FON President’s Greeting—Cris Finn Happy New Year to all. Closing the year out please look to the article about our outstanding Holiday Celebration with Kelley Johnson, Miss Colorado. We all had a great time, excellent food, outstanding silent auction, and wonderful conversations. We missed those of you unable to attend. We respectfully paused in our celebration to remember those lost this past year. Several scholarships are being offered this year in their memory. The annual meeting is just around the corner (March 11). Be looking for your invitation. Also, coming up quickly is the Spring Awards Luncheon April 16. Please plan to join us as we celebrate our awardees and schools. As a volunteer organization, FON is totally dependent on its members to do the work of the organization. This includes fundraising activities in addition to soliciting and selecting well qualified candidates as scholarship recipients. I would urge you to consider volunteering to assist with these activities, if you are not already doing so. If you are not able to participate in activities, your support through donations for scholarship awards is always needed. Only when all members assist with the work of FON can we truly meet our full potential. Respectfully, Cris Finn

FON Holiday Party Members of Friends of Nursing and their friends celebrated the season December 4th at a Holiday Event at Cherry Creek’s JW Marriott. Highlight of the evening was the address by Kelley Johnson, Miss Colorado 2015. The unusual monologue that cinched Kelley’s win was original material detailing her experience as a nurse. She had entered the competition in an effort to win scholarship money to help her complete her nursing degree. As Miss Colorado she entered the Miss America competition and placed third, winning a $20,000 scholarship prize. Seven topics of importance to nurses received comment from Miss Colorado: Yes, we do wear stethoscopes because we use them: We never forget our patients: We shed plenty of tears: We’re working even when we’re off the clock: We’ve seen it all (and we’re not judging): We wish we could do more for you: We love what we do. All FON special events are fund raisers for nursing scholarships awarded to students at nine Colorado schools and colleges of nursing. Kelley Johnson Miss Colorado 2015

Lola McDonald is New FON Financial Manager Lola McDonald, the newly appointed financial manager for FON, brings excellent experience and skill to this position. She started her career in the financial services industry in 1969 in Houston, Texas where she began working for Rauscher Pierce. After moving to Parker, CO in l979, she became a stock broker for Merrill Lynch and later for E. F Hutton. She joined A.G. Edwards in l990 where she continued working as a financial advisor until the firm was purchased in 2008 by Wells Fargo. During her time at A.G. Edwards, Lola was interviewed by FON Board members who were seeking a new financial advisor for FON investment accounts. Her professional relationship with FON began in 2004. After the Wells Fargo purchase, Lola moved to Stifel Nicolaus in 2009. She and her younger partner, Holly Baroway were successful in transferring their clients, including FON, to Stifel. Lola retired from Stifel in 2010 while her former associates are continuing to advise and care for clients, including FON. Lola tells us she is honored to become an official member of FON and looks forward to helping with financial and investment matters. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
