Our Girls basketball team also upped the ante with a clear improvement in skill and determination on the court. At the High School, the Boys Bowling program again worked to take home the hardware, winning their division and surpassing all expectations! Again, their accolades are added to the “Division Champions” banner in the gym. This season, Bolger Wrestler, Seth Rotondella again took home the highest honor a Bolger wrestler can attain, winning the TriCounty title as well as the County, League and Division Tittle at 70lbs. Blake Clayton and George Burdick also had very productive post-season’s capturing the Division and League titles at 80lbs and 126lbs respectively. The Girls Bowling team took 2nd place team scratch game of 774 and 2nd place team scratch series of 2119. Individually, Kelsey Wilson bowled the division’s highest female game of 225 and the division’s 3rd highest scratch series of 548. Titan Boys Basketball named Kason Preson to the 1st Team AllDivision and showed great growth and promise for the future of Titan basketball. The Bolger Boys Basketball team grew in ferocity and skill, capturing the attention of the other teams in our league by finishing the season with an impressive run in the playoffs and a tournament at the Hoop Group in Neptune. Our Lady Titans also had a student-athlete selected to post-season honors, Stephanie Walters was recognized as 2nd team All-Division. Their season ended with a win in the NJSIAA tournament over Perth Amboy Tech, only to fall to the eventual champions, South River. The Titan Cheerleading team added some exciting stunts to their repertoire this season with twisting and high flying action! Lastly, the wrestling program boasted the accomplishments of two District placewinners, Dylan Alt and Tyree Sutton. Tyree would continue and be named third in Region XI and 6th overall in the STATE of NEW JERSEY! Great Job Titans! Boys Bowling The boys bowling team exceeded all of Mr. Coleman's expectations this year. The team won the A-North Division with a 40-5 record. They also won the Long Branch Winter Wave Invitation, finished 2nd in the Monmouth County Championship, 9th in the Shore Conference Championship and 2nd in the CJ1 State Championship. The team led the division in ALL of the major standings. Seniors Mitch Lawless and Scott Benbow will be sorely missed next year. Wrestling The Titan Wrestling Team had a record of 8-16 this season and a conference record of 2-2. While starting 8 new wrestlers this year and only having 13 wrestlers on the team the Titans over achieved throughout the season. The Titans placed 4th as a team at the Paulsboro Tournament and 4th at the Buc ClassicTournament. The Titans were well represented at the District 22 Tournament where Tyree Sutton placed 2nd and Dylan Alt placed 3rd. Tyree Sutton then went on to place third in the Region VI Tournament becoming only the second wrestler in Keansburg history to qualify for the state tournament. Tyree really battled during the state tournament and placed 6th at 195 pounds making him the only wrestler in Keansburg history to place at the tournament. Along the way Tyree picked up 37 varsity wins this year and became the single season wins leader surpassing Johnny Pecyna's 34 win season back in 2006. Girls Bowling The Girls’ Bowling team came in 3rd place in the Shore Conference Northern Monmouth A Division and qualified for the Shore Conference Tournament. They also participated in the Bishop Ahr Tournament, the Red Raider Holiday Classic, the Winter Wave Invitational, a scotch doubles tournament, the NJSIAA Sectionals, and the Monmouth County Bowling Championships. Our starting lineup consisted of lead off bowler, Aimee Ascolese, followed by Faith Madden, Emily Mayes, and Elizabeth Connor. Our team anchor was Kelsey Wilson. Freshman, Kayvonna Daniel, also saw quite a bit of varsity time. She started a few matches and was our ‘go to’ sub. Our junior varsity members, Jenna Pierce, Julia Reis, Iman Traymon, and Sara Zaky, improved their game during practices in the hopes of playing varsity next year. Boys Basketball The Boy’s Varsity ended their 2013-2014 season 4-15. Senior, Dylan Carson completed the season with an astounding 21 charges. Senior, Kason Preston ended the season averaging 23 points per game. He also scored 30 plus points in 5 games. Kason was nominated to the Monmouth Middlesex Holiday Tournament’s All-Star Team. Kason Preston was also selected to the 2013-2014 B-Central 1st All Division Team. A key victory for the Titans this season was beating rival Keyport at home with a score of 54-52. The Titans also defeated Asbury Park, making Senior Night special and memorable for all! Basketball can be just a simple game. But other times, basketball is about so much more. It’s full of life lessons. It can teach you about failure, joy, disappointment, unity, and strength. It teaches how to understand winning and losing; about maturity, teamwork, humility and selflessness. I believe the “Titans” have experienced and grown from all of the life lessons that they, as individuals, and as a team went through. The players that finished the season played because they knew that this was what they loved to do. They put in the work and the time to get better because they wanted to. That's what sports teach- “To Give It Your ALL.” Determination and perseverance learned through sport is honed in and going to stay with you all your life. If you're a competitor, use it to your advantage. Play because it's what you do. It is my hope that you realize everything you've gained and learned as a student-athlete here at KHS. SENIORS, we thank you for the memories. Winter Cheerleading Great job Varsity Basketball Cheerleaders! This squad of all underclassmen did a terrific job, as they showed true Titan spirit throughout the entire winter season. The cheerleaders cheered for the boys and girls basketball teams at all home games. Many of the girls also showed their support for the Titan wrestlers. Most girls were all returning cheerleaders from football season, and will hopefully continue to cheer on the Titans in their off-season this spring. Go Titans!!! Girls Basketball The 2013-2014 Lady Titans should be proud of the effort that was given this season. We ended the season with a 10-15 record overall and a 6-8 record in our division which put us in third place. We received an 8th seed in the state tournament and won our first round game against Perth Amboy Tech. We exceeded our win total from last year and battled hard each and every game. Each player made significant improvements over the course of the season both on and off the court. The titans were led by Stephanie Walters (13.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg,) and Ashley Andalora (8.9 ppg, 8.1 rpg). Rachel Hunt, Haley McCormick, Julia Pepe, Erin Best, and Angela Kabongo also made huge contributions with each one being a leading score or rebounder at least once! Bolger Cheerleading The Bolger Middle School Cheerleading Team had a great season full of high flying spirit filled fun! This year our squad was lead by four 8th grade Captains: Kaitlyn Alt, Kaitlin Felix, Erin McGrath and Daphnee Zitzman. The girls pulled together and worked hard to cheer on their fellow Titans at every home game this season. We are looking forward to next year with a strong 7th grade group this year that they all return and grow as a team for next year as well. Showing our Titan Spirit, Proving We are One Town and One Team, and That We Can't Bolger Girls Basketball The Bolger Girls Basketball team finished a hard fought season with a record of 2-14. Team leaders were Melaney Gonzalez, Imani Butler, Malori Bell, Alyssa Castera, Hanna Valle, and Cristina Flores. Coach Schumacher is extremely proud with how well this group of girl's got along, how hard they worked in practice and how they fought every single game even when there backs were against the wall. There is no doubt that these Lady Titans will be a valuable asset to there school's, community, and athletic program for years to come. Bolger Boys Basketball The Bolger Boys basketball team finished their season with a 13-7 record. Building upon the strides made last year, 8th grade leaders, Joey Osterbye, Julian Castell, Vaughn Fitzgerald, Danny Vital and Justin Alessi accomplished their goal of making league playoffs by finishing the regular season as division co-champions. The boys carried their regular season success into postseason play competing in The Hoop Group Garden State Classic where they defeated HW Mountz in the first round. Additionally the boys competed in the Run for the Roses middle school tournament. It was a great year for the team as they achieved so many goals they set for themselves in the beginning of the year. The boys truly were a testament to the belief that hard work and dedication pays off. The team is looking to fill the shoes of the departing 8th graders who have certainly left a legacy for younger grades to follow. Any student looking to become part of the Bolger Basketball program can see Mr. Sigrist for a summer workout schedule. Thank you to all those who came out and supported the boys this year. Bolger Wrestling The Bolger Titan wrestling team had another exciting year led by George Burdick, Seth Rotondella and Blake Clayton all of whom won the Monmouth County championship. Our team record does not reflect all the accomplishments we saw this season as individuals, seven wrestlers placed in the league tournament. We look forward to the following season with many of our wrestlers returning for an exciting and fun season.
