Employment Equity Update –
Question and Answer Session:
We are proud to say we have completed our 2013 employment equity
report.
Q. How do our numbers compare to last year?
Energy & Refined Product Group
– “Safety Challenge”
After.a.very.difficult.winter.with.various.“weather”.impacts.to.
our.business.I.would.like.to.extend.my.appreciation.to.all.the.
drivers,.lease.operators.and.operational.staff.that.supported.our.
Canadian.operations.during.some.extremely.difficult.challenges.
We.are.looking.forward.to.a.very.busy.summer.driving.season.
which.will.also.bring.its.own.challenges.relating.to.increased.
deliveries.and.a.heavier.traffic.volume.
A. In 2013 we had eight members from a recognized designated group
(women, visible minorities, aboriginals and persons with a disability)
promoted which is an increase from 2012. We were also able to report
that there were 170 employees hired who self-identified as a member of
a visible minority which shows a significant increase over 2012.
I.am.extending.a.personal.challenge.to.each.member.of.our.ERP.
team.to.make.safety.their.first.priority.
Q. What does this mean for Seaboard Transport
Group of Companies?
Our..operational.accountability.-.when.it.comes.to.supporting.
our.driving.group.-.starts.with.“us”.and.ensuring.that.our.
professional.drivers.have.the.right.information.to.remain.focused.
A. This means that we are following our Employment Equity Plan of
hiring a more diverse workforce through new recruiting efforts, internal
promotions, and an overall commitment to creating an inclusive
workplace.
Q. What are the next steps in Employment
Equity?
A. Our main focus for 2014 is to continue providing Human Resources
training to all managers and to continue adhering to our Employment
Equity Plan. Our HR Strategy Team will continue to meet regularly to
review job descriptions, to ensure they are inclusive and not creating
any barriers to members of the Employment Equity target groups.

New Sherwood Park
Maintenance Facility
In October 2013, Seaboard Liquid Carriers took over the Sherwood Park
maintenance facility from an outside contractor. We were pleased to
welcome a number of new members to our team earlier in the year to
aid our Western Group in the management of this shop. As we continue
to expand, you will also notice a fresh new look for our Wiebe fleet,
transitioning our tractors from a navy blue to a crisp white. We would
like to thank the maintenance team for their countless hours of hard
work and dedication to ensure we were successful in the development
and growth of this endeavor.
