MENU for March 17th, 2014 - Grilled Corned Beef with Sauerkraut and Swiss Cheese on Rye, French Fries and Fruit
February 17th Meeting - Todd Hagen, followed by The Concerto Brothers, Jay Stevens and Pete Donatella
by Raye Donatella
Pre-meeting music was done by Todd Hagen, one of our very favorite entertainers. He
played his special repertoire, with everyone enjoying every tune he played while waiting
for him to do his signature piece, “The Auctioneer.” Wait! He finished his set and didn’t
play “The Auctioneer!” Guess he’ll play again later, as I’m sure he won’t be allowed to
leave for the evening without playing it! Okay, Todd - see you later.
Dale Matthies was next in line to play for us. He began with “Misty,”
“Spoonful Of Sugar,” and ended his set with “Peanuts.” Really nice,
Dale.
Jack Dermody on accordion, accompanied by Jim Winning on drums,
began with a waltz that I think he called “Here’s Looking At
You.” Next Jack played his ukulele doing “Little Grass Shack.” That was fun.
Darrell Ulch and Neil Rohlena were up now to play “Ain’t She Sweet,” “Cruisin’ Down the River,”
and then “Your Cheating Heart.” That was very nicely done, gentlemen.
Jay Stevens was up next - Pete Donatella had a stint in the hospital and was not up to snuff as yet - so was not here. Jay played his
new Concerto accordion, which is the same as Pete’s, with Jim
Winning on drums. They played and Jay sang several of the songs, beginning with one of my favorite songs, “Yellow
Bird,” “Give Back My Heart,” then another favorite of mine that Jay sings “Have I Told You Lately That I Love you,” then
“The Entertainer,” “I’m In The Mood For Love,” “Hey, Good Lookin’,” “Jambalaya,” “Volver, Volver,” “Red Raven
Polka,” “Never On Sunday,” “Spanish Eyes,” “Tarantella,” “Come To The Sea,” and ended with “Waltz Across Texas.” Good job, Jay - sorry you had to take it all on yourself because your “compadre” got sick. But with Jim’s help you
aced it!
Sam Pecorilla on accordion with Carl Nyberg on banjo and Jim Winning on drums were up next - Carl sang “The Sweetness Of You,” then they played a rousing polka that I don’t know, then another pretty song -- see, that’s what happens when
I’m not there - Sam had no one to give his list of songs to - rats! Suffice it to say they were all beautifully done! They finished up with a medley of “Way, Marie,” “That’s Amore,” “Que Sera, Sera,” and “Chiri Biri Bin.” Then another one I
don’t know, but it was really great, guys!
Now Todd Hagen came back - hopefully to play and sing “The Auctioneer!” Yep!! There it is! I love it when you do that
