday emails and check out the Burris Avenue regularly.
2. Put up a picture of your face in Google and make sure you have the correct signature format.
3. If you have social media accounts, and are willing, interact with our pages by liking, commenting and sharing our posts.
4. Take a fun Burris-themed photo with coworkers or even of just something fun around your location and share it with me at

Meet Herman
Littleton
Over the past
12 years,
Herman has
worked in many
areas of the company. Since starting
as an Order Selector at our Harrington
warehouse in 2002, Herman has
continually gained responsibility, moving
on to other positions within the company
such as Supervisor, Receiving Manager,
and Lead Shipping Supervisor. Most
recently, Herman accepted the position
of Safety and Sanitation Manager at
our Harrington facility after longtime
team member Bill Adkins retired from the
position after 37 years.
Herman has worked at four Burris
locations (Harrington, Federalsburg,
Atlanta, and New Castle) and has also
been a key player in several of our startups (Rocky Hill, Elkton, Honor Foods, and
Atlanta). His versatility, knowledge, and
“get it done” attitude have made Herman
a go-to Burris team member for years.
In the midst of what seems like constant
relocation, Herman has managed
to raise a family with his wife and 5
children. He enjoys spending time with
his family, including hiking, traveling, and
anything outdoors. He is also a die-hard
Saints fan…. Who Dat! ;)
Burris’ continuous success is thanks to
our dedicated and dependable team
members, like Herman, who are always
willing to go above and beyond for our
customers and fellow team members.

I started on October 9, 1988 as an
order selector. After two years, I moved
on to be a loader for a couple years.
Next, I moved on to Receiving for five
years and then I worked in the crane for
15 years. I have had my current job as
an Inventory Control Specialist for one
year.
Favorite Burris Memory or Favorite
Part of Your Job: It has been a pleasure
working for Burris. Burris offers many
opportunities for their employees and
everyone works as a team towards a
common goal to make Burris a successful
company.
When I am not at work I enjoy.....
When I’m not at work I spend time with
my family and I’m also active in the
volunteer fire service. I have been an
active member in the fire service since
1985 holding several potions in the
fire company including fire recorder,
Chief engineer and my current position
as Treasurer. I have held the position as
Treasurer for about 19 years.

Harrington facility
In celebration of a Great Fiscal Year
in Harrington and our 3 year Acme
contract renewal, we kicked off
summer with a BBQ for all members
on Wednesday, May 28th. In
appreciation of everyone’s hard work
here at the facility Donnie Burris, John
Teixeira, Brian Haley and Ed Givens
joined us for a couple hours of good
food and good company. We were
also joined by some old timers,
Richard Clark, Gary Walstead and
Bill Adkins. As we begin our next
fiscal year and the new challenges
that lie ahead, let’s not forget our
conviction and ambition that has
gotten us where we are today!!! A

made us such a success this year, we

Annual Driver of the
Year Banquet at the
Chowder Pot Restaurant
and Banquet Facility
in Hartford, CT on
Saturday, April 26th. Safety
Manager Ashley Griffin put
together a great event with great
giveaways for the Drivers.
We were proud to announce
that this year’s Driver of the Year
was Ricardo Ballardin and
runner-up was Michael Ritchotte.
The highlight and best part of
the night was when all of our
previous Drivers of the Year were
announced and were also all
present at the Banquet!!
A fun time was had by all...until
next year!

n October 12, 2013, we held our 5th annual golf
outing at Hawk’s Landing Country Club in Southington
Ct. This was our greatest success in many ways. With a
modest start in year one of 24 golfers this year we grew to 92
golfers. The weather was great, the scenery was very colorful,
and the turnout was excellent, which helped make the day a
great success.

Montana. John fought a courageous battle for most of his life
with Muscular Dystrophy and passed on July 7th. He would
have liked knowing that the money raised was going to help
kids.
We will soon be looking to plan next year’s event and would
like to let everybody know that this is an open invitation to all
that would like to attend and play. We know facilities are very
far apart but if you are in the area we would love to have you

How Burris Atlanta
Weathered the Ice
Storm With Good Oldfashioned Teamwork!
January 2014, the Atlanta area was
hit by a crippling ice and snow storm
that created difficult conditions for any
business, but especially for those of us in
the transportation and logistics industry.
Luckily, Burris Logistics is no stranger to
adapting and overcoming hurdles. Over
the years we have weathered numerous
unpredictable circumstances with
amazing flexibility. When Atlanta came
to a halt, the rest of Burris rose to the
occasion once again to help fellow team
members and our customers.
As you know, when the weather gets
bad, grocery store shelves empty at an
alarming rate. Our job at Burris Logistics
is to make sure that the shelves of our
customers stay stocked, even during the
most difficult conditions. Last week our
entire Burris team came together once
again to prove that we live our mottos of
“Get it Right” “Make it Happen and “I
am Burris”!
When the roads got icy and traffic
came to a standstill, we had up to 25
inbound truckloads that were either very
late or didn’t come in at all. While our
customer service team worked hard to
get the loads rescheduled, our partner
warehouse in New Castle, Delaware
started planning how to help. The New
Castle team organized, picked, and
shipped out multiple loads to cover six of
the stores that had been scheduled to be
sent out by Atlanta that day. Out of the

21 outbound trucks that were scheduled
to ship out that day, 10 arrived at the
stores on time. The other 11 arrived, but
they were late. While we strive for on
time deliveries, this was still quite a feat
for our transportation team considering
that we had two team members stuck in
their cars on the highway for over 22
hours before they were picked up by the
National Guard!
There were numerous Atlanta team
members that went above and beyond
by staying at work around the clock,
and one in particular deserves some
recognition. Eduardo Quinones, one of
our Receiving Supervisors, came in on
Wednesday morning at 1am, worked
until 9am, went home to sleep for a few
hours and was back at 1pm to help
receive trucks that trickled in throughout
the day and following evening. Even
though he was extremely tired he knew
he might be one of the only few who
could make it in since he lived close
to the facility. He happily volunteered
his time to help the rest of the team get
caught up.
The rest of the extended Burris Family
jumped at the opportunity to help
their fellow team members from Burris
Atlanta. Many helped from afar, holding
conference calls with our customer every
few hours throughout the ordeal in order
to come up with the best and safest
strategies to recover from the storm. Our
Support and IT team members remained
on high alert and helped the Atlanta
team in many ways by reassigning
devices, redirecting phone lines, and
behind the scenes order changes.
There were also team members from
multiple facilities that dropped everything
and
traveled
to Atlanta
on a
moment’s
notice
to lend
support.
From our IT department in Milford,
Delaware, two of our Business Analysts,
Lauren Thomas and Gary Walstead,
flew in to help receive some of the
incoming loads. From Rocky Hill we
had three warehouse team members,
Arenzo Washington, Jesus Nieves, and
Claudius Wallace, that made the long
trek south along with two warehouse
team members, Joe Grieff and Luis Silva
from Burris New Castle. We also had
four Burris Orlando team members Andre
Morris, LaRondrick Robertson, Manny
Arroyo, and Ramon Santiago that braved
the cold weather and came up from the
south.

In January, Burris – Rocky Hill kicked off their DockFlow initiative. Jeff
Mirisola (Production Controller), Christos Xafis (AM Supervisor), and Dave Hernandez
(AM Loader) spent the better part of two weeks working with Selectors, Loaders, and
Checkers to train them on this process enhancement. This DockFlow initiative has had
much success since its January roll-out, reducing the time until last pallet is loaded by
30%! It also creates an organized layout for Selector passes and their accompanied
pallets, allowing the Checkers and Loaders to become more efficient. Below is a great
depiction of the old way of loading vs. the new DockFlow way. To the left (in the
photo) is the upper dock, which looks very full using the ‘old’ way of loading. To the
right is the lower dock that has been setup for the Dockflow initiative (see the yellow
paint on the floor?). As you can see, the dock looks much cleaner and organized,
making our operation that much more efficient.
You might be asking yourself, what are those yellow lines on the floor? These lines
serve as targets for the Selectors to drop their pallets in. They’re spaced just far
enough apart so that the Checker has enough room to walk around the entire pallet
while doing their accuracy audits. The Selectors are also dropping their passes in a
consistent pattern (left to right) so that all the passes and club orders are together and
organized, allowing the Loader to stay on their equipment and fluidly load; rather than
getting on and off their equipment looking for lost pallets.

Welcome John Goetze, Operations Manager;
he has spent the bulk of his career in the
grocery & food service industries. John comes
to us from Performance Food Group where
he was the VP of Operations and managed

been married for 40 years, has one daughter,
and two grandsons, and his hometown
is Pittsburgh, PA. John has a passion for

Bring Your Child to Work Day 2014
On Wednesday, April 23, 2014 Burris Elkton
held our annual Bring Your Child to Work
Day event. This year we had 24 children
between the ages of 8 and 12 join us for
a fun-filled day of learning. The children
visited the various departments and learned
about how they all work together to help the
operation run smoothly. They participated
in such activities as: build a pallet contests,
shrink wrap contests, scavenger hunts, and
cherry picker rides. The children were able
to enjoy lunch with their parents and at the
end of the day they also enjoyed tractortrailer rides.

The event this year was a great success
due to all of our gracious volunteers and the
wonderful children and their parents!

t the end of March Orlando had a March Madness BBQ. Team members
were encouraged to wear the colors of their favorite teams. The leadership team
manned the grill and buffet line and fed the different departments throughout the day.
Charles Hollowell, Mike Sullivan, Charlie Gatz and Nick Falk all took turns braving the
heat of the grill and the Florida sun. It was a fun afternoon of great food and spirited
conversation.

2008 and was recently promoted
from Shipping Selector to Sanitation
Supervisor.
Francoise Crawl started with Burris in

accepted an opportunity in the Inventory
department. Reese and Smith were part
of the Shipping Replenishment team.

served as Director of Human Resources
of NCR, a Fortune 500 company. She
was the Human Resources & Benefits
Manager of Acorn Stairlifts Inc., the
largest stairlift provider in the world.
She has earned a Professional Human
Resource certification (PHR) and is
a member of the Society of Human
Resource Professionals (SHRM). Jana
was born and raised in Central Florida,
making her a “true” Floridian! She
resides in Oviedo, FL with her husband
Steven and her two children Matthew

FRANK SITTNICK
Frank J Sittnick is a transportation
specialist with more than 25 years’
experience in the logistics industry. He
began his career as a driver in New
England running up and down the east
coast. Frank moved to Florida about 20
years ago and began working in the
beverage industry as a driver salesman.
After 5 years, Frank moved over to the
food distribution industry starting as a
driver. Over the course of the next 10
years, he was promoted through the
ranks of supervisor, department manager
and ultimately earned the position of
Director of Transportation. While away
from work, he spends his time with the
family which includes his beautiful fiancé,
4 active teenagers and a small herd of
dogs, lizards and one very cranky cat.
In addition, he enjoys golfing, mechanics
and cruising on his motorcycle.

Cruise to Safety ‘Lyndhurst is
Back on Track’
Unfortunately in January, our 4 Years of ‘No Lost Time Accidents’ came to an end…
this included our 6th consecutive ‘Cruise to Safety’ streak. Undaunted by the setback,
you jumped right back into the groove and on April 25, 2014 completed 90 days of
‘no reportable’ accidents.
Congratulations to all of you for putting the incident aside and moving forward to
reach the 90 day Cruise to Safety goal. I would hope that all of you are as proud of
yourselves and I am; to do what you do each day, deliver the results you deliver, and
do it safely is a great achievement.

Are you Good or Lucky?
I was on a family road trip recently and
decided to see how many unsafe acts that
I would see. It was eye opening.
I witnessed a car wreck that the driver
apparently fell asleep and ran into the
safety barrier. Luckily he or his family was
not hurt. In total I saw FIVE other cars that
had been in an accident.
I made a game with my family to see
how many people were texting, talking on
the phone, eating or any other distracted
driving. We saw 48 people texting
and 96 people talking on the phone. A
dog sitting on a man’s lap while he was
driving and apparently a mom who was
trying to correct her kids’ behavior in the
back seat. Oh by the way, the kids were
not wearing seat belts. We also saw a
group of teen-age girls bouncing around
in the car and being rowdy and almost
ran into the back of my car. Six people
eating while driving.
I saw a women slip on a wet floor in a
hotel lobby. She said she was in a lot of
pain.
We had fun with these observations but
all of these acts could have put my family
in danger or themselves or worse.

where they took a particular attribute
they were interested in for an incoming
team member, researched the available
questions in their work books and as a
group decided on a question, a desired
response and further probing questions

TRAINING SUCCESS!
Last week, Lauren Weyant, Heather
Morrow, and Vanessa Adams-Cannon
worked together on a Hiring Team
training for members of the Federalsburg
Team. The event was held at the Pizza
King in Seaford, Delaware and there
were six team members from the Fed
team that attended. The Federalsburg
Hiring Team is Anthony Deshields,
Jr. (Receiving Lead 19 year Service),
Richard McAllister (Export Team Member
6 years), Melissa Horton (Transportation
Clerk 5 years), Diego Simon (Shipping
Team Member 8 years) Antony Bowens
(Shipping Team Member 2 years), and
Donna Neidhart (Shipping Clerk and
Billing 4 years).
The first interviews on site were Tuesday,
May 20, 2014 in which the team

Federalsburg
to help get their desired response out of
the applicant during an interview.
They are working in groups of two. They
were divided into teams to attempt to
guess the cost of turnover for their facility
for the year. “Team Tony” which
consisted of Anthony and Antony
won that challenge by guessing
almost the exact number!
Giant “Fresh Each Pick”
goes live in Federalsburg.

Andrew selected over 8,500
eaches in this first week. This
program is for singles and
not cases. It is more detailed
oriented and a tad slower.
Giant is rolling new product
and inventory over the next
several weeks. Look for more
exciting news to come as
Giant rolls out additional
items to be selected!

AJ Bunting, 40 Year Burris
Harrington Team Member Passes
Away From Tina Hawkins
Clarence “Richard” Black, of Felton,
DE, passed away suddenly on
Saturday, March 22, 2014.
Michael Scott Wallace, 48, of
Waynesboro, passed away on
Monday, March 31, 2014 at
his residence. We all had the
opportunity to work with Michael for
3 years. He left this world too soon
and will be missed by all. We wish
Michael’s family the very best, during
this difficult time; our thoughts and
prayers are with them.
AJ retired from
Burris with 40
years under his
belt. He then
worked on and
off for the next
7 years in the
pallet yard and
miscellaneous
jobs around the
Harrington facility.
AJ leaves a lasting legacy here at our
Harrington facility not only with his
sons, Artie, John, Tom, his daughterin-law Kathy and his grandson Kevin,
but in many of the long-time Burris
members that he taught so much.
AJ could tell stories about the “old
days” that would always bring a
smile to his face and to those that
were lucky enough to be listening.
He loved life, his family and the
Burris family; he will be sadly missed
by all that knew him.

Black, Passes Away From Donnie
Burris, CEO of Burris Logistics
Burris/Honor Family,
It is with a
heavy heart
that I let you
all know that
Richard Black
passed away
suddenly while
working in the
yard.
Richard had
been with Burris for over 23 years
and has been so valuable to the
company in so many areas during
that time. He worked closely
with my Grandfather and Father
and managed several distribution
programs for us including the Costco
program which we serviced out of
Federalsburg, MD. Richard also
became a very key part of the
Honor Foods Leadership Team in
Philadelphia when we acquired the
business in August of 2007.
He was a very good friend to many
of us at Burris/Honor and it goes
without saying that we will miss him
greatly!
His daughter, Jennifer Gallagher, is a
Business Analyst for our Harrington,
DE facility.
