From the Pastor
I am very pleased to announce that this year’s Christifideles Award will be
presented to Jim and Pat Noble by Francis Cardinal George in Holy Name
Cathedral on Sunday, November 3rd . The award was named after the Apostolic
Exhortation of Pope John Paul II whose English title is On the Vocation and
Mission of the Lay Faithful. It is bestowed on an individual or individuals who
have demonstrated by participation in parish life, the personal and ministerial
renewal set forth by the Apostolic Exhortation, Christifideles Laici, calling the laity
to the vocation of responsibility for the Church’s life springing from the gift and
mission of their baptism. Only one award is given per parish. Last year the award was given to Ed and
Mary Morley and in 2011 to Patricia Steiner.
Each pastor in the Archdiocese is asked to consider the main themes of the Apostolic Exhortation
and, in light of that reflection, nominate a person or persons whose participation in the life of the parish
most reflects those themes. The criteria for the award are:
1. The individual or individuals are to be practicing Catholics who manifest an
understanding of the teachings of the Church and have been graced with a life formed in
the Catholic Spiritual Tradition.
2. The individual or individuals have used their talents to deepen the life of the Church in
the parish or has served the ministry of the parish in an extraordinary way.
3. The nomination for the award has been advanced by the pastor of the parish in
consultation with the Parish Pastoral Council.
4. The appropriate dean and Vicar approve the nomination.
The form which I must submit to the Cardinal’s Office has only a very few lines in which to
summarize the reasons for the nomination. On this year’s form I wrote, “In this Year of Strong Catholic
Parents, Jim and Pat Noble stand out as exemplary Catholic parents. Jim and Pat are, first of all,
committed members of the lay faithful of Queen of All Saints Basilica. They are enthusiastic participants
in all aspects of the life of the Basilica. They are both involved with our Parish Special Religious
Education Program for developmentally disabled children and serve as leaders in our Parish Youth
Programs. Along with their son, Tim, a proud student at St. Patrick High School, Jim and Pat are
catechists in our Children’s Liturgy of the Word on Sunday mornings. Jim and Tim are faithful ministers
of hospitality at our 11 AM Sunday Mass. In addition, all three are frequent volunteers at just about all
the social gatherings which bring the people of this wonderful parish together. Especially during this year
dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of strong Catholic Parents, we are very proud to honor
James and Patricia Noble as this year’s recipients of the Christifideles Award.”
When the Office of the Archbishop notified Jim and Pat that they were this year’s recipients of
this prestigious award, they were very surprised to learn of their selection. Like all those who have
previously received this honor, they did not think they deserved such an award because they love Queen
of All Saints Parish so much they can not conceive of being parishioners in any other way. But they do
deserve it – and richly so. God bless them.

For the past three years, the parents of all
students preparing for 1st Eucharist have
gathered at a fellow parent’s home for a
cocktail party. This year, Mrs. Laura Herbert
opened her home to the parents of both
school and RE parents to begin building
relationships around their families’ milestone
in faith. We are very grateful to the Herberts
and to all those who participated in the
camaraderie.

Marriage Renewal Program
All couples of QAS are Welcome to join us!! We are full steam ahead on the QAS
Marriage Renewal program to give couples a spiritual workout to strengthen their marriage!
When? “Kick-off day” is Sunday, October 27th immediately following the 12:30 pm Mass (FYI – there is no
Bears football game that day!!- you can still join if you can’t attend the Kick off day.)
Where? 2nd floor of the Benedict Center – enter in rear.
What’s a Spiritual Workout? A series of lessons and exercises, rooted in faith, that invite us to daily practice
the internal “core muscles” of our souls.
Why are we doing this? To strengthen our souls for a lifelong marriage in a world that seems to be concerned
only with the externals of marriage and to renew our relationships as our vocation in marriage.
What equipment will you need? Email your interest and order a book at marriagerenewal@qasparish.org
(cost is $15/book)
Who is my personal trainer? Jesus Christ, meet with him for coaching each day.
Do I need to make an appointment with Him? No, Jesus is there waiting for you all the time. Whenever
you and your spouse get together for these exercises, He promises to be there with you.
Time required? After Kick-off day each couple participates in their own “date-night” choosing the best time
to get together to have their workout. Every 4 weeks we will meet as a group to solidify what we are learning
and socialize.
Cost? Priceless!!

All Souls Memorial Liturgy
Saturday, November 2, 2013
5:00 pm
On “All Souls Day”, the Church commemorates and intercedes for those
who have died. We invite the entire parish to remember our dearly departed,
especially those who have died in the past year.
Your loved ones who have been buried from Queen of All Saints Basilica
since last November (2012), are listed in the Parish Book. Their families,
as well as those from the community who have attended our Bereavement
Support Groups, will receive an invitation.
During the Mass, your loved one’s names will be read aloud and candles lit in their memory. After the
Mass, you and your guests are invited to a reception in the Rectory. Refreshments will be served. We
look forward to sharing this special time with you and your guests.
Many parishioners have close family members who were buried from another parish. These persons
are unknown to us. If you would like the name of an immediate relative to be acknowledged at this
November 2nd liturgy, please complete the form below and return it to the rectory by Monday,
